My husband and me have both come down with a cough. And hes got a bit of a temperature so we've arranged to get two tests done tomorrow.. the problem is we have a 3 month old baby and we are running very low on formula. I got paid today so the plan was to nip to asda or tesco like we usually do on payday and top up. Obviously we may not have covid but we are trying to follow the guidance. We have no immediate family in the area and no friends who drive or live this way. No delivery slots at any of the supermarkets. Looked on deliveroo and ubereats and for starters the delivery fee is at least 4 pound, I know its not a lot but when your husband is furloughed again and im on maternity every penny counts but also the milk is an extra four pound. Its 8 pound for cow and gate in the supermarket, 12 pound on the deliveroo supermarkets. Im not here to complain and im not here to start a debate. I just dont know what to do. Me and my husband have food in. But my little girl has hardly any. Please don't slate me for running low on milk. Were leaving payday to payday as it is.

I honestly can't believe some people think the op should have just gone without milk for her baby. Not every area has people that would be willing to help others out at the drop of a hat. The op is sick with a baby and has had an unexpected drop in income. I imagine she is stressed enough without people telling her shes killing people or that she should have predicted all this months ago and stocked up etc.

Jrobhatch29 · 14/11/2020 18:13

I cant believe the responses either. I have a 6 month old and the stress of a screaming, hungry baby would be awful for the baby and the OP. Babies won't just wait to be fed until somebody has some free time to help. I would have done the same thing OP

DishRanAwayWithTheSpoon · 14/11/2020 18:13

The store workers? Anyone who came into the store after OP? Op had no idea that the store was going to be empty, could easily have been someone there. Someone could die, or end up in hospital or end up with longterm health problems.

Im not a rabid covid we must all hide for the next year people. But if you have covid symptoms its really not fair to go out and potentially spread it. Its reasonably likely that with a cough and a temperature you have covid, test or not, and so Op knew full well going out she risks giving someone covid who is at risk.

Its not 'not ideal' its completely irresponsible. Its done now but i dont want to send the message to others that this okay in the future. You left it till 8 oclock at night to ask for help, this left you with no option. What were you doing in the hours leading up to this? What was your DH doing?

grassisjeweled · 14/11/2020 18:15

Seriously, how as a society did we become so indesicive?

Go and get your baby formula ffs

blvdbrokendreams · 14/11/2020 18:18

DishRanAwayWithTheSpoon the day just got away from us.
We always go shopping in the evening. Its done. I cant change it. Im sorry but I dont need slating.

@WoodYewBee

if you are struggling to this point why did you take on a dog to add to the expense?
Presumably they got the dog before furlough / mat leave. Stop judging.
Omeara · 14/11/2020 18:22

I’m sure someone from the shop would have dropped it on your doorstep if you really live 10 seconds away.

I totally understand you couldn’t let your baby starve but you really didn’t do much to come up with an alternative solution.

WoodYewBee · 14/11/2020 18:23

@TrustTheGeneGenie i can judge if i like.....you can't tell me what to do. begging posts come in all disguises, especially this time of year

but i won't presume they did get the dog before maternity/furlough.

blvdbrokendreams · 14/11/2020 18:24

@Omeara we rang, she said no.

@blvdbrokendreams you did the only thing you could although surprised no one has suggested you started lactating again Wink

blvdbrokendreams · 14/11/2020 18:28

@WoodYewBee just out of curiosity what am I actually begging for? You know I didn't come on here to debate or justify myself but here goes. The dog. My dog died in June this year of a tumour. My inlaws moved house in June also 100 miles away. They had a dog. He knew us. Hes 16 years old. They got a smaller house. The move probably would have killed him. My husband was working at this point. His financial needs are minimal. One bag of food at 4 pound 45 every 3 weeks if you must know.

How is op begging??

DishRanAwayWithTheSpoon · 14/11/2020 18:31

The day got away with both of you isolating at home when your baby was about to run out of food?

Nothowiexpected · 14/11/2020 18:32

DishRanAwayWithTheSpoon

Oh fgs, you do know that you need to be close to someone testing positive for around 15 mins to risk passing on Covid? The OP ran in, got milk, paid at self serve till and scooted home again, with a mask on and I'm sure she used hand sanitizer etc. I doubt very much she left a wake of Covid victims behind her.

OP hope you're both ok and test negative xx

SingANewSongChickenTikka · 14/11/2020 18:34

I honestly can't believe some people think the op should have just gone without milk for her baby.

No one, not one single post, has said that the baby should have gone without milk. Many are saying that there could’ve been other avenues to explore, calling the shop in advance, council COVID support lines etc. Not saying it would’ve been easy, and maybe OP going was the only option, but no one has said a starving baby was the solution here.

blvdbrokendreams · 14/11/2020 18:34

@DishRanAwayWithTheSpoon yeah it did. My husband was job hunting all day. I had a telephone call with the hv, the gp and a few other personal appointments. And you know general baby and housework stuff. We always go shopping at 7 to 8 ish pm. Only at 7 ish did I notice my husband looked a bit flushed and I realised I'd been coughing on and off. Never thought I'd be justifying my daily life but hey

Sohardtochooseausername · 14/11/2020 18:39

OP I don’t blame you at all. If the government wants people to stay at home there should be more help for people who have to self isolate. In the Far East where covid is well under control they get supplies for people. There’s no support here.

DishRanAwayWithTheSpoon · 14/11/2020 18:39

@Nothowiexpected no you dont.

Yes transmission most likely occurs when theres prolonged close contact, but theres still a risk for shorter periods. The virus doesnt go 'oh look 15 minutes up better jump ship now'. There is also potential for surface transmission and droplet transmission where droplets remain in the air for a period of time.

I work in a hospital and I was thinking where all these elderly people are catching the virus, because surely they arent going many places or getting too close to others. But now I can see where its coming from.

BellatrixLestat · 14/11/2020 18:42

OP stop defending yourself. You don't need to. Some serious nastiness in this thread!

I'd have done the same.

Hope you feel better soon Thanks

WoodYewBee · 14/11/2020 18:42

über and delivery were an option

but no....op went on and on about costs.....hence this potentially being a begging thread because most people did not think going out to a shop with symptoms was the right thing to do!!

Bollss · 14/11/2020 18:45

Or ops biggest concern is not paying literally double for milk when they're struggling. A lot of people have clearly never been in this position and obviously can't imagine it.

A lot catch it in hospitals, not their corner shops.

blvdbrokendreams · 14/11/2020 18:47

@WoodYewBee I put the costs in to give full information. I didnt ask anyone to pay it. Seriously twisting my post. And actually no a lot of people agreed with me. I cant change what's done. As a previous poster said there's no support unless you have the funds for these deliveries. We don't. I asked Facebook for help. Nobody was free till today as I've said numerous times. My neighbours never in. I have nobody living around here. I didnt Bob to the shop for a bar of chocolate and a bottle of pop.

UniversalHadIt · 14/11/2020 18:48

Fuuuuuuuuuucking hell.

Some of you lot are lunatics.

We know that a high percentage of people with covid are asymptomatic but still contagious. They will never be tested, they will go to shops. We can assume on this basis that store workers will be exposed to people carrying the virus probably on a fairly regular basis.

One masked, swift, distanced, sanitised visit will not do any more harm than those people do- the OP was probably far more cautious to be honest, so probably less of a risk.

The OP hasn’t killed anyone by going to get milk for her baby, who would have otherwise possibly gone hungry overnight.

blvdbrokendreams · 14/11/2020 18:49

UniversalHadIt thank you.
