I've just woke up and read we may be heading for a National lockdown

I think I must have been living under a rock the last few days as this is the first I've heard of it.

I've tried not to read the news too much as it just worries me.

I'm really in a panic now. How will we all get through a winter lockdown? The summer one was bad enough but at least we had the sun and bright days.

I was so happy to have my job back, my company will not survive another full lockdown.

If the school close I feel that will be disastrous. My dc have loved being back and have literally skipped into school every day since September. I really hope the schools will stay open.

How the hell can I organize Christmas like this!

I can feel myself getting really stressed out and worried about everything.

I can't believe I couldn't see this coming sooner!

OP posts:

@Themostwonderfultimeoftheyear Ditto! Put our almost two year old to bed VERY late on holiday and she still gets up at 5am, just has tantrums all day long instead of a lie in. She’s also like a puppy and needs to be walked twice a day to avoid her destroying the house.

Luckily I go to work all day (teacher) and have very patient ILs!

lovelemoncurd · 31/10/2020 07:08

There's about 10 threads all on the same subject now.

WingBingo · 31/10/2020 07:10

Mum mums funeral is on 13th November, I’m worried about that now.

We can only have 20 guests according to current guidelines, I really hope that doesn’t change.

WingBingo · 31/10/2020 07:11

Mum mum? My mum that should say.

Thatwentbadly · 31/10/2020 07:18

OP you need to look out for the R number, what’s happening in other European countries and what the WHO and scientific advisers say. We have people not following the rules, people pushing to do the most possible rather than the least possible social contact, in correct mask wearing and a shambolic government who still hasn’t got track and trace working effectively. It was bound to come. Last nights news said we are already surpassing the government worse case situation planning - that out the winter covid death rate at 85,000.

The media need to stop peddling the saving Christmas crap and start being truthful that what individuals (we can’t relay on the government) decide to do or not do can reduce the number of deaths.

HeronLanyon · 31/10/2020 07:18

Support wing. Really sorry that this is adding to your grief. I most both parents just before Covid and can’t imagine worrying about that in top of everything else.

As for worrying about Christmas op - if you can try your best to rethink things - this Christmas will be full of compromises and difficulties for us all. I’m planning now to see no one but my dp, have some boxed sets and games in, and as for food drink I’m not relying on anything specific - if it has to be beans on toast (?!) then it will be the best bloody beans on toast we’ve ever had. X
Anything better than worst case scenario will be a massive bonus. There will be other gatherings possible in future. Maybe a midsummer ‘Christmas’ 2021 ??

Nailgirl · 31/10/2020 07:30

@YuckYuckTea

Schools won't and shouldn't close.
They said that in March. They will if teachers and their families are infected and they need to be off school.
Racoonworld · 31/10/2020 07:32

I can’t do another lockdown. I had a baby in summer and have just got back a tiny bit of normality meeting friends occasionally. We have no family to help. I can’t have no help at all now I already suffer from mental health issues I won’t survive this.

JacketPotatoQueen · 31/10/2020 07:34

@hollywoodhills

It's just going to be so cold, dark and miserable.

I think during the first lockdown we were all in shock and wanted to do whatever we could to control the virus. The sun was out and we thought of new ways to entertain ourselves.

Now we realize it's not going away anytime soon and this is how things will be for a long time. People will refuse to be kept at home. This lockdown will not be as effective as the first.

I think you are right. It is people not following the relevant tier guidelines already that has led to this, but the reason they are not complying is because they don’t believe in it anymore - and I think that unless the lockdown rules are enforced (not sure how, but anyway), people will not take much notice of them. Which will lead to a longer lockdown in the long run and more economic devastation. I am more worried about that than anything.
ukgift2016 · 31/10/2020 07:39

Complete and utter joke. What about all the life's lost to mental health? To the flu? To undetected/untreated cancer?

Shame on the government. Also I don't see any hospitals being overrun, they have always been brimming to capacity. This was a disaster waiting to happen.

