A positive test- my journey so far

I have really struggled to find a description of someone with CV19. So here is my story (so far). I received a positive test back this afternoon.

Friday. I went out to the pub with 3 family members from 2 households. This is significant as my adult DD who lives with me also has CV19 and this is the only time that she has left the house for 2 weeks and so it looks like that may be the transmission point. We are in a tier 1 area.

Tuesday. I wake up with a splitting headache. I am prone to sinus problems and I thought it was that. Take ibuprofen during the day which numbs but doesn't remove it. Have a really sore throat start during the day. My DD wakes up with what she describes as a cold.

Wednesday. Slight cough, mostly dry but some mucousy. Headache continues and throat is really sore. DD still has a 'cold' and a very very slight cough. I decide to order a test online- for home testing. We dont really feel ill- this is like a very mild cold.

Thursday. Feel a lot better. Throat hurts, headache continues and light coughing. Sneezing (so it must be a cold) . Regret ordering a test as we are fine. I dont think I have had a fever, had a few moment of feeling hot maybe. DD says she feels a bit hot. We dont have a thermometer to check.

Friday. I wake up with almost no smell. Still got a headache. Throat hurts (but really very mild sore throat). The post comes and no test arrives and so I book drive through test for me and DD. We have to do it ourselves in the car- I am very skeptical that I have managed to swab correctly.

Turns out the home tests had been delivered by amazon and left behind the bin!

Friday evening I feel really cold in bed (but I live in a cold house so not unusual). Still no smell back. Headache has gone

Saturday. Feel a bit tired in the morning. Sore throat has gone. Have a slight cough. Woke up with a bad headache that took hours to go. Saturday pm- feel fine- spend 3 house gardening.

Saturday evening. I receive a text/email with a positive result. 4 hours later my DD gets a positive test result.

Turns out another person who was in the pub with us also developed a 'cold' on Tuesday and is now booked for a test tomorrow. So all 3 people got symptoms on the same day. The 4th person says they may have had a cold last week ??? but they are fine now.

DD symptoms now are: slight irregular cough. Sore throat gone. Can still smell but a bit reduced. Sneezing from time to time. Odd taste in mouth.

My symptoms are now. Low level headache, slight cough, slightly tickly throat. Sneezing from time to time. No smell, reduced taste.

At this point this is like the very mildest of colds. Lets see what happens now.

@SomethingM1ss1ng thanks. I work for NHS and wear PPE all day. I only go out once per week for shopping and am very careful with hand washing etc. DP commutes into London daily via train. His colleagues have had colds (they have young children / siblings in school). It's really hard to pinpoint where. We're both very careful!

CovidClara · 23/10/2020 11:21

@LemonDrizzle44

My DP developed a stuffy nose over the weekend and was sneezing lots. By Tuesday he had no smell. No other cough or fever and felt well. He booked a test. Tuesday evening I had a slight cough (which seemed to be a usual cough I get with reflux) and slight headache.

Wednesday morning I develop a raging headache and cough is slightly worse. I went for a test.

By Thursday I woke up feeling a little achy, cough is better but still a raging headache. I took my temperature which was 38.6. It was a shock, I didn't feel hot/feverish. Besides the headache I felt well. DP mum develops lose of smell with no other symptoms and now she is being tested!

We are all still awaiting our results. Hoping I get mine back today.

Good luck, are they back yet?

So day 10 today. I can go out if not temperature

I have a cough, the cough has really only been bad for the past 3 days. I can feel my chest a bit when I breathe.
I am also massively constipated which may be because I haven't been eating much but I have a grotty stomach/bowel ache.

WFH all day and that is fine.

Thank you @LemonDrizzle44- understand it is really difficult to pinpoint - specially with using public transport etc. I/we don’t go into any confined spaces-haven’t been back to work from March. Have been working from home. Only go to woods/common etc for walks. All purchases are online. So I guess if we catch it that is from my daughter via her school.

JesusInACabbageVan · 23/10/2020 11:31

Really good to read this thread, have been umming and ahing about testing as none of us have classic symptoms but lots of the things on this thread - some headaches, really mild and very occasional cough, tight chest etc. Have just ordered tests for me, DP and DS1 (DS2 seems fine so far). Quite anxious about it all.

Has anyone had their pets showing symptoms? Our dog has had a cough for a few days, just occasional, and yesterday was throwing up and off her food. She's a bit better today but doesn't want to go for a walk (we weren't going to walk her as we're isolating, but a neighbour came to take her to help us out and she wouldn't go!)

Rowgtfc72 · 23/10/2020 12:51

Two days till were out of isolation after dd tested positive. Two days! I've now lost my sense of taste and smell. Tested and crossing fingers for a negative result.

Forgetmenot157 · 23/10/2020 13:41

Does this sound like I might have it?
Tier 1 area
Firarst evening bit of A runny nose. Next morning it's a full. Blown cold with horrible. Sore throat. Next day, cold dies down but horrible cough starts. Book a drive through test for the following day. Next day cough still bad. Evening after test I take one bite of dinner and spit it out as it tastes like metal. Later that night anything that has a strong flavour smells And tastes like metal.

Today cough has died right down just the occasional one. Smell And taste still all smells of metal. Feel much better apart from a weird asthma type feeling in my throat... Still awaiting results...

Rowgtfc72 · 23/10/2020 13:45

I had the soapy metal taste before I lost my taste completely. I can tell the difference between sweet and savoury but cant actually taste. It's more a sensation.
I thought this was a snotty sneezy cold but we'll see.

