Following from another thread really...

https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.bristolpost.co.uk/news/bristol-news/bristol-areas-ranked-worst-coronavirus-4637950.amp

Why, if Bristol has such high rates, is it still in tier one? Maybe because surrounding areas are lower.... but wouldn't that be a reason to increase the tier to stop other areas increasing?

I'm so confused as to reasoning why Hmm

Lots of grandparents still collecting from school here

Not really surprising when a lot of wrap around care and after school clubs have not reopened.

Keepdistance · 31/10/2020 11:39

Our before/after clubs are open though. But obviously does increase mixing year groups etc and risk to everyone (but as does close mixing with everyone's grandparents)

But what do you expect people to do? They need to work, the bills don't stop because of COVID. You can't blame parents for seeking childcare elsewhere when school facilities aren't available.

I think the message is finally getting through that the best way to get back to economic stability is by getting on top of this. Money is cheap, the bonds market will provide and get most countries through this, but we have to get to manageable level of cases first. It will all come down to an effective track and trace infrastructure and proper governance.

Re: unís

This week, UWE recorded a rise of 53 cases on Monday, 35 on Tuesday, 43 on Wednesday and 45 on Thursday.

In comparison, the University of Bristol recorded 32 cases on Monday, 52 on Tuesday, 46 on Wednesday and 45 on Thursday.

Between 350-400 casas in the uni this week!

With those figures, it indicates the virus is pretty widely circulating in the wider population. The figures for Bristol have been at least 200 cases per day in the last week. On covid messenger the most recent figure is from October 26th and Bristol recorded 288 cases.

Rather concerning re sw bed capacity. Surely not correct they will run out next week excluding surge etc!

from DM:
Professor Chris Whitty said that many of the areas with lower case numbers have the highest rates of increase.

He also warned: 'Some areas including the South West are likely to get pressure on beds really relatively early because of the way the NHS is constructed in those areas.'
