Nor any of the other shops unfairly dodging the lockdown closure by claiming they are essential (someone on another thread's, local shoe shop, local branch of Next) etc.

It's bloody ridiculous. The more we are out and about, the more this virus has a chance to keep spreading. Don't click and collect from your local business, place orders online from them or phone up and arrange delivery.

Just stop f**king going out. If you don't HAVE to go out for work, essential shopping - ie food or medicine, just stay at home.

If you don't, don't moan when bloody Boris is on our screens on 2nd December saying the lockdown is extended.

@RockStarMartini

we all just need to do what we personally feel safe with and I'll certainly go to the shops that are open if I need something but not necessarily just for a browse.
That is precisely the reason they are open, in case people need something and not for browsing.

The bullying tone of the posts disagreeing with the OP really pisses me off though - I hate the MN way of posters ganging up trying to be clever and hilarious and chuckling about how 'this didn't go the way you expected did it OP'. It's childish and unpleasant - people are entitled to disagree but you can say so without sounding like a dick.
I totally agree with this.

I think people have no need to worry about the education system because, judging by a lot of responses on here, it has been fucked for a long time and no, the irony of my comment is not lost on me as I am totally serious.

WokesFromHome · 05/11/2020 09:34

There seems something odd about this 2nd wave. I have my feet in 2 camps. One in a northern town which apparently has the highest rate of Covid in the country and the second in London. During lockdown 1 I knew of lots of people, including DH, DC and I, who had Covid. One of our GP's died of it and 2 other elderlies were in hospital on oxygen. Then there was X, Y and Z person at work, school etc.

My network of family and friends is pretty big and I cannot name one person Know, or who they know who has it. It just doesn't feel the same this time.

Quaagars · 05/11/2020 09:34

Because people don't socially distance. You only have to go to any shop to see this in action, including the supermarket. People never stay 2 metres away from one another, even though they might try initially.

They do where I am (UK)
OK, you might get the occasional knob who's walking around all over the place, seemingly oblivious to the markers on the floor, but the vast majority I find are keeping their distance when I'm in shops.

annabel85 · 05/11/2020 09:35

I live on a moderately busy road. It's constantly busy full of cars all day long even in a tier 3 'lockdown' and still will be now. Where's everyone going? Rush hour and school time etc will be busy but it's all day long.

When we were actually in lockdown I could walk in the road it was that quiet. People just won't take it seriously while the schools and colleges stay open.

Suzi888 · 05/11/2020 09:35

You can only by essential items in the range anyway. At least that’s what happened in Wales....
I went and it was teeming with elderly people, some of them might not have long left.
Yes perhaps it is selfish and no they probably haven’t signed DNR requests.
If it was that crucial people didn’t go, BJ would shut the Range etc.

Lazypuppy · 05/11/2020 09:35

Thanks OP you've just reminded me i need to go to the range 👍🏻

If shops are open i will use them if i need to

PurpleDaisies · 05/11/2020 09:36

You can only by essential items in the range anyway.

Not in England. Shops allowed to stay open can sell whatever they want.

Completmentfille · 05/11/2020 09:36

What's pushing the R rate up is schools, particularly secondary schools and universities.

As long as they're open with no masks, social distancing or any PPE for teachers, you'll find this so called lockdown does very little good, whether you visit the Range or not.

Just to be clear I'm not saying schools should close (I have a child in school and work full time) but the above is something people seem massively reluctant to accept.

Tumbleweed101 · 05/11/2020 09:36

I’m going to stay away from town after today. Got my delivery shopping slots booked so no need to go in. I haven’t been going into town much anyway as dislike wearing masks with glasses.

My children are still at school and I work in a nursery so there is a risk of me becoming a carrier so better if I stay home outside of work anyway. I’m not particularly worried about the virus for myself but the implications of me catching it have always been high in that my workplace would have to shut and a knock on effect to both the business and the families whose children we care for.

BellaintheWychElm · 05/11/2020 09:37

Such unnecessary unpleasantness on this thread

Well I rather think the op set the tone...

Dinosauratemydaffodils · 05/11/2020 09:37

If a shop is open legally, you can visit it. I do really wonder how it's exciting for the pp's 3 year old and newborn though...

Anywhere with Christmas decorations is exciting for my 2 year old, especially if there is loads of lights.

TiersTiersTiers · 05/11/2020 09:40

It's not socially distanced shopping wearing a mask at the Range that is the problem @Torri67.

This is the problem and the reason why a second lock down is needed -

Well said Torri67,
Totally agree with you
However we are in the minority!!!

If I fancy going to The Range, then I will. HTH Smile

Legoandloldolls · 05/11/2020 09:43

What exactly is wrong with click and collect? Should I get my Tesco shopping posted via Hermes? I'm not using home deliveries as I'm being a saint so they are free for others who need them

Topseyt · 05/11/2020 09:43

@RaspberryCoulis

Oh goodie, the self-appointed, ultra-virtuous covid police are back. What have they been doing since May? Just sitting at home and salivating over the chances of a second wave and a PROPER lockdown?

So over all this nonsense. People going shopping is about as zero risk as you can get.

The Covid Police really did provide the greatest amusement of lockdown. Now they are back. Yippee!!

I'll have to go shopping. Popcorn to eat while watching them froth is an essential purchase, did you not know that?

In our village there are two small supermarkets that will be open as usual. One is the fuel station. The newsagent is open, as is the store that sells animal feed and medicines along with home and garden DIY stuff. The pharmacy is also open, as is the car repair place.

I am glad they are open and will not feel guilty about going to them if I want to.

OP, if you don't want to go to places like The Range then don't. You stay at home and froth about your neighbours coming and going too many times a day and for longer than an hour.

Wherearefoxssocks · 05/11/2020 09:43

I'll follow the rules. The ACTUAL rules. Not some MNetters trumped up version of the rules.

vodkaredbullgirl · 05/11/2020 09:45

It was open in the 1st lockdown and now in the second so called lockdown.

Popcornriver · 05/11/2020 09:45

Almost 500 deaths yesterday and some hospitals are worse off than they were in the peak yet the government has allowed a lockdown 'lite' instead of actually closing the country down. They should have paid more attention to the scientists in September.

This is nothing like a lockdown, I can't see how it will help enough. Do it or don't, this seems like a massive waste of time. It was a nightmare outside my child's school today because there's no crossing guard thanks to the lockdown. The roads are as full as normal. What is stopping people going to the Range going to do when most people are still out at work and all children at school?

Loveable1 · 05/11/2020 09:46

Oh cool hadn't thought about the Range for my shopping death march this weekend. I'll add it to the list.

wewereliars · 05/11/2020 09:50

We need a second lockdown because the first lockdown was at least 2 weeks too late. The point of the first lockdown was to give the country breathing space to develop effective track and trace before winter and to avoid a second wave. Track and trace is a mess because instead of using the NHS to run this the government gave the role to SERCO, headed by Dido Harding, a friend of Boris Johnson and with a solid record of failure. The government is responsible for the mess we are in , due to incompetence and cronyism, not people going to shops.