MissSmiley · 23/10/2020 20:55

My oldest son and I tested positive today
I felt dizzy yesterday and had a slight temperature and then I was sick when I got up this morning
My son (18) has lost his sense of smell, no other symptoms

Forgetmenot157 · 24/10/2020 09:48

2 days and still no results... Taste and smell a bit off but not as bas as a 2 days ago. Cough is not as bad but feel slightly breathless today like when asthma is playing up in winter.

Just need to know now either way.

Snowdrops2020 · 24/10/2020 12:05

Here's my symptoms to add to the mix:

A week/10 days of extremely blocked nose and other minor cold symptoms (nothing to make me think covid), a couple of what I thought were migraines but weirdly my migraine medication didn't work on them.

Sudden unblocking of nose and no smell or taste. At this point I went for a test which came back positive.

More severe headaches, feeling exhausted, a day of feeling like my chest was being crushed, minor cough, feeling breathless.

I'm now three weeks in or so. A lot of the symptoms have lessened but I keep getting a fast pulse and my BP is up slightly. No energy at all. Today's new symptom is sneezing fits!

A very weird illness. Be careful if you think you have "just a cold", that's what I thought... It's scary to think how many people are walking around potentially spreading it 😲

MyWedding · 24/10/2020 14:17

Thank you @Snowdrops2020. Sounds similar to my symptoms, although I am only 5 days in, but I just thought I had a cold and didn't have any of the typical symptoms. It was only because I had been in contact with a positive case and because of work why I got tested.

CovidClara · 24/10/2020 16:56

so actually day 12 today- I got it wrong yesterday. I could be out an about but I have stayed at home

Last night was the worst that I had been- I think the coughing had caused by diaphragm to hurt- I had an odd aching pain. Spent ages sitting in a hot bath-it was like childbirth

Much better today- odd cough is the only symptom left. Plus the obligatory lack of smell. My taste remained but was hampered but I think it is improving. Just dont fancy anything to eat.

My dog has valiantly sat on my chest protecting me for the last week. No cough for him.

My oldest son and I tested positive today I felt dizzy yesterday and had a slight temperature and then I was sick when I got up this morning My son (18) has lost his sense of smell, no other symptoms
Did you get it from your ex?
OP posts:
fucknuckle · 24/10/2020 20:37

like @Aragog i am 47 with Psoriatic Arthritis and am on methotrexate.

i sent my test back on thursday. i’ve had over a week of ridiculous fatigue, and last Sunday had a massive headache, temperature and worse joint pain than usual.

i’ve had a headache ever since. my nose is stuffed but not snotty. i’m still tired, my temp goes up sporadically (i run cold at around 36.5, my temp at highest was 37.8). i ordered my test kit on monday and it arrived next day. like another poster said, it was a stealth amazon delivery - they didn’t even knock on the door!

did the test thursday and sent it off. as of today, i still just feel generally shit. tired, achy, headache, thirsty. sense of smell is a little off, everything tastes weird.

wondering what my result will be - looks like other people have had the same symptoms and tested positive. i’ve been shielding since March so 2 weeks isolation if i’m positive will be a breeze...

MissSmiley · 24/10/2020 21:39

@CovidClara I assume we both caught it from my ex but my symptoms started 12 days after my DD so still within the 14 day isolation period.

I've been in bed all day today, I feel awful, achey, headachy, dizzy and my upper back hurts

Ex is still coughing lots and his oxygen is down to around 92 at times (we've got one of those meters)

MissSmiley · 24/10/2020 21:43

@fucknuckle you sound like you had very similar symptoms, my temperature was only 37.8 and only for a couple of hours

You only have to isolate for ten days from the start of your symptoms if you're positive. I tested on Thursday and got my positive result back Friday evening

I was shielded originally at the highest risk due to having had pulmonary sarcoidosis a few years ago but I persuaded my consultant to take me off the list so that I could work

janetmendoza · 24/10/2020 21:50

Unless you are still unwell MissSmiley. If you still have a temperature then you still have to isolate.

HotPatootiebootie · 24/10/2020 22:27

@Aragog

I just read your symptoms list with my heart in my mouth.

I have psa and am on metho and biological. I've had pneumonia like 7 times in three years so have been terrified of Covid. I started feeling a bit odd Wednesday , the day after my injections. Like I'm getting over off those routine sinus infections that spreads to my chest and then goes bad. I was suddenly aware of my own heart rate and my chest twinging. I thought it might be high bp from the hot tub so have stayed away for a few days but I honestly relate to so much of your post. I got tested today. My head is cotton woolly, My throat is croaky, joints just "off" and it's like my head is too heavy. Feeling hot and with cold sweats. Weird taste. Tickle cough but with mucus. My daughters school is rife with Covid so I won't be shocked.

This thread has been mega helpful. I really hope you all recover without issue.

HotPatootiebootie · 24/10/2020 22:43

I've just done y blood pressure with my husbands Monitor and I was right. I could hear my own heart beat as my blood pressure is elevated. So is my heart rate. Not as bad as a Aragog but 138/98 when it's normally around 110/70. Then my husband did his, he has a few different heart conditions and has shockingly high blood pressure that is being treated and his came out at such a high number he wouldn't let me look. I really should chase up his new no medication.

Mooseflake · 24/10/2020 23:45

Thanks for this thread, it is really informative.

I hope you're feeling better, everyone with symptoms!

Forgetmenot157 · 25/10/2020 07:58

Test came back finally after 70 hours........ Inconclusive... Hmm another test this afternoon it is... My boss is going to love me. If it takes as long for this next test to come back I will lready have done pretty much all of the 10 days self isolation since symptoms so wouldn't bother with a third test I don't think.

Have a pounding headache today aswell :( cough has pretty much gone, smell and taste still slightly off.

MonsterMashh · 25/10/2020 09:07

@Forgetmenot157 my first test came back as inconclusive, second one was positive.
