You’ve kept schools open for a term, by and large. You’ve dealt with thousands of children coming back from a massive disruption. You’ve supported parents and families who feel vulnerable. You’ve rewritten the curriculum to account for the lost time - as far as you can. You’ve dealt with longer days; shorter breaks; so much extra cleaning. Some of you have had PPE that makes teaching hard. Some of you have had no PPE, which makes teaching riskier. You’ve had double the workload, providing online resources as well as in school teaching.

Schools have been open and that’s down to you.

Another lovely thread thanking teachers. (The other one was offering to buy drinks!) Enjoy your half term breaks. Well earned and thank you.

Thanks SmileEachDay ! Much appreciated.
It’s been (mostly) a pleasure, but with many frustrations, and very tiring. A bit scary too, but that normalises after a bit.

Crunchymum · 23/10/2020 19:07

Well done teachers and all the staff who have made this happen.

Sadly its only half a term down though. Not sure where we'll be come Christmas Shock

Flowerpot345 · 23/10/2020 19:08

Totally agree with you OP.
Thank you Flowers

A massive well done to all teachers. You have been incredible this half term. The progress my children have made in such a short time since their return, is simply amazing. My children have loved being back at school and I am so grateful for all your hard work.

MadisonAvenue · 23/10/2020 19:20

What a lovely thread, my son is just digging into a great big takeaway after completing his first half term of teaching. Not the start to his career that he envisaged and he’s exhausted but the enthusiasm he has for teaching is inspiring and he’s said that the students have been amazing, very willing to learn and just glad to be back in school.

Thank you teachers Flowers

SmileEachDay · 23/10/2020 19:25

It’s not just teachers - I’m sorry! It’s every member of staff in school - caretakers, TAs, receptionists, administrators, pastoral staff, cleaners...

School staff have done an amazing thing. I hope they do not continue to be let down by the DfE and government.

Completely agree OP!

I wish I could tell my DD’s teacher how much I appreciate what she has done. But she would think I was an OTT weirdo and probably start avoiding me Grin

Washpot · 23/10/2020 19:29

Thank you! This is a thread I needed to read.
Wine is being opened tonight!

Eccle80 · 23/10/2020 19:30

I agree, all three of my kids’ schools have done a great job, and they have all really enjoyed the school year so far. I know it must be difficult for all school staff

SmileEachDay · 23/10/2020 19:30

But she would think I was an OTT weirdo and probably start avoiding me grin

She wouldn’t.

I’d encourage you to email her - directly or via the office. Copy in the head. She’ll appreciate it, for sure.

Completely agree. I was desperate to get DS back to school, he really suffered in lockdown. He has been back to his normal happy self since starting back at school. The teachers and staff have been wonderful, keeping us all updated and reassured in these difficult times. There have been 2 cases of Covid in pupils, not DS's bubble so he's been lucky to have had a full half term at school. The school have dealt with it brilliantly. Thank you teachers.

pastandpresent · 23/10/2020 19:33

Yes, thank you, all the teachers at my dc's school, and all the teachers on MN.
Hope you all have a lovely break.

Nellodee · 23/10/2020 19:34

Thank you. Honestly, no matter how we fret and worry on here, it's an amazing job. Your kids make us laugh, make us see the world through fresh eyes, ask us curious questions we'd never even thought about, and yes, they sometimes make us pull our hair out, but they always make us feel like we're doing something that matters.

PrincessButtockUp · 23/10/2020 19:34

Yes, thank you to all of you and in addition, special thanks to those who have helped children moving from one setting to another, moving up key stages and having lots of new things to get to grips with.

Neverwrestlewithapig · 23/10/2020 19:35

This is such a lovely post ☺️ We really care about our pupils and their families so it’s wonderful to feel appreciated. Now it’s time for a very brief rest before we go again!
