@ScottishStottie this is what she said

People should not travel to or from level 3 areas in Scotland and for now, we are asking people not to travel to or from England at all, except for essential purposes.

They are only asking you will be fine .

lyralalala · 31/10/2020 17:49

@ScottishStottie

I have to travel from the north east to edinburgh for work on tuesday... Am i allowed?

Im not a keyworker, the job itself isnt 'essential' but its work so on an individual level its essential to me. Will nicola turn me away at the border?

No-one is going to turn you away at the border.

Work is an exception so if you're allowed to work in your area then you are allowed to travel.

topcat2014 · 31/10/2020 17:50

Now 630. BBC will be so annoyed at the airtime!¬

DuncinToffee · 31/10/2020 17:51

Tanith Jeremy Hunt's latest tweet was calling Johnson 'brave' and that we should listen to him...

We didn't get his circular

SheepandCow · 31/10/2020 17:51

Jeremy Hunt has no business complaining. It's in large part down to him that we're in this mess. It was on his watch that the pandemic planning recommendations were ignored.

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 31/10/2020 17:52

No point in BoJo now BBC has just summarised the points

HunkyPunk · 31/10/2020 17:52

Rita's doing a sterling job keeping it all going on BBC1, I must say!

LolalovesLondon · 31/10/2020 17:52

6.30pm... They don’t know what they’re doing!!!
Come on BBC, just put on an old episode of ‘only fools and horses’ to pass the time.

SheepandCow · 31/10/2020 17:55

@MadameMinimes

More likely to be trouble in the party than from unions. The teaching unions are toothless now.

He doesn’t actually need the votes in his party as Starmer publicly promised him the votes he needs to pass a circuit breaker. I think Boris would rather walk through broken glass than use labour votes to pass it though.

Well then he's a stubborn fool. Just like during WW2, dealing with a national crisis should transcend politics.

Do we know if the banks will shut as I need a large sum of cash in the next week or so.

MushMonster · 31/10/2020 17:57

Is it at 6:30 for sure? or 6:00?

WitchesSpelleas · 31/10/2020 17:58

@justoffshift

Do we know if the banks will shut as I need a large sum of cash in the next week or so.
Bank staff have been classed as key workers, so they'll be open.
SheepandCow · 31/10/2020 17:58

@MarshaBradyo

More likely stark economic reality than unions holding it up.
Let us just hope that there's no more shortsighted false economy.

Here's more wise words from Professor Sridhar:

Back in late Feb, a Chinese colleague said that with early action & an elimination strategy (stop transmission within borders), we could be past the worst by June. The UK response was ‘costs are too high.’ We are now into November & 2nd lockdown - cost with this approach?

Bear in mind this isn't going to go away in the next few months.

Aragog · 31/10/2020 17:59

its fine for eduction unions to say schools should close but they still not ready for online learning even though they were told to get it going

We provided a minimum of 5 lessons a day online from April to July, covering the three core subjects daily and the other subjects at least once a week. All core subject lessons included pre recorded videos made my teaching staff, who were also in school teaching full bubbles of key worker and vulnerable children.

We didn't do live lessons as this was definitely not the way forward for our school catchment and community as a whole.

We are providing home learning daily every time a bubble closes, and at least core subjects every time a child has to self isolate. Again mostly accompanied by pre recorded videos by teaching staff who are all teaching FT in school daily.

I know all this is happening as I am the one who oversees and coordinates it all.

All our local schools are providing home learning online for closed bubbles. The secondaries are usually providing some live lessons alongside this too, for both bubbles and individuals self isolating.

I would have thought many schools could be providing remote learning more quickly this time round, if they needed to be.

SheepandCow · 31/10/2020 18:00

Hope they protect renters. They need to clarify wrt evictions during any lockdown. (Revert to paying housing benefit direct to landlords to help both tenant and landlord).

savagebaggagemaster · 31/10/2020 18:01

@BellsaRinging

Do you think it's trouble from the teaching and lecturing unions? Not that I would blame them...
I don't think this government gives a flying fig about teachers and those who work in schools.
LolalovesLondon · 31/10/2020 18:03

Definitely watching the rugby.

Half time is around 6.25pm I think. (Kick off was 5.44pm)

BJ will take a 10/15 min break at half time to tell us we’re all doomed and go straight back to the game.

Twat.

LolalovesLondon · 31/10/2020 18:03

Or, he might be eating his tea.

DirtyBlonde · 31/10/2020 18:04

Honestly, Celebrity Mastermind bumped off for no good reason

What is the world coming to

SophieB100 · 31/10/2020 18:05

Beth Rigby just said that he needs to wriggle on - Strictly is on at 7.10!!

PicsInRed · 31/10/2020 18:05

Or possibly somebody is desperately pouring black coffee down Boris's throat in an attempt to sober him up before he is wheeled out to the nation

Huh. Yeah, if they didn't plan to have a press conference today, that's probably it actually.

LolalovesLondon · 31/10/2020 18:05

I would have thought many schools could be providing remote learning more quickly this time round, if they needed to be.

Without a doubt. It’s been one of our priorities - remote learning.

SophieB100 · 31/10/2020 18:07

Our secondary school has had everything in place for remote learning since October 1. We were told to.

PicsInRed · 31/10/2020 18:08

I wonder if Whitty and Valance have Boris on an IV saline drip. Wide open.
