The explicitly said that child contact should continue so if you carry relevant documentation you should be fine[/quote]
The new guidelines do not mention child contact at all.

here Rules

@Summerfreeze

Be better than an idiot, rather than choosing them as a role model.

I am. I would never do what he did. But Boris thinks what he did was fine, so any non-essential travel that I do is definitely fine.

Then you are as stupid as he is.
friendlycat · 01/11/2020 00:03

Look just accept that summerfreeze is “special” because SummerFreeze obviously thinks so.

It’s all these “special” people where the rules and restrictions don’t apply to them. Perhaps SF is a relative of Dom Cummings and they share the same holiday home.

@OverTheRainbow88

I thought holiday home was ok, but advised against.

Travel within the U.K. is Discouraged but not banned!

So we will be going to ours!

@OverTheRainbow88 Overnight stays away from your main home are definitely banned, so I just hope you can get there and back in a day.
Summerfreeze · 01/11/2020 00:07

I honestly think a lot of this is about people feeling some kind of inverted snobbery about others having second homes. But as someone else has pointed out on this thread, a second home doesn't necessarily mean that someone is an upper class twit MP type. There are lots of circumstances that lead to this - tied houses with jobs, military, needing to live in a location for work and frequently visit elderly parents in another location - etc.

I think it's people stopping at petrol stations, where there are other people, going in to pay, wandering around to get milk and M&Ms etc.

I don't do any of that so you can sleep easy. Pay at pump, gel before and after.

Anyway, none of this is about whether someone travelling to a second home will cause more Covid, it's about the fact those are the rules and you're intending to break them.

But it should be about what will cause more Covid. Isn't Covid the problem that we're trying to solve here? Why are you mad at an action that doesn't spread Covid but not mad at all the people who 'ate out to help out' (I didn't) just because those actions were inside some set of rules that a blatantly corrupt government has set out?

Yes, perfectly.

It's been about 13 years, thank you.

EachDubh · 01/11/2020 00:13

Here's hoping the local community feel you are part of them or else you may be reported and face a fine. Unless you are D Cummings or an MP in which case you will possibly be knighted😂

ReefTeeth · 01/11/2020 00:21

I will get flamed, but if my main place of residency was a small house in London and I had a second home in the country with space, my car would be packed.

We are just coming out of a 4 month long lockdown in Melbourne that originally started as 6 weeks and included a curfew. I wouldn't trust that yours won't be longer than 4 weeks, but hope it doesn't go to 4 months like ours.

But it worked here because overall Australian houses are bigger than the UK. We live in a standard Melbourne suburb in a fairly standard 'detached' house (not a term used often because most all houses are detached) with a huge undercover outside area where the DC played almost everyday over winter.

I think about our house in London and do thank God we left 2 years ago to come home. Lockdown and all.

There's really no need for you to tell me what I am and am not "mad" about, thanks.

Most likely most people won't know I'm there, due to my quiet lifestyle. It's highly unlikely anyone would report me as my neighbours are nice people. If they did I'd say I was there for work reasons. I work from home but could easily argue I needed a quieter location to accomplish that work. Can't see a fine sticking tbh, too many grey areas.

Aridane · 01/11/2020 00:37

it already states will not be allowed so it couldn't be clearer.

No, @crazyfrogs

As previously stated, we need to see the LEGISLATION, not some summary GUIDANCE

Plus earlier the Guidance uses the SHOULD word (You should avoid all non-essential travel by private or public transport.)

newbie987 · 01/11/2020 01:03

@Choux

Seems like it's ok to go to a second home for work purposes. Is this an attempt to allow MPs and their families to travel at will. Looking at you Robert Jenrick!

If you are in a support bubble with someone you can still stay overnight at their house can't you? Am due to take my 80 year old dad to a hospital apptmt on Friday and I live 200+ miles away so was going to stay a few days. We are a bubble.

I've just looked this up myself, we are in a support bubble with FIL and we regularly stay overnight to keep him company.
Are holidays still allowed?
slashlover · 01/11/2020 01:10

I assume a holiday to Durham would still be totally fine. Especially if you are actively infected. It’s what any reasonable parent would do.

LOL! I've never read this hilarious comment before.

Aridane · 01/11/2020 01:13

Yes - but it never gets tired

I suppose it would as long as you didn't see anybody on the way and were able to isolate while you were there.

It states that holidays will not be allowed , there is no need to mention travel as clearly you need to travel to get to your holiday.
EmmaGrundyForPM · 01/11/2020 05:06

@ballsdeep

FFS honest to god no wonder we are in another lockdown!!!
exactly
NannyMcphee39 · 01/11/2020 05:06

Probably going to be hard to police people going on holiday, I doubt they will be able to therefore if people can get away with it they will.

And that’s what it boils down to. I’m in Tier 3, travel is discouraged and yet people I know have been all over during half term. 100s of miles.

People won’t see this as a real lockdown because schools, colleges and universities are still open.

OverTheRainbow88 · 01/11/2020 06:37

Our holiday home is 2 hours Away, we fill up petrol before we leave, buy the food before we leave and take it with us. Once there we go to the beach, playgrounds and everything outside. We buy cuppas and food from outside stools as snacks etc.

It says travel within the U.K. is discouraged.
We will be going.

RainingBatsAndFrogs · 01/11/2020 07:08

@OverTheRainbow88

I thought holiday home was ok, but advised against.

Travel within the U.K. is Discouraged but not banned!

So we will be going to ours!

From the Gvt website:

“Overnight stays and holidays away from primary residences will not be allowed- including holidays in the UK and abroad. This includes staying in a second home, if you own one, or staying with anyone you do not live with or are in a support bubble with. There are specific exceptions, for example if you need to stay away from home (including in a second home) for work purposes”

www.gov.uk/guidance/new-national-restrictions-from-5-november

It’s not allowed.

All my extended family live in an area that is very low infection but high in holiday / second homes. The local community are already angry that lockdown was not brought in before half term and an influx of people taking a break from schools and workplaces. This is a short lockdown. Expect it to be closely policed. Expect local people to report you. My family are not like that but a village that does community speed watch is gearing up to do holiday home watch.

emilybrontescorsett · 01/11/2020 07:19

Ffs let’s all make exceptions because you know ‘I’m special’
You can’t go to your holiday home. Just as I will now have to cancel my travel plans. I’m not happy, I’m not infected and I’ve worked solidly through this mess.
Stop being a twat. Nobody likes this.

GalaxyCookieCrumble · 01/11/2020 07:19

@Dontfuckingsaycheese

I'm sorry. I completely missed the bit in the press conference where they said you can swan about as normal. Hmm

No. You can't go on holiday. Wtf would you???

Are you always so rude?
