Nor any of the other shops unfairly dodging the lockdown closure by claiming they are essential (someone on another thread's, local shoe shop, local branch of Next) etc.

It's bloody ridiculous. The more we are out and about, the more this virus has a chance to keep spreading. Don't click and collect from your local business, place orders online from them or phone up and arrange delivery.

Just stop f**king going out. If you don't HAVE to go out for work, essential shopping - ie food or medicine, just stay at home.

If you don't, don't moan when bloody Boris is on our screens on 2nd December saying the lockdown is extended.

@Wherearefoxssocks

I'll follow the rules. The ACTUAL rules. Not some MNetters trumped up version of the rules.
This.
Blondiney · 05/11/2020 09:51

What is The Range of which you speak and do we have one in my area??? Feel like I'm missing out!

DownThePlath · 05/11/2020 09:51

@Torri67

Just because you can type a goady, moany, guilt-tripping thread on the internet, doesn't mean you should.

It's what the internet is for surely?

And it's a thread born of frustration. Total and utter frustration at the stupid, selfish behaviour of people in the UK (as so beautifully demonstrated by poster on this thread).

If you lose a relative or friend or someone you know does, do remember that you were part of the body of people who felt going shopping was more important than contributing to the national effort to stop the spread of the virus Hmm. Really, do remember that.

I'm sure most people will continue sleeping soundly at night

@Popcornriver

Almost 500 deaths yesterday and some hospitals are worse off than they were in the peak yet the government has allowed a lockdown 'lite' instead of actually closing the country down. They should have paid more attention to the scientists in September.

This is nothing like a lockdown, I can't see how it will help enough. Do it or don't, this seems like a massive waste of time. It was a nightmare outside my child's school today because there's no crossing guard thanks to the lockdown. The roads are as full as normal. What is stopping people going to the Range going to do when most people are still out at work and all children at school?

My daughters school still had the lollipop lady today. Ours is employed by the school? So school staff.

I’m not keen on the range. They have a good craft area though.

I prefer b&m and home bargains to pick up a few bargains.

Didkdt · 05/11/2020 09:54

You have no idea what or why something is essential.
I sometimes wonder if some people get a free pair of judgey twistable knickers if they join mumsnet.

YouLikeTheBadOnesToo · 05/11/2020 09:55

@Enoughnowstop

Isn’t that because the schools are open?

I left at 7:30. I don't think the average school run is taking place at that time but I could be wrong.

I think the other big change this time is that the message is that if you can’t work form home, you have to go to work (unless you work in one of the sectors forced to close, obviously).

I know 4 people who were furloughed in the first lockdown, but are travelling to work through this one. For example, my brother was furloughed the first time, because he lives in a house share, meaning he couldn’t satisfy the Data Protection requirements of his role. He doesn’t work in retail, hospitality or leisure, so the company aren’t eligible for the furlough grant this time around. He and loads of his colleagues are on the roads today, who weren’t in March/April.

tsmainsqueeze · 05/11/2020 09:55

People are doing their own thing now due to total lack of trust in a government who don't know their arse from their elbow , Cummings actions didn't help either .
This isn't a proper lockdown far too many places are open .
I'm not planning on going wild but i will decide what's right for me and my family ,i think we are pretty much on our own at the moment ,obviously i don't want people to suffer with this virus but i think the future is going to be a lot more scary.
If you are going out to work and your kids are at school going to the range etc isn't going to make a lot of difference.
Either lockdown or don't -not what ever this version is .

What is contemptible is the destruction of our country and all the the war heroes fought for and people have worked for since.[/quote]
The war heroes suffered a lot more than a few weeks of pub closures. People just need to do their bit to see the NHS through the winter.

Devillishlypicklypickles · 05/11/2020 09:55

Sorry but I will be going to the Range, it has an Iceland inside and its the closest one to where we live, don't see how going here is any different to going to any other supermarket or shop?!

MuchTooTired · 05/11/2020 09:55

I agree with you mostly OP. For me and my family, I’m not happy to take the risk however slight it may be.

