Nor any of the other shops unfairly dodging the lockdown closure by claiming they are essential (someone on another thread's, local shoe shop, local branch of Next) etc.

It's bloody ridiculous. The more we are out and about, the more this virus has a chance to keep spreading. Don't click and collect from your local business, place orders online from them or phone up and arrange delivery.

Just stop f**king going out. If you don't HAVE to go out for work, essential shopping - ie food or medicine, just stay at home.

If you don't, don't moan when bloody Boris is on our screens on 2nd December saying the lockdown is extended.

I will do what I wish, within the confines of the law, and following all applicable guidelines. That includes going to any shop operating legally, if I so choose to do so.

Hoppinggreen · 05/11/2020 09:14

I am not condemning anyone for legally visiting a shop that is allowed to be open BUT I do question the decision about what is essential.
So I can’t buy lost/damaged/outgrown school uniform but plants are ok?
Makes no sense to me

cologne4711 · 05/11/2020 09:16

If a shop is open legally, you can visit it. I do really wonder how it's exciting for the pp's 3 year old and newborn though...

dingit · 05/11/2020 09:17

@NoParticularPattern

No one is making you go to the range. If you think it’s the source of all infections then feel free not to go. Personally I’ll be off to Homebase this weekend for compost. Otherwise the £80 of bulbs I have to plant (which I ordered 6 weeks before anyone even suggested a lockdown never mind announced one) will be wasted. So no, perhaps it’s not essential, but £80 is a lot of money to throw away just because someone on MN thinks I should. Oh and I need wallpaper paste. Look at me and all my unnecessary trips!
If you watched gardeners world, monty said bulbs don't need new compost, any old mud will do. I think it's because the energy is stored in the bulb. You just need to ensure good drainage. I shall be planting at the weekend Smile

@PurpleDaisies

They will only stop when they lose a loved one to the virus.

People have lost loved ones to covid. I have and it was terribly sad. That doesn’t mean going to the Range suddenly becomes really high risk. It isn’t.

Do people who lose loved one in car crashes stop driving or ever getting in a car again?
Doingitaloneandproud · 05/11/2020 09:18

I will go out thank you, completely respect your decision to stay away, as it is your choice. This virus is not going to magically disappear, it's a virus. At some point we have to learn to live with it, if there is no vaccine available yet. The last lockdown should have shown the virus will come back

OF COURSE IT WILL COME BACK why can't any of you seem to understand that we might have to do this a few times before a vaccine is found? Fucking hell.

Juststopswimming · 05/11/2020 09:20

The Range is open!? Great news! Thanks for the tip off OP!

PurpleDaisies · 05/11/2020 09:20

But you do you lot, keep popping out for Christmas decorations and whatever you like and keep that R rate up so we can lock down a bit longer.

People keep stating this as if it is a fact.

Noideawottodo · 05/11/2020 09:20

But you do you lot, keep popping out for Christmas decorations and whatever you like and keep that R rate up so we can lock down a bit longer. Twats

I'd say the twats are those that genuinely believe cv is spread easily in shops.

Calmandmeasured1 · 05/11/2020 09:20

@WindChimeTinkle

@Torri67 no-one cares what you think. I'm going to the garden centre today, just because I can😁
If you don't think anyone cares what Torri67 thinks, why would you post and assume anyone is interested in what you are doing today?

Such unnecessary unpleasantness on this thread.

Eckhart · 05/11/2020 09:21

You sound very frustrated, OP. I'd suggest you look into anger management, given that your frustration won't make a blind bit of difference to anyone.

Others are managing to be frustrated and just get on with it, or doing something they think will change the situation. Blaring 'FUKETY FUk FU*K' on Mumsnet in neither use nor ornament.

peachescariad · 05/11/2020 09:23

@everybodysang

Wow. Mumsnet's always been full of cunts (it's one of the reasons I've always rather liked it!) but it's a bit much these days. But you do you lot, keep popping out for Christmas decorations and whatever you like and keep that R rate up so we can lock down a bit longer. Twats.
Yep will do.....the R rate is currently dropping btw...
RonaLisa · 05/11/2020 09:24

I agree with so many of the posts here that I can't even single one specifically to agree with.

Suffice it to say that none of them is by the OP.

BTW I may be mistaken, but I think Savers is open, too. Like The Range, best enjoyed with a large dose of irony, but a bloody sight better than nothing.

Toothsil · 05/11/2020 09:27

I'm in the minority but I'm with you OP. It's 4 weeks. And there's a difference between going in quickly for some shower gel/washing powder/tampons etc to going in and spending ages in the shop browsing.

The point of this lockdown is to slow the spread. We should be able to manage 4 weeks without having to go for a rake around a shop for non essentials. We can still get out for walks, fresh air and exercise is also good for the mental health for those needing to get out of the house/have a change of scenery.

DH lost a friend to covid, it's given us quite a scare and we really want to do all we can to stay safe, keep others safe and help prevent the spread during this lockdown.

Ihaveyourback · 05/11/2020 09:27

Er op I don't think I have seen the roads as busy as they were today!
Lockdown, what lockdown?
Everyone is out carrying on as normal as far as I can see, minus restaurants/bars which is just as it should be if we have any hope of not completely ruining the economy permanently. Every functioning person of average intelligence seems to understands that, so we will be continuing to work/shop and live op.

I for one will be supporting ALL of our local shops and businesses over the 'lockdown (very) lite' and won't be shut away for months like the last time.

So you do you.

Ihaveyourback · 05/11/2020 09:29

And may I congratulate you on your efforts to advertise for the Range, and the fact they are open! Grin I am sure they are grateful to you!

Ori3 · 05/11/2020 09:30

@RaspberryCoulis

*So how does that square with a visit to ANY shop when:

  • You're supposed to wear a face covering unless exempt
  • You're not going to be within 2 metres of someone for 15 minutes*

Because people don't socially distance. You only have to go to any shop to see this in action, including the supermarket. People never stay 2 metres away from one another, even though they might try initially. And, if we all had the view of "oh sod it, I'm going to carry on BAU, go to unnecessary shops BAU, etc etc" then we'd all be crammed into the likes of "The Range," but thankfully, we're not.

Fairyliz · 05/11/2020 09:30

Anyone else thinking the Op works for The Range marketing department?

What a good idea, free advertising to MN population. Are you hoping it will be picked up by the National press? That must be a great saving on your advertising budget.

PurpleDaisies · 05/11/2020 09:31

SAGE looked at the risk of transmission through retail and what effect closing non essential retail would have. It is described as “very minimal”. The main positive is it means the message is simple for people.

assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/925856/S0770_NPIs_table__pivot_.pdf

Perhaps some people on the thread might want to think about that before accusing other posters of trying to kill us all and keep us locked down forever by going to buy some wallpaper.

FFS just because you CAN go to 'The Range' doesn't mean you should
ImMoana · 05/11/2020 09:32

Don’t blame the people going into them, blame the people who make the rules. If they weren’t open and allowed to be categorised as ‘essential’ people couldn’t visit them.

You are directing your anger at the wrong place.

They are in almost every shop I’ve been to. Any time anyone has been close it’s for a few seconds. That is not high risk behaviour.

justicedanceson · 05/11/2020 09:33

But if you order for delivery someone is still going from A to B mixing with others. It’s really makes no difference. Our local and independent shops won’t always have the ability to deliver.
The law is the law. What is allowed is allowed. I’m not a big believer in getting pharisaical and making rules to keep the rules to keep the rules. Fine, don’t purchase things yourself but no one else is bound by your personal views.
