Covid

Stricter measures than ever before. Wales to restrict what supermarkets can sell.

We didn't have that in the "first wave". Despite some confusion, it was perfectly OK for essential shops to also sell non-essentials, and for customers to purchase them on the same visit as doing essential shopping. Now, in Wales, it's not OK, the stated reason being "fairness" to small businesses.

I think this could be a first sign of things to come. I fully expect measures at least as strict as, and possibly stricter than, what we saw in March. And I expect local to become regional to become national. Because anything less just isn't keeping Covid-19 under control.

Sure...17 days turns into 17 weeks, then 17 months...

But if the dry cleaners are closed down and the other shops are closed down. Where are we meant to go

And in Scotland we will move to stage 5 on November 2nd.

Stage fucking 5

I don’t think so, it says they won’t be able to sell items like clothes. Not sure that many Welsh Tesco’s would have dry cleaning and travel agents.

Aren’t children’s clothes classed as essential, they don’t have VAT, while adult clothes do? Although don’t think many people can make their clothes last from 18-98.

Your speculation and hyperbole is unhelpful. It IS only for 17 days. And it's to be to fair to smaller businesses who have to shut, not to do with covid spread.

Pp need to stop exaggerating and moaning.

And stage fucking 5 coming our way

This is bringing me back to the days when people on here were arguing that bread and milk weren't essential and anyone going out to buy those is a murderer. Lol. Wtf is wrong with people? I fully expect there will be studies done in the future about how people collectively lost their minds.

Sturgeon had to say on telly that Santa was an essential worker so Scottish children shouldn’t worry. They will get presents

Yes I have been to Wales, I’ve even been to a Tesco’s in Wales. Which didn’t have any of those things.

This is stupid. It is not neccessary.
I did get a kettle during lockdown from the supermarket because mine packed. I do call that essential. Same for clothes.
And what are Aldi or Lidl supposed to do? Re-organise their whole shop in one day?
This is pushing it quite a few steps too far.

I'm in Wales, what exactly can we do other than do it!

We're not happy about it but will get on with it with the hope it pans out how they want it to (I'm not convinced it will)!

This is total bollocks. As if the economy wasn't screwed enough, they're now trying to limit what we can buy. I thought this was about reducing cases, not imposing petty, unreasonable restrictions that have zero impact on that aim.

Everyone knows that the virus hangs out with the fun interesting stuff and misery is the best form of protection Hmm

So you can't buy random rubbish like tea or coffee (clearly not essential, because I don't like them and this ain't exactly the year of the guest) Clothes must be essential as if you went to the supermarket without wearing them, security would have you out befòre you could say "hypothermia".

Things do need replacing. Items wear out. Children grow. Adults change size.

Layer after shitty layer of pointless rules undermines the purposeful ones and drain people of good will and patience.

What on earty are the Welsh and Scottish leadership hoping to achieve by abusing their populace like this?

I live in wales and this is nuts!
In. the last lockdown my daughter had a massive growth spurt. She currently barely has any winter clothes that fit and I was waiting for payday,

under these guidelines you cant buy electronics if your telly breaks or your kettle goes etc

I think toys and crafting items will be deemed non essential so if your child has a birthday coming up you are screwed.

If your child breaks their winter coat or loses it you cant replace it

if your job requires tights you cant get them!

Things like DVDs and books will not be for sale

So if you are on low income and don't have the means to shop online. you are a little stuffed!

What Drakeford probably hasn't realised in his power mad frenzy is that the Amazon factory is in Swansea. Its a behemoth of a building! People will turn to amazon for everything increasing cardboard waste and making amazon busier I bet they will end up having an outbreak there!

Santa is going into houses with people with covid. He will be breaking the law as he doesn't fall under any of the current exemptions.

Just think about that and the potential he has to kill vulnerable children if he ends up being a super spreader.

Also if you leave a drink, mince pie and a carrot and a stocking out, is this you inviting him into your home and does this therefore make you liable for a fine if you leave in T2 or T3 or devolved equivalent?

Have you done a risk assessment for leaving food out for santa and whether this is a risk to him. Where is his risk assessment for covid safe working practices for coming into your home? Will he be wearing a mask cos we know the virus is airborne? Are reindeer potential carriers?

I mean the bloke is over 80 and we have to question whether he should be out at all and whether he should really be shielding.

Covid really is going to squeeze the life out of Christmas isnt it?

I think it is great, the dafter the pronouncements from the senedd the more peoples eyes will be opened to the ridiculousness of the secretive members who decide how we shall live. Mind you I do think they will regretfully tell us all that due to covid there will be no election in 2021.

Why is amazon still allowed to open if its selling non essential items? When other businesses have to close.
