Nor any of the other shops unfairly dodging the lockdown closure by claiming they are essential (someone on another thread's, local shoe shop, local branch of Next) etc.

It's bloody ridiculous. The more we are out and about, the more this virus has a chance to keep spreading. Don't click and collect from your local business, place orders online from them or phone up and arrange delivery.

Just stop f**king going out. If you don't HAVE to go out for work, essential shopping - ie food or medicine, just stay at home.

If you don't, don't moan when bloody Boris is on our screens on 2nd December saying the lockdown is extended.

@TheKeatingFive

I've seen more of the local courier in the last six months than I've seen of my own mother.

That’s ... pretty tragic

Yes. Yes it is.

I've been trying to get her to apply for a job with DHL to circumvent the rules but she's full of excuses - I don't have a car; I'm retired; I'm 75 and need a knee replacement.

I'm starting to take it personally.

Port1aCastis · 05/11/2020 14:04

Oh lord the Mn police are in full swing today.
Why do random internet people try to dictate to others, it's crazy and laughable

FractionalGains · 05/11/2020 14:05

Please feel free to substitute the phrase ‘tacky shit’ if it makes you feel it’s keeping the topic of the thread on track

Still wouldn’t be relevant to the thread unless you’d feel differently if people were buying scented candles at White Company. It’s a cheap shot at the people who like to shop there.

Quaagars · 05/11/2020 14:06

people don't seem to care that the NHS bed capacity is already over stretched. deaths of almost 500 per day...but as long as they can go & pick up a cheap scented candle.

Hmm Biscuit

I don't think I have enough 'live.. laugh...love' pictures in my house.
I don't have any live laugh love stuff Sad
I am rather partial to a bit of "glittery tat" though lol

All those going "you don't care people are dying!"
Yes.
Yes we do.
Why do you assume everyone out is doing non essential shopping, or couldn't give a shit about the rules/law?
I'm wearing my mask outside, even when not in a shop
I'm keeping my distance from others
I'm not going to be scared into stepping out of my front door by random MN Police making up rules as they go along.

Abracadabra12345 · 05/11/2020 14:07

@Todaythiscouldbe

I'll go to The Range, B&M and any other shop that is open if I want to. I've been WFH since early March and I'm stuck in a house with a toxic husband who I've found out is having an affair and has lost his job so he's here all the time. I'll go out to get away for a while and have a bit of normality and I absolutely won't feel guilty about it.
I am so sorry. It’s a hell that others will be sharing but that doesn’t make it easier. Flowers
lilmishap · 05/11/2020 14:09

@Janaih

You should pop down there OP, pick up a box of grips.
I've just read 19 pages while chortling at this one comment!
BeijingBikini · 05/11/2020 14:09

NHS bed capacity is already over stretched

That's the case every single winter, in fact bed occupancy is currently lower than this time last year. Going into the Range/B&M is perfectly legal. Telling people to shop online is hilarious - so it's OK for warehouse employees and delivery drivers to go out and about, as long as you're locked up at home!

Calmandmeasured1 · 05/11/2020 14:12

I hope you are okay OP. You are taking some hideous flak for just expressing an opinion (which isn't even that 'out there').

I'm surprised so many people have a complete inability to express a contrary view without resorting to utter nastiness. It reflects badly on them but, evidently, they can't see that. I'm pretty sure there are others with your views who don't want to put their heads above the parapet after seeng this pile on.

TicTacTwo · 05/11/2020 14:14

The data suggests it's people mixing in homes that are high transmission situations after hospitals, care homes and education.

The only people who have visited are tradesmen who came to repair things. I will not be made to feel bad for shopping at a quiet time of day which is proven to be a low risk activity. Retailers need the footfall and money to stay afloat. This is the most important time of year for them and I don't think that an online order which puts warehouse staff and couriers at risk is necessarily better. Look up the conditions that ASOS and Amazon staff are working under. Is it ok to throw them under the bus?

iliketobecosy · 05/11/2020 14:19

@Zoflorabore

Lol at a pp saying The Range is overpriced Grin

Would love to know where you buy your homeware?

The Range is generally cheap and cheerful. It’s always pretty busy which is a good indicator and has a huge variety of things.

Too many snobs who won’t shop anywhere but John Lewis for all household appliances and other house things ( like my mum is )

There are more important things going on than people shopping perfectly legally in a shop that is allowed to be open.

