Nor any of the other shops unfairly dodging the lockdown closure by claiming they are essential (someone on another thread's, local shoe shop, local branch of Next) etc.

It's bloody ridiculous. The more we are out and about, the more this virus has a chance to keep spreading. Don't click and collect from your local business, place orders online from them or phone up and arrange delivery.

Just stop f**king going out. If you don't HAVE to go out for work, essential shopping - ie food or medicine, just stay at home.

If you don't, don't moan when bloody Boris is on our screens on 2nd December saying the lockdown is extended.

I went to a hardware shop yesterday to buy a radiator spanner. I feel I should declare this so the authorities can take me away for re-education.

Ah but yesterday was fine. If, however, you'd gone today you would be responsible for murdering everyone who'd ever even thought about going in that shop.

annabel85 · 05/11/2020 13:24

I totally agree with you but sadly the attitude of so many of the UK, as seen here, means that lockdown will extend much further.

I think this is it now for the winter. A) because people won't do as they're asked and b) because loads of things are still open compared to when we did lockdown in the spring.

The virus is going to be more virulent in the winter but people won't do their bit anymore and Covid doesn't care if they're bored of it.

Zoflorabore · 05/11/2020 13:27

We as a family of 4, 2 adults, a 9yr old girl and a 17yr old boy are one of the few families in my close that actually followed the rules in lockdown.

Myself and dp are already on AD’s and my son who has Aspergers and anxiety ended up on them towards the end of lockdown due to his MH.

We are doing up our house after living here for 6 years and finally having the money to do so as dp has redundancy money and a new job. We will be going to The Range and other similar shops for paint, wallpaper etc and stuff I probably don’t need but i don’t feel like I’m a bad person for doing so.

I haven’t set foot in a pub or a restaurant all year and nobody has been in my house. Someone trying to guilt trip me on MN will have zero impact on my decision to go there. I need a bit of a lift and being such a saddo, going shopping for house things brings me a lot of joy so no I won’t stop going there.

90sgirl89 · 05/11/2020 13:27

We can't continue being lonely miserable people with no life!! We did what was asked through the summer.

Yes people protested over George Floyd and BLM. Yes riots happened. But a massive part of the UK followed rules.

Despite BJ feeling very confident we can send it packing in 12 weeks. He's now aiming for about 52 weeks. He thinks by spring we should be in a much better position.

Theres only so much people should have to miss. Our littlest generation are not able to go to groups and mix as children should. Our kids are at school scrubbing their hands and kept in bubbles. Adults are committing suicide because life's abit hard right now.

I actually didn't realise it was firework night. The first year I've not celebrated with my children. Because everything is cancelled.

So if people go to the range for a break from four walls it's fine!

Armi · 05/11/2020 13:28

What an unpleasant thread. I agree with the OP. Staying at home and avoiding non-essential outings is what people are meant to be doing in order for schools to stay open. All the snarky, petulant folk on this thread will, no doubt, be full of complaints if their kids are at home with them again because infection rates haven’t dropped and schools need to be shut.

Reducing all contact as much as possible reduces viral spread. All situations where there are other people are an opportunity for viral spread. I am a teacher and given that I am going into a crowded environment with little capacity for social distancing I would very much like people to try to restrict their contacts with others, as less virus circulating in a community means, hopefully, less virus being brought into schools which in turn may mean less illness being taken home again by staff and students.

But you crack on and buy your piles of landfill tat, just because you can.

Fawnfour · 05/11/2020 13:30

Don't be a boring miserable person then, pretty sad if lockdown makes you boring and miserable

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 05/11/2020 13:33

@FlouncerInDenial

What is this Range you all speak of? It sounds like a world of wonder!
Oh it's not. It's pretty rubbish, mostly just over priced crap.

The BEST thing it sells are boxes of broken biscuits which take me back to the milkman selling them when I was a child. But I can't eat biscuits anymore, so meh.

The Govt needs to sort the shops situation out. The owners with a moral compass are suffering, while those without are suddenly selling 'essentials' and are just taking the piss

This isn't a lockdown. People don't seem to care that the NHS bed capacity is already over stretched. deaths of almost 500 per day...but as long as they can go & pick up a cheap scented candle...

loobyloo1234 · 05/11/2020 13:34

So now people are 'unpleasant' for saying they'll go to The Range. FFS

Until there is actual proof of outbreaks in shops and that going to these places is helping to increase the rate of infection (when most people wear masks in these places) I'll stop going. Until then, you do you, we'll do us

CoronaBollox · 05/11/2020 13:34

Mumsnet is batshit.

There needs to be a tier system for guidelines.

  1. What the goverment set. 2. What user678 on MN sets.
BlanchflowerTulip · 05/11/2020 13:37

Just shop online. I've seen more of the local courier in the last six months than I've seen of my own mother.

SufferingFromLongLockdown · 05/11/2020 13:38

I stopped worrying about landfill tat when coronavirus became the only thing we are allowed to worry about.
When you could only get drinks in takeaway cups and the reusable cups I'd bought became redundant. When I started seeing disposible masks strewn around.

I cloth nappied my children, so that's thousands of nappies and wipes i saved from landfill, so I'm going to enjoy going where I want and buying whatever tat I want until we start to care about things other than covid again.

TheKeatingFive · 05/11/2020 13:41

That’s ... pretty tragic

Calmandmeasured1 · 05/11/2020 13:45

@Torvean32

BoJo is the only leader that doesn't do lockdown properly.
Its been tougher in all the devolved countries.
Well plenty of people are kicking up a fuss and talking about interfering with our liberties as it is. Can you imagine the response if we did have a proper lockdown?

Armi · 05/11/2020 13:47

Quite.

People are not very bright. Or maybe just utterly selfish. Not sure which.

bendmeoverbackwards · 05/11/2020 13:47

I also lost a parent this year back in March. And not from covid, it was a heart condition. If anything, it has reminded me even more to make the most of every day and to live life to the full.

Back in March I was a stickler for the rules and people, especially older people, going out and flouting them made me furious. However now I think differently. Older people who are nearing the end of their lives have already lost 8 months of what time they have left. They are isolated at home and cannot see their loved ones. You have to die of something and looking at the stats, more people are dying from dementia, heart disease and cancer. I don't really blame some people for wanting to continue their lives as normally as possible while they still can.

Back in March people were generally compliant because a) we were all scared of this new illness, and b) the weather was good and lockdown didn't seem so bad. Now in November it's a different story, people are fed up and have had enough. Plus the schools are open.

Boris is an idiot for doing this half-hearted approach in the first place. He must know people were not going to stick to it. If you're going to to it, do it properly. I bet there won't be as many fines or other punishments as last time because everyone seems to be so lax about it.

CoronaBollox · 05/11/2020 13:49

Government ffs*

draughtycatflap · 05/11/2020 13:51

Where else am I going to get a glitter painting to complement my lovely lady statues.

I agree there’s a conversation to be had about throwaway culture but it’s not relevant to this thread as OP is suggesting people buy online so there’s no reduction in “landfill tat”

SufferingFromLongLockdown · 05/11/2020 13:56

I don't think I have enough 'live.. laugh...love' pictures in my house. Does anyone know where I can get more?

Zoflorabore · 05/11/2020 13:59

Lol at a pp saying The Range is overpriced Grin

Would love to know where you buy your homeware?

The Range is generally cheap and cheerful. It’s always pretty busy which is a good indicator and has a huge variety of things.

Too many snobs who won’t shop anywhere but John Lewis for all household appliances and other house things ( like my mum is )

There are more important things going on than people shopping perfectly legally in a shop that is allowed to be open.
