Nor any of the other shops unfairly dodging the lockdown closure by claiming they are essential (someone on another thread's, local shoe shop, local branch of Next) etc.

It's bloody ridiculous. The more we are out and about, the more this virus has a chance to keep spreading. Don't click and collect from your local business, place orders online from them or phone up and arrange delivery.

Just stop f**king going out. If you don't HAVE to go out for work, essential shopping - ie food or medicine, just stay at home.

If you don't, don't moan when bloody Boris is on our screens on 2nd December saying the lockdown is extended.

I went out during the last one SPECIFICALLY for wine. Good times.

I'm going out tomorrow specifically for a Magnum ice cream. It's been a shit week, I need a treat and I've been craving one all day but didn't get time to go out. I'm sure the local corner shop won't mind my custom!

Quaagars · 05/11/2020 21:00

I did that too, but I had a panic on I'd be stopped by someone on this thread, either physically or by raised eyebrows lol so bought some emergency milk or loaf of bread to go with Grin
Anyone seen Father Ted?
The fridge was resembling Mrs Doyle's at one point when she was looking for excuses to see Pat Mustard Grin

Me - "we're running low on milk, need to go get some"

TheVanguardSix · 05/11/2020 21:04

I've lived in the UK since the 90s. Didn't know what The Range was until about a month ago. Never heard of it. I now feel compelled to go!

Torri67 · 05/11/2020 21:28

Well I went to work (yes, I'm one of those who HAS to) and this thread blew up. Thanks for all the name calling and judgements upon my character, luckily my wings of steel can protect me from that . Most of the people who disagree have said exactly what I would expect from those who feel buying baubles and craft supplies trump doing your part to stem the virus.

I think that's what is so blindingly obvious is that it will take all of us to make small sacrifices like not going to Poundland or wherever for four weeks. It's such a small ask for such a big win but it seems it's just too much to ask of some people. It's like dealing with toddlers stamping their feet and screaming 'but I waaaaaant to'.

We've all been out shopping since July. Four weeks we've been asked to stay at home Hmm.

Anyway I shall bow out gracefully and leave you all to it. Thanks to those who are also right agreed. Those who don't, do enjoy The Range, it will be SUCH a worthwhile trip.

Brilliant The Range is open

Shall pop there after work

Thanks op

The replies to this are monumentally depressing. I'm not agreeing that anyone who goes to a shop for a non essential item is a murderer but the general trend of 'I'll do what I like' is astonishing. If it was a case of 'I'll go for a walk during an air raid if I want to' and just you gets killed, I'd say fill your boots. But as a society we need to protect each other. I think that's what the OP is saying.

MarcelineMissouri · 05/11/2020 21:39

It’s not ‘I'll do what I like” though is it?

It’s ‘I’ll go to a shop that is legally allowed to be open, wear a mask and maintain social distancing.’ I haven’t seen people saying they won’t be doing these things.

Quaagars · 05/11/2020 21:41

I don't think the majority are just "doing what they like" though. (Obviously not speaking for those who don't give a shit, knobbers always gonna knob for want of a better expression.) I'm sticking to the rules, wearing my mask, social distancing, don't really go anywhere. If I did have a Range near here damn right I would go. Just like I have a browse of Poundland or Wilkos. As long as we're being sensible, you have to "live" as well. Not just exist. Think some of the responses are just because people are starting to get fed up of people shouting stay the fuck at home when there's nothing wrong with going out and being sensible.
Quaagars · 05/11/2020 21:44

Cross posted with @MarcelineMissouri who managed to say what I was basically saying just much more succinctly lol

You do realise for some people that it IS a big ask to do this. To stay at home for four weeks....you might think it’s easy but you need to come out of your narrow minded world and see more than your view.

I have a 3 year old....do you know how affected she was last time? We’d fixed that damage and here we are again, it’s heartbreaking. I’m so glad I can take her to more places this time, not because I’m selfish and I’m ‘stamping my feet and screaming....’ but because I don't want her growing up with anxieties and worries and fear that came about because of lockdowns. She’s really resilient but she is also very clever and notices everything.

We also did our part in the last lockdown to ‘stem the virus’...I think for the worlds sake you need to do your part and open your mind.

OP is one of those people that believe if we are all good boys and girls and do as we are told, covid will go away and we wont be grounded any more
Lol love it

It’s almost unbearably poignant that you think browsing Poundland makes the difference between living and existing.

RobinHobb · 05/11/2020 21:53

This thread is too good. Thanks for cheering me up people.

OP is not very clever.

Grin If it gets me out of the house and stops me doing a Shirley Valentine to myself talking to the walls some days, yeah some days I need to go out lol

Many small things make the difference between living and existing. The ability to go out and buy a magnum. To take my daughter to the playground. To buy a little Xmas bauble for our tree. If you prefer to sit quivering with fear inside the house, please feel free to do so :-)
Quaagars · 05/11/2020 21:57

Good to know that's all you took from my post though lol

stevalnamechanger · 05/11/2020 21:57

Oooh I do need some new cushions ...

Quaagars · 05/11/2020 21:58

Exactly

GuyFawkesHadTheRightIdea · 05/11/2020 22:01

My DSis works at the Range. I'd rather she could support her family properly. I'm sick and tired of people wishing hardship on others because 'this isn't essential,', 'that should be closed'... If you don't think the Range should be open then just don't shop there!

TheKeatingFive · 05/11/2020 22:05

Well you can always comfort yourself with the knowledge that you’re far too cultured and refined to get anything out of shopping at Poundland. That inner glow of superiority will get you through this lockdown and beyond.

ItsAlwaysSunnyOnMN · 05/11/2020 22:10

Many small things make the difference between living and existing

Absolutely agree

Wondering around Wilkos after lockdown eased earlier in the year was so comforting

laudemio · 05/11/2020 22:13

What is the range? Is it American? I'm imagining American ikea?

Nonimai · 05/11/2020 22:14

I completely agree with you.

Quaagars · 05/11/2020 22:15

@laudemio

What is the range? Is it American? I'm imagining American ikea?
No, it's in the UK! No idea if it's in America as well. It's kind of a home and garden shop, sells stuff like candles, plants, throws for your sofa. So yeah kind of like an IKEA lol
