Following from another thread really...

https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.bristolpost.co.uk/news/bristol-news/bristol-areas-ranked-worst-coronavirus-4637950.amp

Why, if Bristol has such high rates, is it still in tier one? Maybe because surrounding areas are lower.... but wouldn't that be a reason to increase the tier to stop other areas increasing?

I'm so confused as to reasoning why Hmm

There are several bank buildings there. But i imagine many are wfh. However some likely have air con etc and open plan.

SmileEachDay · 28/10/2020 16:30

Apparently Bristol is now in Tier 1+

@Keepdistance

According to my drs most the cases near me are staff at the university, as it's only 20 mins drive and cheaper than Bristol it makes sense that the lower income staff who typically can't work from home are catching it.

Omg reading that twitter feed.

So were tier 1, but that's actually tier 3, but that means we're actually tier 3+ and tier 3 are actually tier 5.

They might create a tier 4 ... but that already exists in Scotland.

I should have studied harder in algebra.

SmileEachDay · 28/10/2020 16:56

I’m assuming- as someone on the Twitter thread said, that it’s so they can move areas into tier 3 without the financial backing.

This was from yesterday, says 33 cases in Bristol hospitals and 9 in Bath

Sorry 55? On Tues...

@PicsInRed

Anecdotally, Bristol had "something" nasty - similar to covid - sweep through late last year. Who knows.
I had that thing, as did my children and grandad. In January.

It floored me for several months. My throat was bleeding from coughing, I was regularly wetting myself (properly, not a tiny bit) from the coughing. Stabbing pains in my chest. Trouble with breathing and coughing 6 months later. My heart palpitations have increased since and my bad hips have got considerably worse, my lungs are still not entirely better. My grandad (in his 80s) was very ill for a month with it. Kids fine, as was my boyfried, after 3/4 days of a slight cough... I'm convinced that that 'something' was covid.

It's because the university is testing all staff and students, so the numbers look high. It's not really spread that far out of the uni population; which is little consolation to me as I'm a student there Grin. The measures in place are not enforced and frequently ignored, so it's spreading rappidly.

Hugosmugo · 28/10/2020 18:47

I wonder what they can do to help? Can they pump some money in to some mass testing? Tier 1+ seems ridiculous.

Hugosmugo · 28/10/2020 18:49

I realise my idea is ridiculous about testing. I ordered home testing last Tuesday and didn't get the results until Saturday!

Apparently now the gov are denying having these plus levels. OK.

Same as Oxford they are not just looking at the rate and it’s mostly students , but we are on the cusp I think .

Flev · 28/10/2020 19:21

I really hope it's different for you guys, but I'm in Nottinghamshire and pretty much everything you're saying now is what we were saying 3 weeks ago. Numbers in the city have now come down massively (particularly the students) , but it has spread widely into the community. So we're heading into tier 3 on Friday, with a whole host of additional restrictions on top of the main national ones.

Good old Bristol post describes tier one plus as :

But Covid marshals, enhanced contact tracing, and “targeted actions” will be introduced as additional measures to remind individuals, families and organisations of the need to follow the rules and be scrupulous about social distancing, handwashing and mask-wearing.

PicsInRed · 28/10/2020 19:37
I remember that. I wonder if samples were ever tested to confirm norovirus, or if it was assumed? It went through my one's school like wildfire.
Keepdistance · 28/10/2020 19:43

Have you had any covid cases in the school?

As the backwell junior in my other link hasnt had any as far as i can see. (The secondary has and other secondaries but there havent been large outbreaks found...

kungfupannda · 28/10/2020 19:50

@Orangeblossom7777

2 emails from our Bath school about cases in last two weeks, nothing before. To talk of 'plus' here yet it seems though!
I suspect we have kids in the same school @Orangeblossom7777 ...
hettie · 28/10/2020 19:53

Very likely Bristol will be heading for tier 3 by xmas if it spreads out from students. Not going to do much for town/gown relationships is it. The universities will have to do a lot of work to get residents to be supportive given rates were low before students returned....

OverTheRainbow88 · 28/10/2020 19:56

I do think we should ban indoor mixing here. Until
It gets more under Control again

notevenat20 · 28/10/2020 20:22

What does tier 1+ mean exactly?

OverTheRainbow88 · 28/10/2020 20:24

@notevenat20

Covid marshals, enhanced contact tracing, and “targeted actions” will be introduced as additional measures to remind individuals, families and organisations of the need to follow the rules and be scrupulous about social distancing, handwashing and mask-wearing.

ScrapThatThen · 28/10/2020 20:41

Our Bristol school has had at least four positive tests in recent weeks.
