@TeeniefaeTroon you're restricted meeting into other households even in tier zero. Hmm

HeyAllYouCoolCatsAndKittenz · 28/10/2020 08:36

north lanarkshire(motherwell area) here aswell i think 3 or 4.

Plump82 · 28/10/2020 08:39

@TeeniefaeTroon

I was right , we're in Tier 1, however not allowed into other households so not really tier 1?? 🤔
Has the Tiers been released?

Unfortunately, the government spent the summer focusing on a delusional elimination strategy instead of preparing for the second wave by increasing hospital and testing capacity and improving test and trace.

Totally agree. The worst thing about all this is the (further) division being caused in society by the demonising of certain groups doing something the speaker disagrees with...people going to their mate's house for a cup of covid tea, school children and uni students doing their disgusting mingling, those feckless and probably smelly people using public transport...These people, and all of us, may well be transmitting the virus because that's how viruses spread. But we can't be prevented from living life. So the government needed to work on ways of mitigating the damage that the virus causes by increasing NHS capacity (allowing the rest of its services to carry on) and by ensuring that people who are infectious, as far as can be identified, don't come into contact with others. But they seem to have failed at that (as have many other governments, I'm not bashing Scotland here particularly) so they are encouraging the "divide and conquer" thing, rather than bringing us all together which worked pretty well in March.

The indicators paper here says the levels areas need to get into each of the 5 levels. (it's near the end). For Edinburgh ginky it looks like we "fail" on the % of positive tests criteria, though we're pretty close to the lower case number there (75 per 100,000...I think we're 80something now). Though I'm wondering if that has only been put in as a panicked "how can we justify putting Edinburgh in the same level as Glasgow" indicator.

I've heard this said a few times. Where does this come from? I thought in level 1 you could meet indoors, 6 people from 2 households? What's the point of the level system at all if they can change bits of it on a whim ?!
dementedpixie · 28/10/2020 09:11

Does this not say indoors allowed at level 1?

Scotland - 5 Tiers, where do you think you'll be?
dementedpixie · 28/10/2020 09:13

www.gov.scot/publications/coronavirus-covid-19-protection-levels/pages/protection-level-1/ although this says that at times they could restrict indoors too

NotAnActualSheep · 28/10/2020 09:35

Yes, but a few people now have said that anyone going into level 1 on Monday won't be allowed indoor household meetings, and I was just wondering if someone "important" has said that in the past few days?! (Rather than it just being a possibility). I've not seen it reported anywhere other than here. And I realise I may be spreading fake news by worrying about it...sorry!

Ecosse · 28/10/2020 09:39

@NotAnActualSheep

Yes, Sturgeon said during her speech yesterday that any areas that move into level 1 will still have a ban on household visiting.

dementedpixie · 28/10/2020 09:41

So if they go from 2 to 1 they still have to stay outdoors?

Ah, thank you! That'll teach me not to listen to the actual briefings...Halloween Grin

Ecosse · 28/10/2020 09:48

@dementedpixie

Yep, I believe alcohol will be permitted indoors with a meal at level 2 (and outdoors without a meal).

Indoor alcohol without a meal will not be available until level 1.

Stuckinnow · 28/10/2020 10:00

It's beyond belief that the govt think they can tell people when they can have a drink - not at all/ only with a meal etc. It's unreal how quickly we have accepted this level of control and being treated like kids.

MadameBlobby · 28/10/2020 10:02

The whole thing is ridiculous. I really hope businesses stand up to all this shite. She’d be better keeping places closed than all this rubbish.

Completely agree. And if you say that you don't accept this level of control and being told how to live your life in minute detail, you're a Covidiot, conspiracy theorist, half-wit who wants to murder everyone's granny.

Sick of it. What is "risky" about DH and I going out for lunch next week and one of us having a glass of wine?

MadameBlobby · 28/10/2020 10:15

She’s always had a thing about alcohol hence why we had the minimum pricing too. Don’t get me wrong, I didn’t really oppose that, as it was madness that kids could buy large amounts of cheap alcohol for pennies. But preventing people having a couple of drinks in a bar or restaurant is beyond ridiculous now. Meanwhile house parties with large amounts of booze being sunk continue.

Agree completely with all of this. She was just so desperate to do a Jacinda and it failed because it was never going to work. The majority of us spent 6 months doing what we were supposed to do and they did not return the favour.

Now I know very few people who are complying to the letter but when they’re telling you that you’re responsible for their fuck ups you can see how fatigue sets in.

I do think with the alcohol think there is a large puritan element about it

I have yet to see any evidence that having a glass of wine with dinner is more risky from a Covid perspective

Is there any such evidence ?

Total shambles as far as I can see

RaspberryCoulis · 28/10/2020 13:26

There's a puritan element to all of it. No fun, no frivolity, no celebrating. Just sit in the house and be grateful that you're not dead.

It's all very IM Jolly.

rookiemere · 28/10/2020 13:41

I'm maybe understanding this incorrectly but I think if Edinburgh is in Tier 3 that means we aren't meant to holiday in other parts of Scotland, but as it stipulates normal quarantine rules apply , I could still travel abroad?
I'm not allowed to carry forward holiday into 2021 so forced to take a week off in November, I'd be happy enough with a Scottish cottage and hot tub but don't think I'd be able to.

NotAnActualSheep · 28/10/2020 13:47

Precisely user. I don't think the wine or no wine thing has any scientific backing... Its just they want to discourage people from meeting in hospitality venues, and by forbidding alcohol with lunch, it makes it less appealing to meet there. Remember we were told off by NS for cramming into cafes in the central belt last week... because they weren't open for us to use... just to give people living on their own somewhere to meet a friend for a quick coffee. Halloween Hmm. It's quite obvious she didn't really want anywhere open at all where some fun could be had, but feared the discrimination backlash.

I don't think there's anything in the "forgetting to socially distance once you've had a few" argument. People don't generally get trollied over lunch, and everything will be closed after 6pm anyway for serious evening drinkers. I do think it encourages people just to have friends over for a meal at home, with as much wine as you want, though. And there definitely won't be social distancing there.

PJFlasks · 28/10/2020 15:52

Today's stats show lower case numbers that last Wednesday... bet that'll make zero difference as far as relaxing any restrictions go. Only 3 new cases in the Borders today, wonder if she'll make it T1 there (I doubt it).

I'd double check that as there was a change to the law for holidays & you can carry over a maximum of 4 weeks into the next 2 years
