Nor any of the other shops unfairly dodging the lockdown closure by claiming they are essential (someone on another thread's, local shoe shop, local branch of Next) etc.

It's bloody ridiculous. The more we are out and about, the more this virus has a chance to keep spreading. Don't click and collect from your local business, place orders online from them or phone up and arrange delivery.

Just stop f**king going out. If you don't HAVE to go out for work, essential shopping - ie food or medicine, just stay at home.

If you don't, don't moan when bloody Boris is on our screens on 2nd December saying the lockdown is extended.

I know a lot of people who have contracted COVID. All been contracted through direct contact at work, family or mixing in other peoples homes. I’ve not met one person who can categorically say they’ve caught it from the supermarket. You are scared and fed up, I get that. But stop judging everyone else.

FlouncerInDenial · 05/11/2020 08:20

What is this Range you all speak of? It sounds like a world of wonder!

Enoughnowstop · 05/11/2020 08:20

Well, I've just arrived at work. There was absolutely no difference in my commute this morning compared with any other morning. So that's as many people out and about as usual. How is the virus going to stop spreading if we don't stop contact with others?

randomer · 05/11/2020 08:20

How would you like it if you end up on a ventilator you Range shopping bauble hunters?

Noideawottodo · 05/11/2020 08:20

I live alone and barely left the house or saw anyone during the first lockdown and am now facing the prospect of the same, but some people want to go shopping, so there you go....

You can leave the house and meet a friend for a walk you know. Unless you are shielding in which case stop judging those who aren't.

Isn’t that because the schools are open?
WhoWants2Know · 05/11/2020 08:21

I haven't seen evidence that indicates retail is a high risk area for infections. Shops can limit the number of people inside at any one time, and people move through quickly with masks.

Restaurants and pubs are a different matter, as are schools. If lockdown is extended beyond 2nd of December, it will be because of schools and not The Range.

BINGO!!!!
RuleOfCat · 05/11/2020 08:21

Here in Germany we also went into a 'lockdown light' for the month - restaurants, museums, nail bars, gyms all closed. The difference is that shops are allowed to stay open, obviously with masks and limits on the numbers of customers in any shop. We've been like this since shops reopened in May and it works fine - no evidence that it passes on Covid at all. Masks are also now mandatory on the busiest shopping streets. Normal shopping is absolutely NOT a risk, as long as the necessary precautions are met (and here you're only medically exempt from masks with an official doctor's cert, so compliance is pretty high).

It's very overpriced - go to B & M instead.
loulouljh · 05/11/2020 08:21

The Government did it knowing the figures they were using to scare people like the OP were incorrect!! So go, don't go. It will make zero difference to the outcome of this!!!!!

If I work in a school with 1200 students I don't think I have a problem popping to the range on my way home. Grin Something to keep me sane after a very stressful and extremely COLD day at work!

Enoughnowstop · 05/11/2020 08:22

I left at 7:30. I don't think the average school run is taking place at that time but I could be wrong.

PurpleHoodie · 05/11/2020 08:22

(I do by the way. We are a higher earning household with cars ++ however we give a shit about other people who are not)

Applebloss0m · 05/11/2020 08:22

I would have probably been feeling the same in the first lock down. I didn’t go into a shop for months. But now all the Covid safe activities have been taken away (zoo/farms/outdoor playgroups) I will probably be heading to the shops for a ‘day out’. I have children at home and it was really hard work earlier this year. Even a little car journey breaks up our day. I’d rather do something outside and won’t socialise indoors (we haven’t done that at all the entire time). But I think shopping is very low risk

WhySoSensitive · 05/11/2020 08:23

I don’t understand post replies on posts like this.
This thread has been done to death recently and you either get a list of people agreeing we should be super strict and follow the rules... or people who have decided they’re gonna do what they want anyways 😂
Think it just depends on the day.

Is it worse than Dunelm?
1940s · 05/11/2020 08:23

@ivfbeenbusy

The chance of catching it in a shop.....very very low. Chance of economic destruction of the retail sector....very high 🤷‍♀️
This.

Bore off OP. Stay at home and use the mythical online delivery slots. I will be going out every day

middleager · 05/11/2020 08:23

Mine sells food, pet stuff, arts and craft, gardening, iron mongery type stuff, cooking appliances, outdoor camping type stuff, DIY, home furnishings, electrical.

The food is good value so price wise, provides people with essentials at an affordable price.

TicTacTwo · 05/11/2020 08:23

I think that we should be concerned about massive queues at shops that reopen on 2nd December eg Primark. (Remember what people were like when fast food reopened?)
Many people like to see clothes before they buy and it's a popular time of year to get new clothing. Ordering stuff online isn't risk free for others- they are still delivering, knocking on doors, packing orders and unpacking returns in famously overcrowded warehouses....

Orangeblossom7777 · 05/11/2020 08:24

Get a grip- maybe do something to help others such as go get shopping for an elderly or vulnerable neighbour if you want to feel like you are helping

Fluffymule · 05/11/2020 08:24

I think it's difficult when there are competing concerns. Yes of course the health risks from a rising Covid rate are serious, but so is the economic destruction we are seeing and the knock on risks that follow.

I've just seen this on the news - 3,500 jobs cut by Sainsburys/Argos. www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-54818644

Was it yesterday we had similar news from John Lewis, Clarks and Lloyds bank? And so many before that, and more to come.

We should follow the law, but people will, and should, decide themselves within those limitations where they go and what they will do.

DickAndSizzy · 05/11/2020 08:24

Surely Boris isn't going to decide whether or not to extend the lockdown based on how many people went The Range?

Surely, he's going to look at the infection rates?

Everyone needs to stay safe and do what they can to keep others around them safe. Most people could manage to do that in The Range, I reckon.

Big tip on how to do so: do not go around shouting "FFS you're all selfish!" The frothing, stress and expulsion of air required for such an outburst is more likey to spread disease.

Just stay nice and calm...