Agreed, it's really reasonably priced I can't see why anyone would think it's overpriced. It's one of my favourite homeware shops. And no, I don't own any 'live laugh love' rubbish.
CoronaBollox · 05/11/2020 14:22

I'm sorry but this genuinely made me laugh. I didnt throw the cat across the room laugh mind, but still I laughed.

roarfeckingroarr · 05/11/2020 14:29

@DifficultPifcultLemonDifficult

Just because you can type a goady, moany, guilt-tripping thread on the internet, doesn't mean you should.
👏👏👏
ReadySteadyBed · 05/11/2020 14:38

Are you one of those people who got all frothy about others popping out for chocolate and wine in March?

Yes....indeed the OP is one of those.

I went out during the last one SPECIFICALLY for wine. Good times.

Brieminewine · 05/11/2020 14:41

NHS bed capacity is already over stretched

As it is every single winter. It’s madness how the media has whipped the public into such hysteria to the extent that people on the internet are trying to dictate to others about going to the frigging range! It’s not covid you should be afraid of, it’s being diagnosed with a serious illness now that screening is limited, waiting lists enormous and specialities weak at the knees. I’m frontline NHS and I’m not afraid of covid but I am afraid of someone I love being diagnosed with cancer and not been given a fighting chance because of a mild flu like illness.

Streamingbannersofdawn · 05/11/2020 14:46

I have been intermittently cuddling a two year old child all morning at work with no PPE at all because government guidelines say 1) Its not necessary and 2) their parent cannot settle them...at all.

I cant get bring myself to be cross about people in face masks passing each other in a big airy store.

Noideawottodo · 05/11/2020 14:48

I am afraid of someone I love being diagnosed with cancer and not been given a fighting chance because of a mild flu like illness

Me too. And let's remember it is mild in most cases.

IcedPurple · 05/11/2020 15:12

@BlanchflowerTulip

Just shop online. I've seen more of the local courier in the last six months than I've seen of my own mother.
Good thing minimum wage couriers and warehouse staff aren't being told to 'stay safe' or 'stay the fuck home', isn't it?
motherrunner · 05/11/2020 15:13

It’s hard to judge what is essential and that is not. You may think Next (and other clothing stores) is non-essential but if I need new work wear then I need it - I’m still working and I’m sure my pupils don’t want to see ‘miss’ naked.

If we truly adhered to ‘essentials’ surely that is just food and we’d be back to a real lockdown: no petrol for travel, outgrown/rip clothes means being bare, appliances break go cold and hungry.

I am not a shopper but I think I’d feel safer in a store being able to maintain a distance and wear a mask, than in my current situation of teaching 150 pupils a day in small, unventilated rooms.

This is not a pity post. Just put things into perspective. I don’t think shops are a concern!

motherrunner · 05/11/2020 15:15

And people need to click and collect as some of us are out at work every day so won’t be in to collect packages.

hamsterchump · 05/11/2020 15:31

I've already been to the Range today, for the toilet which was pretty essential I'd say, it was lovely and quiet.

Greyshaggyrug · 05/11/2020 15:52

I’ll be going out whenever I want. I’ll socially distance and wash my hands! But I will not stay home.

Dowser · 05/11/2020 15:57

I’ll support any business that’s open if I need something’s
Even if it’s illegal
I just can’t take this seriously.
We know lockdowns don’t work. We know masks don’t work. We know the nhs weren’t overwhelmed last time.
We know everyone who went to Cheltenham races / Bournemouth beaches/ protests/ raves/ schools/ universities didn’t die

Why are we putting up with this crap?

We know people with comorbidities died, we know elderly weak and frail people died and we know covid positive people who were sent from hospitals to care homes died when they could’ve gone to the nightingales. That were never used.

It’s all crap . Everyone knows it and we shouldn’t be letting them do this to us.

I’m going to live my life as normal.
Just like I did last time.

Dowser · 05/11/2020 16:03

@bendmeoverbackwards
Sorry for your loss but very well said and I totally agree

buttonmoonb4tea · 05/11/2020 17:20

Oh shurrup. I'm going to the range tomorrow, I'll have a look to see if there are any grips for sale.

MonaCorona · 05/11/2020 18:04

Thanks to the OP, I went to The Range today. I didn't actually buy anything, but had a very pleasant wander around the aisles.

I then went to B&M and bought some cheap cheese and milk.

I also collected something from Waitrose, and collected something else from B&Q.

All in all, a less unspeakable day than it would have been, had I stayed the fuck at home.
