Worried that the military and NHS are on standby to deliver vaccines

Just heard this on the BBC news at 6.Does this mean the military will be injecting people? Will it be mandatory for certain groups? This is rather worrying.

OP posts:
TheRealJeanLouise · 10/11/2020 19:27

Rna vaccines contain genetic instructions so they do interface with DNA

Ugh 🤦‍♀️

The thing is, I would ordinarily say, OP get researching, find out how all this works and it’ll alleviate your fears but there’s no way you can be trusted to do that sensibly and you’ll come back with ReSeArCh from some blogger wearing a tin hat living in a bunker and completely ignoring the actual medical peer reviewed studies and solid facts.

Posturesorposes · 10/11/2020 19:27

The OP’s posts make me really want to ask about their qualifications. Particularly the one along the lines of how do you think vaccines work....

ZolaGrey · 10/11/2020 19:27

@BurningRose

My comment is not as odd as it seems. Some legislation was passed recently allowing non medical professionals to administer vaccines of needed.
Why is that an issue? I imagine they'd be trained first, they won't just be hurling it at you from a distance.
TicTacTwo · 10/11/2020 19:28

Unfortunately there's no test for T-cell immunity so you don't really know your immunity status long term.

Gancanny · 10/11/2020 19:28

just because people have some questions and concerns doesn't make them anti vax

It does when they're waffling on about vaccines altering your DNA, authoritarianism, and spreading generalised fear.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 10/11/2020 19:28

It's alright, everyone, let's leave OP to sit back and dream of the good old days of smallpox, TB and all the other infectious diseases that have been eradicated in our FIRST WORLD country by science. Actually, I believe TB is on the rise again, so there is some hope for your cunning plan to have us all vaccine-free, OP.

BrieAndChilli · 10/11/2020 19:29

@BurningRose

Ps I had a positive covid test a few months ago so I won't need a vaccine. I now have natural immunity.

I worry about creeping authoritarianism though.

You do realise that long lasting immunity hasn’t been proven and in fact all indications show that immunity only lasts a few months?
LagunaBubbles · 10/11/2020 19:31

I have a feeling that vaccines will be made compulsory for travel and jobs

Hope so!

mpsw · 10/11/2020 19:31

It would be really easy to teach the military how to vaccinate (seriously not difficult) and have one doctor per so many vaccinators present in case of vasovagal or other reactions

Tha's pretty much the plan.

If short of HCPs, this might be a role for the recently retired who volunteered to assist.

ZolaGrey · 10/11/2020 19:31

So are you anti non medical personnel delivering vaccines or are you anti-vaccine full stop? Because we're probably wasting our time if you're the latter.

JaJaDingDong · 10/11/2020 19:31

We don't yet know how long post Covid immunity lasts. You might not be immune by the time the vaccine is actually available.

I worry about creeping authoritarianism though.
What? Hmm

DryRoastPeanut · 10/11/2020 19:32

You’re an anti vaxer trying to foster civil unrest! Then to top it off, you’re the one being rude to people.

I actually thought @StylishMummy was very diplomatic.

You’re not being helpful op. Remember, if you’re not part of the solution, you’re part of the problem.

SimonJT · 10/11/2020 19:32
For those saying it doesn't interface with DNA.

You have severely misunderstood that link.

3littlewords · 10/11/2020 19:33

OP i heard that 2 army men will come to your house unannounced and drag each individual out into the street by the feet, 1 guy will administer the vaccine whilst the other holds a machine gun over your head ready to blast in case you refuse 😉

dementedma · 10/11/2020 19:33

All those relying on "the military" to come to the rescue - two words. Defence Cuts.
The entire British army couldn't fill Old Trafford.
The majority will still need to be held in Defence readiness and arent available for MACA. ( Military Aid to Civilian Authorities).
Large chunks are still overseas in various places. You need to manage expectations. With CDS( Chief of Defence Staff) General Sir Nick Carter speaking at the weekend about raised terror alerts and increased risks of Cyber attacks, the military is much more thinly spread than many people realise.

Gancanny · 10/11/2020 19:33

Nowhere in the link does it say that RNA vaccines will cause your DNA to mutate.

BurningRose · 10/11/2020 19:34

@SimonJT which but did I misunderstand?

OP posts:
TheRealJeanLouise · 10/11/2020 19:34

On a more serious note I’m getting fair sick of all these posts moaning about the army being involved in the logistics of the Covid crisis.

Ditto. When something awful happens in a country elsewhere what do we see on the news? We see the armed forces helping with aid, dealing with logistics, offering medical expertise. Something awful is happening here, right now, of course it’s absolutely right that the army are involved in the recovery process.

SimonJT · 10/11/2020 19:35
@SimonJT which but did I misunderstand?
The bit where you think the RNA causes our DNA to mutate/becomes part of our DNA.

Sidge · 10/11/2020 19:36

Giving injections is a piece of cake.

It’s managing things when they go tits up which is the tricky bit. I’m sure they’ll have some medics on hand, I mean the military does have medical personnel... you do know you can’t call 999 when away at sea or in the middle of the Afghan desert?!

The vaccine won’t be mandatory, the military aren’t there to enforce compliance. And as @Mintychoc1 says, those of us working in primary care don’t have the capacity to deliver the vaccination programme currently, nor the facilities to store it. Mind you, not that we know anything about it at the moment, I laugh when I see on the news that a vaccine programme is imminent. News to us in primary care!

catsrus · 10/11/2020 19:36

I've taught some of our military logistics people - they are awesome. They are used to dealing with delivering an outcome in complex situations, whether that is delivering tanks to war zones or vaccines to the home counties. Some of the real-life examples they used in their assignments were fascinating.

The fact that the military are involved gives me confidence in the process to be honest.

MitziK · 10/11/2020 19:37

@BurningRose

But without the, you know, risk of choking to death, blood clots or lung fibrosis.

But with, you know, added risks of vaccine injury and side effects or messing with your dna.

My DNA is perfectly fine, thanks all the same. Well, apart from the bits that fucked up and made my immune system somewhat overexcitable from long before I had any vaccinations. My father's to blame for that, though, not that I could tell him so, as he dropped dead due to lack of treatment (as it hadn't been invented yet). Side effects - well, I get those from medications a lot. Still better than having the conditions that the medications are prescribed for, what with them having been fatal for my father due to them not having been discovered at the point at which he keeled over.

If you're an anti vaxxer, just bloody say it, don't go wittering on about military states and suchlike.

MitziK · 10/11/2020 19:37

The 'Science' bit.

All of it.

RosesandPumpkins · 10/11/2020 19:38

It’s not hard to be trained to give an injection. I had to do it as a teacher for a child. I have also had to inject myself after an op.
With a bit of training anyone can do it.
