So shutting down everything but keeping schools open.AIBU to think that a lockdown should involve schools closing as well.Have been about six cases in my dds secondary zero social distancing and is just defeating the object of a lockdown as it has now been proven that schools,colleges etc can easily spread the virus.

OP posts:
Freshcoatofpaint · 31/10/2020 20:19

Nope. No cases in our very large primary (or any others locally) so why should they close??

00100001 · 31/10/2020 20:19
@00100001 the parents?
How? They're at work?

LesLavandes · 31/10/2020 20:19

No no

raspberryk · 31/10/2020 20:19

What’s your address hun? I’ll send my 2 primary kids to you for childcare and education 3 school years apart, while my dp is at work and I’m at uni shall I? No?

GlummyMcGlummerson · 31/10/2020 20:20

YABU.

At what point do we sacrifice our childrens' mental health and education?

Not to mention parents having to once again home school whilst WFH - and that's if they're lucky enough be able to WFH.

I always think it's people who can cope with/afford/have the time to be at hone with their kids who shout the loudest about keeping them off school. Bet their tune would change if they had to work 9-5 in a supermarket though

Nicknacky · 31/10/2020 20:20

1Morewineplease You realise that that only helps if the kids are wearing face coverings?

marveloustimeruiningeverything · 31/10/2020 20:20

Fuck off. Seriously.

So many children have really struggled being out of school. Our safeguarding concerns are up, and so many children are so far behind. I want them to stay in school where we're doing our best to support them and help them catch up.

safariboot · 31/10/2020 20:20

YANBU.

At least one scientist interviewed on the news was saying, basically, if we half arse this that it won't be effective. And that indications are even going to an alternate rota system, like some 6th forms are doing, could dramatically reduce the overall R number, schools are such hotbeds of infection right now.

DumplingsAndStew · 31/10/2020 20:20

Not been a single case known in my kids secondary school.

justanotherneighinparadise · 31/10/2020 20:21

Blah blah blah blah blah blah nlah

00100001 · 31/10/2020 20:21

@Coldandwet123

Another thread where people give birth, only to mistake teachers for childcare 🙄
Oh, so you don't work?
Badgerbadger22 · 31/10/2020 20:21

Nope 👎 definitely nope

Thewordgame · 31/10/2020 20:21

It's not all COVID free in Primary. We have 6 staff off on Monday and supplies coming in. Understandably many of our parents do not want to have their young children tested so we could have many a symptomatic children in our classes especially as we have lots of siblings in different bubbles.

Mokusspokus · 31/10/2020 20:22

Former, it's different for ages, how it was set up.

I just know for many secondary schools, there was no option or opportunity for students to slack. They had to be signed on by 9am or they were chased. They had pretty much normal teaching on line, the usual breaks.
Those dp didn't have to do anything because it was very much business as usual!
For primary, the younger ones I don't know....

olivesonapizza · 31/10/2020 20:22

No, I think schools should stay open. And nothing to do with childcare, I just believe that children's education and development should be prioritised. They've already missed enough.

AlinaSquareQueen · 31/10/2020 20:22

YABU.

And I say that as a TA in a large, crowded secondary school. I have no choice but to get up close and personal with 12-13 year olds - if I didn’t, I couldn’t do my job properly. It’s as simple as that. We are encouraged to wear visors and/or masks in lessons but I choose not to, as do many of my colleagues.

Children and young adults need to be at school/university and Boris has made the right call and I’m no Tory voter (never have, never will).

TheDowagerDuchessofMwwwahaha · 31/10/2020 20:23

Children need an education. They’ve given up enough already for this pandemic. None of this mess is their fault.

BurningMam · 31/10/2020 20:23

This thread is 99% "I don't care that lockdown is pointless, schools should stay open because it's inconvenient for me if they close".

Readandwalk · 31/10/2020 20:24

No. I'm a teacher in Ireland.

We've been in lockdown apart from schools.

Masks compulsory here in secondary.

Our government is hiding and distorting cases in schools BUT overall it's better they stay open .

Bellesavage · 31/10/2020 20:24

@Nicknacky

I would put money on those who want schools to close either don’t work or they or their partner work at home.
Dh and I are both working from home but having DC off school would be disastrous as we need to be able to work, not homeschool, not answer a million questions, we need to have our heads in our work.
BurningMam · 31/10/2020 20:24

@DumplingsAndStew

Not been a single case known in my kids secondary school.
You wouldn't necessarily be told if there was. How do you think you'd know the medical status of every child in your child's school?!
Nicknacky · 31/10/2020 20:24

BurningMan Its more than inconvenient for us, it’s near on impossible.

SirVixofVixHall · 31/10/2020 20:25

I agree OP.
