You’ve kept schools open for a term, by and large. You’ve dealt with thousands of children coming back from a massive disruption. You’ve supported parents and families who feel vulnerable. You’ve rewritten the curriculum to account for the lost time - as far as you can. You’ve dealt with longer days; shorter breaks; so much extra cleaning. Some of you have had PPE that makes teaching hard. Some of you have had no PPE, which makes teaching riskier. You’ve had double the workload, providing online resources as well as in school teaching.

Schools have been open and that’s down to you.

This is nice. My teacher daughter has come home absolutely shattered tonight. She has been covering all sorts for people off sick, moving around from class to class lugging stuff with her and solving all sorts of problems.

It is so great to read something lovely about teachers.

Yes, a big thank you! This is my first experience of the school world as my son started reception this year. Every morning he’s been greeted with a smile, and every afternoon that smile is still there. He’s had the most fantastic start to school and I’m so grateful.

Love this thread. I sent an email to DD's school yesterday saying pretty much this. No matter how people felt about going back, an amazing job has been done of welcoming the children back and providing them with happy and fulfilling school days.

U8myufo · 23/10/2020 22:06

I agree, hats off to all you teachers. You are appreciated Wine

Meercatmama · 23/10/2020 22:12

Thank you so much
This thread is so up lifting but credit also needs to go my wonderful children who have been so enthusiastic and a delight to teach. Everyday we work together they tell me what they don't understand or have missed I go back and adjust my teaching. These young children are a credit to us in the way they have adapted and moved forward. They make my day every day as they bounce into school. As tired as I am I am looking forward to the next half term with the young people who lift my soul every day and make me forget the depressing bigger picture. A big clap for the kids.

elephantoverthehill · 23/10/2020 22:19

Yes the students have been, on the whole wonderful and engaged and glad to be back at school, however teachers, students, cleaners, site staff, office staff, LSAs, mentors and students are completely knackered and need half term. Hurrah it's here.

elephantoverthehill · 23/10/2020 22:20

Did I mention students twice? Wonder at the job I do.

caringcarer · 23/10/2020 22:23

Yes thank you school staff. My sons school has not had to close once. They have online learning on place just in case as well.

wondersun · 23/10/2020 22:31

@SmileEachDay

But she would think I was an OTT weirdo and probably start avoiding me grin

She wouldn’t.

I’d encourage you to email her - directly or via the office. Copy in the head. She’ll appreciate it, for sure.

This is very true 💐 In writing / email makes the thanks seem even more special somehow I think 🖊 👩🏾‍💻 😃

Yes, well done teachers.
In particular for
-providing both real life and online education when half the year are in school and half isolating
-dealing with behavioural problems from kids like my ds who have struggled to settle back in.
Hope you all get a well deserved half term break.

3littlewords · 23/10/2020 22:40

I emailed my dc teachers to thank them for the half term agree with other PP that we also need to congratulate our children for adapting so well to the many changes in school just rolling with it and still being happy at the end of the day thriving being back in school.
My ds10 had a period of isolation during the term, the teacher and school was incredible switching to online learning it didn't feel like they were missing out on education at all without the workload being overwhelming. As they were the only year group to "burst" they were the guinea pigs for the back up online learning, from my view both teacher and children did incredible in such unknown circumstances.

TheHouseonHauntedHill · 23/10/2020 22:40

Yes it's all staff on the school site!
I agree fabulous work this term..in mostly less than ideal conditions.

LilacCandle · 23/10/2020 22:41

Yes, thank you teacher. Flowers I appreciate all you've done

LilacCandle · 23/10/2020 22:42

Teachers not teacher

HipTightOnions · 23/10/2020 22:42

Lovely thread, thank you. It’s been pretty shit at times, but most of the kids have been so sensible and positive. When you can put the worry out of your head, it’s fantastic to be back in the classroom.

IncidentsandAccidents · 23/10/2020 22:46

A huge thanks to all teachers and school staff. You have opened up our children's worlds again and it's hard to put into words just how grateful I am for that. Have a great half term 💐
