Worried that the military and NHS are on standby to deliver vaccines

Just heard this on the BBC news at 6.Does this mean the military will be injecting people? Will it be mandatory for certain groups? This is rather worrying.

Ooh goody another vaccine panic thread, military, government control... I don't think we've had one in a couple of days now.

No wonder the people who post these are in such a state, they can't even advanced search Mumsnet for the same topics let alone look at the published read watch/guidance.

Yup op vaccines will definitely be mandatory. The army are actually robots. In fact we're all robots, there's only you left.

Oly4 · 10/11/2020 19:51

Matt Hancock said today it’s not mandatory.
The military are awesome at helping organising large scale events and moving shit loads of vaccines! That’s all.
Vaccines have boosters in them to boost immunity - the protection they provide is expected to be much better then naturally immunity after a bout of Covid
Vaccines are the way out of the pandemic

tempester28 · 10/11/2020 19:51

Well people have been doing their own Covid tests so be grateful you won't be sent to a car park and told to inject yourself! (Hopefully)

Gronky · 10/11/2020 19:51
@SimonJT which but did I misunderstand?
The link you mentioned explains how mRNA works. It's how the DNA issues commands to the rest of the cell to build proteins. Imagine taking a photocopy from a bound book of IKEA instructions, dropping it from a window and your friends on the road using those instructions to assemble a table. They could also receive instructions from other sources to, for example, make a different table but they can't interfere with your bound book of instructions without some additional way to get the copy up to you and, without your help or knowledge, add a page to your book. This ability does exist but it's rare (HIV is an example of a virus that can edit DNA). mRNA alone isn't going to edit your DNA.

FourTeaFallOut · 10/11/2020 19:51

I'm so pleased that the army will be doing the logistics for this. It's brilliant that it'll be in the safe hands of someone competent and not another pair of grabby hands waiting in line for another random act of nepotism.

Suzi888 · 10/11/2020 19:51

It’s not like we are going to be offered it for months, possibly years in any case.
Like the flu vaccine, you’ll probably need to keep on having it year after year.

AcornAutumn · 10/11/2020 19:51

OP I know the word of government means nothing

But in case it reassures you

Fed up of anti vaxxers. No wonder diseases spread.

I have a friend who has become an anti vaxxer in recent years. Yet she takes coke, mdma and several other drugs. She doesn't know whats in them?!

The army will be using dart guns (like those used to tranquilise wild animals) to randomly roam the streets and fire at passers by in order to vaccinate everyone!
HappyDays10101 · 10/11/2020 19:54

Yeah, they're going to be sticking needles in machine guns and firing them at people

This was the first proper laugh I’ve had on this site for ages!

feelingverylazytoday · 10/11/2020 19:55

Even junkies manage to inject themselves. It's not hard
I want Keith Richards to do mine.

You start by claiming it's the government you don't trust but then you start claiming that it's actually the vaccine itself you don't trust. Why don't you just admit you are an anti vaxxer instead of peddling all this fake "I'm worried about authoritarianism" etc.
Your knowledge of science is wrong btw...

@BurningRose

Ps I had a positive covid test a few months ago so I won't need a vaccine. I now have natural immunity.

I worry about creeping authoritarianism though.

We don't know how long immunity lasts. May only be months , you could quite easily get reinfected.

tilder · 10/11/2020 19:58

How many billion people on the planet? Am sure at least one will exhibit an unintended reaction to the vaccine. No medicine is wholly without side effects.

Then again. Its been tested, presumably rolled out in millions of doses. Will probably be the most studied vaccine in history.

Plus, you know, global pandemic.

Op, if you were genuinely concerned about creeping authoritarianism, or how the temporary powers will be removed in full, I would have sympathy.

The drip drip feed of anti vax? Not so much.

SSHHHH DON'T TELL HER

00100001 · 10/11/2020 19:58

OP... You're clearly an anti-vaxxer.

I bet you take paracetamol... despite the side affects....

I bet you drive on the road... Despite people dying every day...

I guess the difference is a vaccine is unlikely to enable fun 😂

I’ve had to inject myself before, it’s fine, unless you ha e needle phobia of course.

That said, the nurse who did my pneumonia jab was so skilled I didn’t feel a thing, almost.

lovelemoncurd · 10/11/2020 19:59

Medics and nurses work in the army you know that right?

pointythings · 10/11/2020 19:59

Well, I have a bit of a sore arm from my flu jab yesterday. Worse than last year's flu jab. So yeah, side effects...

SadSack39 · 10/11/2020 20:00

@StylishMummy

No vaccine in the U.K. has ever been mandatory, the army are helping to deliver the vaccine due to the sheer size of the infrastructure needed.

You may want to seek help for your anxiety OP

Gosh this is so patronising and rude
