Covid

Stricter measures than ever before. Wales to restrict what supermarkets can sell.

We didn't have that in the "first wave". Despite some confusion, it was perfectly OK for essential shops to also sell non-essentials, and for customers to purchase them on the same visit as doing essential shopping. Now, in Wales, it's not OK, the stated reason being "fairness" to small businesses.

I think this could be a first sign of things to come. I fully expect measures at least as strict as, and possibly stricter than, what we saw in March. And I expect local to become regional to become national. Because anything less just isn't keeping Covid-19 under control.

If Drakefords argument was to 'level the playing for smaller shops' why is amazon still open?

So we're moving into winter. None of my kids have warm coats, boots, or any winter wear particularly. How can they say clothing isn't essential.

@RedToothBrush Exactly!! This is not helping small businesses! This is power mad virtue signalling at its most confused!

Layer after shitty layer of pointless rules undermines the purposeful ones and drain people of good will and patience.

Agree, people are past the point of caring and that is because the rules change regularly, nothing is justified and they don't even follow their own rules.

‘It’s only for 17 days”. Do you actually believe that? Sturgeon said the same about the 2 week restrictions in the central
belt

So
You now have a government telling you what you can buy in shops? Enough!!!!!

Yeah close eBay and Amazon.

Cmon Nicola and Drakeford. Do it

Let’s see you take them on 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

I have literally lost all will to follow it all.
My dad passed away 8 weeks ago and if Drakeford thinks i'm having a "Digital" Christmas with my mum then he can stick his firebreak up his A-hole!

@RedToothBrush
Small businesses are allowed to operate delivery services if they wish to do so, so it would be unfair to treat amazon differently to small businesses in the home delivery sector.

@halcyondays

I don’t think so, it says they won’t be able to sell items like clothes. Not sure that many Welsh Tesco’s would have dry cleaning and travel agents.

Aren’t children’s clothes classed as essential, they don’t have VAT, while adult clothes do? Although don’t think many people can make their clothes last from 18-98.

This made me laugh. I live in Wales and work for Tesco and yes, we do have these things.

This might come as a surprise but in Wales we like to go on holidays and have clothes that need to be dry cleaned. You make us sound like a third world country!

Also I'm unclear as to how 'essential' Tesco items are magically less infectious than 'non-essential' Tesco items? Is a copy of Closer inherently more Covid-ridden than a tin of baked beans?

Sorry to pick on this particular poster, but I'm so sick of hearing disingenuous comments like this. Obviously a tin of beans doesn't have any special antiviral qualities, but the fewer items people are allowed to buy, the less time they will spend in the store and the fewer people they will come into contact with while they are there.

I don't think the situation has been handled perfectly by any means, but between "normal life" and total lockdown there has to be some sort of a middle ground which means some things will be permissible while others aren't.

Just close the stores then so we’ll spend no time in there at all

No, everyone will receive a ration book with coupons for essential items & a bar of chocolate twice a week!
Needless to say no alcohol or pants... except for day #16!

If Drakeford carries on like this, he’s going to cripple Wales.

Already one of the most deprived areas of the UK.

Now taking stronger steps in decimating the economy than any other areas.

And it’s not as if the Sennedd even have any money to pay for it!

He's just doing it "because I can" now - there is no sense in this and no one believes that the rules will relax in 17 days time

Watching this space for Drakeford to make Amazon illegal in Wales and impose a fine for those caught receiving deliveries.

Couldn’t make this stuff up.

Lipstick. Omg Helena. How non essential. 😂😂😂

It will be ripped from your shopping basket and sent flying back to the non essential aisles of non essential things

@DonLewis

How are clothes not essential though? My ds needs a new coat. I've put off going, because I don't especially like shopping, but I did pop into the primark I pass on my way to work to look for one and couldn't find one in his size.

I'd say a warm winter coat that fits is pretty essential!

Well, not for the next two weeks when you're meant to be staying home 🤣

Is a kettle essential? A book? Some pencils? Better use?

The