I certainly have lost my goodwill in following the coranvirus rules. Fuck you.

CallmeFP · 31/10/2020 07:41

I think it’s the right thing to do, yes it’ll be rough on people’s livelihoods but and this is a genuine question, what is the alternative to those who are complaining about a lockdown?

CallmeFP · 31/10/2020 07:42

Will ‘support bubbles’ still be allowed in lockdown?

nosswith · 31/10/2020 07:45

Half a lockdown, after people have all been out and about in half term, when it would have been more practical to do as Wales and Northern Ireland have done, or much of Scotland.

Late again as the worst Prime Minister of all time as form for.

WingBingo · 31/10/2020 07:46

Thanks @HeronLanyon. It’s an awful time, and I really want to give my mum a proper send off. I’m finding it hard to grieve so I know the service will help.

CallmeFP · 31/10/2020 07:48

Agree that the half term lock down would have been better than this. Does really think it’ll be lifted on 1st Dec?

I read yesterday that they’re planning on letting people mix for a couple of days over Xmas.

CallmeFP · 31/10/2020 07:49

@WingBingo that’s awful, my thoughts are with you Flowers

Alarae · 31/10/2020 07:55

My birthday is this month and I was planning on spending an extended weekend down where my family lives and taking my 8 month old daughter. Due to distance/'rona, they haven't actually seen her much so I was excited for them to see her as she is doing so much more now.

Got worried about everything so moved my weekend up from 14th to 7th. Was going to be this weekend but my DH vetoed as it would be her first Halloween.

I know it is for the good of the country overall, but I will be devastated if I can't travel down this Friday. I've (personally) had a hidious time during lockdown with probable PND exacerbated by not being able to see family, and was really looking forward to this trip.

I hate it.

Powerof4 · 31/10/2020 07:59

I don’t care about Christmas. I do care about seeing friends little and often. I’m gutted they didn’t go for a short circuit breaker. And can’t believe the university that drove up cases in my area is still open and still expecting me too work face to face.

AlecTrevelyan006 · 31/10/2020 08:05

It’s a complete waste of time and will only further damage an already fragile economy

Many more people will lose their jobs. The long term damage we are inflicting upon ourselves is madness

lazylump72 · 31/10/2020 08:12

We will cope ..all of us.We have no choice..We are all stronger than we can imagine and we can do this . Thats what I will be telling myself..might even get to the stage where i believe it if I tell myself often enough!

Lovemusic33 · 31/10/2020 08:16

I was up late last night so heard it last night, does look like it will happen, schools, unis and nursery’s to stay open, non essential shops, gyms etc to close. Guessing we won’t be able to mix households, hoping we can still have bubbles if a single parent or carer (I need my mum to help with dd who is severely autistic). It’s not a huge shock, not much will change for me, I will still have to go to work as I’m a front line worker, I don’t eat out and I can live without going to shops. I’m just glad schools will be open.

Lovemusic33 · 31/10/2020 08:17

@CallmeFP

Will ‘support bubbles’ still be allowed in lockdown?
I really hope so
KaptainKaveman · 31/10/2020 08:18

@FixTheBone

Welcome to today....

It's a sad indictment of UK media that this is the first time you've caught wind of it.

It should have happened 3 weeks ago, as it is, we're roughly where we were at the last peak and it's going to get worse for another fortnight to 4 weeks after the lock down begins.

It's not a 'sad indictment of the media' - the media has been reporting as usual. It's Government policy.
WouldBeGood · 31/10/2020 08:20

I can’t see many people complying this time.

Classicbrunette · 31/10/2020 08:22

Maybenexttime08 we are supposed to be completing on a house in Wales end of November too. I wonder what will happen. It’s all emails, so it shouldn’t affect the process, but when it comes to collecting the keys, surely it’s a good excuse and it’ll be allowed. We are moving the furniture ourselves, and we have nothing to sell.

Another lockdown will be crucifying for some companies, it’s all very worrying. I think the short sharp intermittent lockdowns will help the virus to stay under control.
