F you Boris

There will be civil unrest in Manchester following this and I don’t blame them.

People won’t follow the rules as they have no respect for the government any more. Does anyone? Incompetence bullshit and lies.

@GetOffYourHighHorse

'Andy Burnham may look like he has been K'od but you will see the repercussions of this in the not so distant future. With one brush stroke, Boris and his cronies have just painted the whole of the north red.'

Oh I know lots of Northerners too, they all want him to shut up and get on with helping with the health crisis. He seems to be suffering from delusions of grandeur. Don't mayors tend to just cut ribbons and open new supermarkets?

Directly elected mayors with substantial powers don't, no. You seem to be confused.
Sallycinnamum · 20/10/2020 19:07

@WokesFromHome bloody well said.

Absolutely fucking disgraceful behaviour from our supposed government.

I hope come election time the north remember the shameful way they've been treated and bring the Tory party to its knees.

randomer · 20/10/2020 19:08

I don't think Manchester believes its special. But right now it is more special than say Dorset or Cornwall.

Orangeblossom7777 · 20/10/2020 19:08

What about places like Leicester (remember them?) who have been stuck with restrictions longer than anywhere else? They seem to have been forgotten while others shout louder.

ChaChaCha2012 · 20/10/2020 19:12

@Orangeblossom7777 They desperately need more help too. This is about setting a precedent for all that go into Tier 3 (Leicester are not), of which many more will in the near future.

GetOffYourHighHorse · 20/10/2020 19:12

'Grow up. Manchester is in a dangerous position. What would you rather, Manchester's hospitals being overwhelmed, more people in Manchester dying, cases increasing?'

I'd be embarrassed if I were Burnham at GM's clear lack of compliance and social distancing, I'd be working with medical experts and Government instead of holding press conferences.

Mancity100 · 20/10/2020 19:13

What did he thinks would happen? The government cant appear weak , think boris showed some back bone for once

You should be embarrassed at your posts.

Totally agree with what @Sertchgi123 said:

You clearly have no idea.

lemonsandlimes123 · 20/10/2020 19:17

Honestly the way Andy Burnham is carrying on you would think that GM is being asked to do something far more difficult that the rest of the country has ever had to deal with. Tier 3 is LESS stringent than what we all dealt with in the spring. Other areas have not moaned and demanded special treatment why on earth should Manchester be treated differently. The attitude of some of those from Manchester on this thread is interesting as it does seem to illustrate exactly that, that they do think they are somehow special and different. If it is as posters say and people are simply ignoring the rules and socialising regardless then maybe AB should focus his attention and ire on his constituents.

In June the govt gave a contract for PPE worth £32m to Pestfix, a sweet warehouse with assets of £18,000. The govt paid 75% upfront, and the delivered materials turned out to be faulty The govt has since awarded 5 additional PPE contracts to Pestfix, worth £313m. Still No PPE.

The same place as that.

MadeleineMaxwell · 20/10/2020 19:18

All those bleating for more and more money, do you know where this money is coming from?

Is it the same place it came from for all those non-existant and unusable PPE contracts the Tories bunged their mates? Maybe the ferries that didn't materialise? Or the £7k a day consultants?

GabsAlot · 20/10/2020 19:18

hes jsut trying to look after manchester what happens when even more jobs go

22m is pish

randomer · 20/10/2020 19:18

GM's clear lack of compliance and social distancing

What? Were lots of people having eye tests, shaking hands and mingling over drinks?

ChloeCrocodile · 20/10/2020 19:19

GM's clear lack of compliance and social distancing

Do you have any evidence to back this up? There are millions of reasons the cases may be higher (eg students returning to the city, fewer jobs which can be done from home). If you have any evidence of actual lower compliance or social distancing I’d love to see it.

You do realise that GM, unlike the vast majority of the country, has been subject to extra regulations since the start of August? I don't know what would be more unimpressive, you having written this post without knowing any of that or you being aware but still failing to join the dots.
randomer · 20/10/2020 19:20

re bleating.....the money could come from the savings made from Austerity ( which was never even real)

I was concerned about the national debt before covid and I’m now terrified about it! I believe the economy has to play a significant role in any decision making.

What I actually want is for him to allow hospitality to continue because I don’t believe the evidence shows it to be the cause, and this will reduce the amount of money needed.

But if he’s determined to go down the tier 3 route, we can’t just let whole sectors go under. It will cause abject poverty (which has a real impact on public health anyway) and also be very damaging to the economy in the long run.

GetOffYourHighHorse · 20/10/2020 19:21

'Honestly the way Andy Burnham is carrying on you would think that GM is being asked to do something far more difficult that the rest of the country has ever had to deal with. Tier 3 is LESS stringent than what we all dealt with in the spring. '

Exactly. Yet he advocates a national lockdown despite the infection rates are low in the SW and SE! He needs to explain why the local leaders have failed in getting the public health messsge and the need for compliance across.

ChloeCrocodile · 20/10/2020 19:21

He is! Greater restrictions than anywhere in tier 1 or 2 with less money per head than other tier 3 areas.

CrappleUmble · 20/10/2020 19:22

Low risk areas smugly telling us how low their levels are because people are so much cleverer and follow the rules is incredibly tedious and unhelpful.

Maybe we should have a mass northern trespass on the leafy southern shires lmao.

This exactly this

lemonsandlimes123 · 20/10/2020 19:23

Crapple - sorry how is that relevant to Andy Burnham's posturing over the move into Tier 3. Like many other places GM has had restrictions and now it needs further restrictions, I am not sure what your point is unless you are suggesting that because GM has already had some restrictions it shouldn't have any more? I assume that can't be your point though as that would be ridiculous.
