@Fortherosesjoni70 I think we might have to accept that we cannot prevent Covid spreading to some degree and unfortunatley, that will cause some deaths. Shutting everything down is much worse in the long term. The stats do show the virus overwhelming is a disease of the very old and very sick. Yes there are some exceptions and obviously, we don't want people to die if avoidable. But we permit other deaths by way of a balance of life and risk. The current restrictions will bring far, far worse hardship IMO.

Not really sure very much has shut down?
I work in a school. Its not shut.
I can go to the shops. They are not shut.
I cant go inside and visit people. That is a pain but its not going to last forever.
You cant go to pubs. Well its the price to be paid for keeping schools open.
The hospital is still open. It just takes longer. I can still go to the doctor. It takes longer.
I was listening to Dr John Campbell on you tube. Six months and its looking incredibly encouraging that most of us will be vaccinated by then if we chose to be. This is the Astrazenica one.

Fortherosesjoni70 · 27/10/2020 21:29

Some people may be vaccinated by New Years eve.

Fortherosesjoni70 · 27/10/2020 21:29

Seemingly incredibly effective in all ages.

waitforitwaitforit · 27/10/2020 22:01

You can't go to work in a pub. You can't pay your mortgage. You can't feed your children.

dementedpixie · 27/10/2020 22:07

Plus if you're put in Tier 4 non essential shops/retail, gyms, hairdressers, beauty places are all set to close too.

Vonvon222 · 27/10/2020 22:17

Seems like they are making this shit up as they go. What’s the point!

I’ve lost my job, my DS tested positive at the weekend having probably caught it working in a busy pub in the Highlands where it seems the rest of Scotland have been holidaying! The 1 job I applied for I have an interview that I now can’t attend due to having to isolate for 14 fucking days!!

Had enough now and have taken to bed the past 2 days as what’s the fucking point getting up 🥺

Fortherosesjoni70 · 27/10/2020 22:20

Well yes, sadly some people have lost their jobs including my son. But what i was saying was that not everything is closed. Yes tier 4 will see the close of those other things but its meant to be a short term measure.
dementedpixie · 27/10/2020 22:24

These short term measures seem to end up being more longer term than expected!

TheDaydreamBelievers · 27/10/2020 22:29

I would say GGC will be a 3. Lanarkshire a 4 in short term.

Fortherosesjoni70 · 27/10/2020 22:54

Yes. You are right!
dementedpixie · 27/10/2020 22:55

Fuck, I dont want to be a 4 Sad

Fortherosesjoni70 · 27/10/2020 22:57

Im in GGC but our cases in Local Authority are growing, not falling.

ssd · 27/10/2020 22:58

We are teir 3

NearWildHeaven · 27/10/2020 22:59

I am resigned to being a 4 now. I’ve heard how busy the hospitals are and it’s all quite worrying.

dementedpixie · 27/10/2020 23:01

I don't want dh working from home again. I like it when he's not in my way

Raffleyourdoughnut · 27/10/2020 23:12

I'm in Glasgow so hopefully we stay in level 3. It just goes to show that we can have Christmas with family if we all do the right thing and follow the rules.

The reason we are in the position we are is people being selfish and not behaving. People are being so short sighted. This isn't the worst thing that will happen to them. I've lost 9 people I knew and cared about, and people are complaining they can't go for a drink? Given scotland's terrible health record and levels of alcoholism surely this is a good thing.

The number of people I've see not social distancing or wearing mask. I understand that some people are exempt but surely not as many as I see every time I go out.

I know I'm in the minority who has stuck to the rules, it's shit but we can make it better for ourselves.

Wacadu · 27/10/2020 23:19

West Lothian - probably 3

RaspberryCoulis · 27/10/2020 23:22

That's all total bollocks though. All this "be good and Nicola will reward you with Christmas". We are where we are because there is a virus and no vaccine. We cannot shut society down until there is a vaccine. People need to work, go to school, go to uni, move around. The virus will spread.

Plus as well if you buy into the line that the spread is because of naughty people not doing what Queen Nic tells them, that's the perfect government get out clause. Not our fault, nothing to do with our management or policies. It was ALL down to naughty people having parties. Hmm

MadameBlobby · 27/10/2020 23:25

The reason we are in the position we are is people being selfish and not behaving

Of course. Nothing to do with schools and unis going back.

Ecosse · 27/10/2020 23:47

The reason we are in the position we are is people being selfish and not behaving.

No, we are in this position because we are in a global pandemic with a seasonal virus. Cases were always bound to increase as we head into winter.

Unfortunately, the government spent the summer focusing on a delusional elimination strategy instead of preparing for the second wave by increasing hospital and testing capacity and improving test and trace.

They also seem to have learned no lessons from their failure to protect the vulnerable in March. Care homes are again bearing the brunt because testing is unavailable or too slow. Home carers are still not being tested on a regular basis.

I find it astonishing that we are still planning on the basis of just 2000 available beds for COVID patients. The summer should have been spent maximising bed and staff capacity.

MadameBlobby · 27/10/2020 23:54

I agree @Ecosse

And despite being told all this was to protect the old and vulnerable that turns out not to have been true either given care homes and the Sunday Times story.

So again, what is all this for?

DatingDickheads · 28/10/2020 00:45

Edinburgh and I believe she will keep it the same as Glasgow. It shouldn’t be!

Ginkypig · 28/10/2020 01:49

@DatingDickheads

Edinburgh and I believe she will keep it the same as Glasgow. It shouldn’t be!
According to the bbc tool

Glasgow City
Find out more about the restrictions in your area

322 cases per 100,000 people in the latest week 18 Oct-24 Oct

City of Edinburgh
Find out more about the restrictions in your area

89 cases per 100,000 people in the latest week 18 Oct-24 Oct

The average area in Scotland had 92.

That’s a big difference @DatingDickheads I wonder what the actual criteria and data triggers different tiers

TeeniefaeTroon · 28/10/2020 08:23

I was right , we're in Tier 1, however not allowed into other households so not really tier 1?? 🤔
