Not allowed to self isolate unless told to do so by test and trace??

Is this for real? I honestly didn't realise. How messed up is this??

I'm sure that can't be right. DS and his family are self isolating because their daughter had a temperature.

CatPeach · 21/10/2020 21:04

Where have you seen this?

PurpleDaisies · 21/10/2020 21:05

Who is not allowing you to isolate?

Bjollocks · 21/10/2020 21:05

No symptoms, just been with someone who is positive. It's all on the website. Only self isolate if told to do so. If not, then it's back to work!

Feminist10101 · 21/10/2020 21:06

That’s correct. You self isolate if a household member has symptoms. Nobody will tell you.

OP, track and trace deal with contacts outside of your household. There is a defined set of rules. Only if you are contacted by them should you isolate (unless you or a household member has symptoms).

How else do you think it should work?

Bjollocks · 21/10/2020 21:06

If you've not been contacted then it doesn't count.

What website?

You’ve been less than 2m within 48 hours of someone who tested positive?

You’ll be contacted.

If not, you aren’t a contact, you don’t meet the criteria and should work as normal.

Bjollocks · 21/10/2020 21:08

I would expect that if I knew I had been in close contact that I would be allowed to self isolate, not be made to go to work.

Yes, that is correct.

It isn’t that you aren’t allowed to isolate, it’s that it’s not a legal requirement. You are supposed to take extra care with social distancing.

Are you expecting to be contacted? How long were you with the person etc?

Bjollocks · 21/10/2020 21:09

It's a contact sport. Just seems negligent.

That’s right.

Yesterday a parent nearly started a riot when they felt the 48 hours wasn’t sufficient and all children attending the group for the last 6 weeks should be sent home.

Muppets everywhere.

WunWun · 21/10/2020 21:10

Surely if you tell your work they won't want you to go in though?

Grobagsforever · 21/10/2020 21:11

Sorry you aren't getting free paid time off because you played a CONTACT SPORT during a pandemic.

Try licking ppl next time?

IF YOU MEET THE CRITERIA YOU WILL BE CONTACTED.

Criteria is 1-2m for more than 15 mins
Less than 1m for more than 1 min
Within 48 hours of the person being tested.

Is that the case for you?

IF NOT, YOU ARE NOT A CONTACT.

And why the hell are you playing contact spirts during a bloody pandemic?!

Feminist10101 · 21/10/2020 21:12

@WunWun

They won’t have any staff at all if they let people make the rules themselves.
Bjollocks · 21/10/2020 21:13

Work will not allow time off. I'm just shocked really. We know the contact tracers aren't doing a great job!

HoneyBee03 · 21/10/2020 21:13

I think I see what you mean. Does it suggest that even if I know I've been in contact with a positive case (within 2 metres for 15+ minutes) I should continue going to work until I get the call from test and trace? Thankfully I have a lovely boss who wouldn't require any sort of confirmation, but I can see how some people might be a bit stuck if they're waiting for a call.

Does it take long for test and trace to get in touch? Or is it quite fast at the moment?

Yes. Very foolish thing to carry on as if we aren’t 8 months into a global pandemic.

Yes to the first bit.

Depends on the particular cell for the second.

PurpleDaisies · 21/10/2020 21:14

That depends. Local contact tracing teams are doing an excellent jobz

esmethurst · 21/10/2020 21:17

@Feminist10101

Not true unfortunately.

A close and elderly family member recently tested positive.

The track/trace team contacted her and all they asked was whether she lived with anyone.

They didn't ask any other information.

DH and DM been in close contact with her all day every day for the 5 days prior to the positive result as they act as family 'carers'

They isolated, because of the very close contact.

But yet they never were contacted by track and trace. Because they don't live with her...

ancientgran · 21/10/2020 21:17

How would track and trace know if you don't have the app and the positive person doesn't tell them?

HoneyBee03 · 21/10/2020 21:22

@ancientgran they wouldn't. The positive person could tell people themselves though. If I got a positive test result the first thing I'd do is call my office and tell anyone I'd been close to.

Bjollocks · 21/10/2020 21:25

This isn't me btw, I've stopped all activities. This is a family member from a different household to me.

The positive person doesn't have the app. The family would definitely be a close contact of the positive case but have not been contacted and work are demanding them in. Huge company btw.
