Caught Covid outside? :(

My husband has been working from home for months.
We don’t go to a supermarket we have food delivered and we always wipe it down.

Since lockdown began the only places we have been is for a walk.

I take my DS for a walk to our local park most days. (Only a baby so we don’t use the play area)

On Tuesday I met up with a friend and we went for a walk around a local lake.
It was quite busy but I never had close contact with anyone.
A few runners did run past quite close though.

Me and my friend distanced the whole time.

Before our walk we visited the cafe for a takeaway coffee. It’s all done outside so we didn’t have to go in.

I did drink from a disposable coffee cup but sanitised my hands when I’d finished, washed hands when I got home.

This morning I’ve got a sore throat and a tickly cough. 😖
I’ve ordered a test.

It sounds very unlikely it's actually Covid.

I hope not, anyway. Fingers crossed for you

Whoooootaminute · 21/11/2020 10:18

Mayve just a sore throat? A general winter bug.

How is your friend?

dementedpixie · 21/11/2020 10:19

So you don't actually know if you have covid? It could be many other viruses
Misleading thread title

Sorry I wasn’t trying to be misleading.

I have a sore throat and a cough. So no, I don’t know for certain it’s Covid but since I have a symptom I can’t be certain it’s not.

Very strange title. You haven’t caught Covid.

User158340 · 21/11/2020 10:23

It's unlikely to be Covid, although it could be.

When you're cooped up for months it lowers your immune system for when you do meet up with people. Especially during Winter when respiratory viruses are par for the course.

hennersley · 21/11/2020 10:23

Hopefully it's not covid but even if it is a "general winter bug" then you've still somehow managed to catch that so I guess you could've caught covid

Branleuse · 21/11/2020 10:23

you have a sort throat. You are unlikely to have caught covid outside with all the precautions you are taking

WhoopsSomethingWentWrong · 21/11/2020 10:24

It’s unlikely to be Covid.
All the normal winter bugs are still doing the rounds.

Hayeahnobut · 21/11/2020 10:26

It's not a misleading title as you clearly asked a question.

I hope you're feeling better soon, whether it's covid or not.

Maybe just a cold. Especially if you are walking around lakes. It's not exactly warm at the moment. Fingers crossed its not covid Flowers

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 21/11/2020 10:29

There are so many ways in the the little you've described, that you could have caught Covid.

It's much more likely to be a cold though.

Take care
Let us know how you go.

This is true, but if she's taking all the precautions to avoid Covid, which is very contagious, how would she catch another virus?
MargotLovedTom1 · 21/11/2020 10:29

Alternative title: 'Caught a cold outside?'

DobbyTheHouseElk · 21/11/2020 10:30

My guess is the takeaway cup.

DownWhichOfLate · 21/11/2020 10:31

It’ll be those pesky runners! Hmm

ssd · 21/11/2020 10:31

Very misleading thread title. I'd ask mn to change it.

MonicaGellerBing · 21/11/2020 10:32

🙄

midgebabe · 21/11/2020 10:32

I think I read somewhere that most colds are more contagious than covid

tenlittlecygnets · 21/11/2020 10:32

A sore throat isn't a Covid symptom. Nor is a tickly cough.

PinkFondantFancy · 21/11/2020 10:33

Your immune system hasn't been challenged for months. You've caught a cold most likely.

Interestingly though the only person I know that has caught covid is someone who's been cooped up at home the whole time and religiously bleach wiping everything that comes in.

DangerMouse17 · 21/11/2020 10:33

If you've been hiding away and cleaning everything that comes into the home, then I expect your immune system hasn't been asked of much over lockdown, so as soon as you come into contact with any germ you may get ill with a bug or usual winter cold etc.

Threelittlegins · 21/11/2020 10:34

@DobbyTheHouseElk

My guess is the takeaway cup.
@DobbyTheHouseElk

I’ve been reading up on this though and I read that the person would’ve had to directly cough or sneeze onto the small part of the cup I put my mouth over and it would’ve have to be a significant viral load to infect me.

I could see the server and she was wearing a mask and gloves.