Wouldn’t dream of telling anyone else what they should and shouldn’t do. Whilst I know there’s people out there who doesn’t believe it’s real and is just a conspiracy some in my extended family I assume the vast majority are making decisions that’s best for them. I know that I’m in a lucky position with a lockdown, and have no need to go out. My MH is surprisingly holding up pretty well. Not everyone else is the same, and as long as they’re not breaking any rules (which I wouldn’t know about because I’m tucked up at home) then it’s their decision and I’ll mind my own business Wink

ShulaArcher · 05/11/2020 09:56

@FlouncerInDenial

What is this Range you all speak of? It sounds like a world of wonder!
No, it's full of tat crying out to be sent to landfill. During last lockdown whilst I was queueing for Greggs I saw someone exiting the Range carrying a huge ornamental bejewelled skull.
Completmentfille · 05/11/2020 09:57

I do think the government have done a really splendid job of making us blame one another rather than them.

They could have locked down earlier in March. They didn't.

They could have done a circuit breaker over half term. They didn't.

They could have opened schools again with appropriate safety measures to curb the spread. They didn't.

They could have got an actual functioning test and trace system in place, with contact tracing functioning and people supported to isolate. They didn't.

None of this was necessary. Blame them. Not people going to buy Christmas decorations from the range.

Jrobhatch29 · 05/11/2020 09:58

Oh dear OP. Well this morning I went into asda to buy chicken and whilst in there I also bought some completely non essential Christmas tree baubles and some Pudsey ears. Shoot me now!

dementedpixie · 05/11/2020 10:01

There is some tat but there are also useful items. We buy our giant aluminium foil roll there. I've also bought bedding and art/craft stuff for dd when she was doing her art higher at school.

Or just walk through the Christmas department for a bit of cheer and twinkly lights

annabel85 · 05/11/2020 10:01

He doesn’t work in retail, hospitality or leisure, so the company aren’t eligible for the furlough grant this time around. He and loads of his colleagues are on the roads today, who weren’t in March/April.

Yeah, the roads are still packed, for a variety of reasons whereas they were dead in March/April.

This 'lockdown' is a) way too half baked and b) too late it should have incorporated an extended half term.

Therefore the restrictions in place will be needed longer to make any sort of impact. This is why areas like Manchester have been under local restrictions since the summer. The measures just didn't make a difference.

Well this thread really has outdone itself for day one of lockdown 😂 I thought it would take a couple days at least for the rise of the covid gestapo but bright and early here we go 😂😂

WhentheDealGoesDown · 05/11/2020 10:05

Maybe OP has a vested interest in The Range, I am alway suspicious of these threads that pick on certain businesses and ramp up interest

TurquoiseDragon · 05/11/2020 10:05

@missmouse101

Op, I absolutely agree with you. These people on your thread were no doubt those clapping on their doorsteps for the NHS. You can't fix stupid unfortunately. How people still aren't getting it, I don't know.
I didn't clap, I did practical stuff for the NHS. I am also not stupid, and nor is my town.

This isn't lockdown, it's lockdown lite, and I'm glad DS is still able to go to college, as although a number of lessons are online, he can't do the practicals at home. He's going to be paying taxes in future and we can't afford for his generation to lose out on their education.

We were Tier 1, in an area surrounded by Tier 2/3 cities, and our rates were falling. They were also the lowest rates in the county and had been low for quite a while.

I will do what I've always been doing (and what my town as a whole has been doing). I will go out, maintain social distance, wear masks, keep my hands sanitised, and do my shopping. I want some stuff from Wilko anyway, and they've been very good there about keeping people safe.

I went to a coffee shop yesterday to meet a cousin. We were outside, and spaced well apart. But the coffee shop is going to go under if business drops, so they are now having to look at offering takeaway, so I'm going to order.

There are lots of us in town trying to support our local businesses, and if that means going into the shops, then I will.

I'll also be going to my dad's house. While DB lives with him, I can do some shopping and drop it off in his shed.

We can't afford for the economy to drop any more, and my town has been doing well, so I'll carry on doing what I've done so far.

This thread is a micro-example of exactly why the Govt. chose not to enforce a full lockdown. They knew the general public wouldn't tolerate it.

IHTC · 05/11/2020 10:07

Here's a useful list of all the shops staying open 😊

Ours has an Iceland in so ... pretty essential!

DownThePlath · 05/11/2020 10:10

@everybodysang

Wow. Mumsnet's always been full of cunts (it's one of the reasons I've always rather liked it!) but it's a bit much these days. But you do you lot, keep popping out for Christmas decorations and whatever you like and keep that R rate up so we can lock down a bit longer. Twats.
Will do x

Too many people who think their rights trump everything else, including the health of the nation.
