A positive test- my journey so far

I have really struggled to find a description of someone with CV19. So here is my story (so far). I received a positive test back this afternoon.

Friday. I went out to the pub with 3 family members from 2 households. This is significant as my adult DD who lives with me also has CV19 and this is the only time that she has left the house for 2 weeks and so it looks like that may be the transmission point. We are in a tier 1 area.

Tuesday. I wake up with a splitting headache. I am prone to sinus problems and I thought it was that. Take ibuprofen during the day which numbs but doesn't remove it. Have a really sore throat start during the day. My DD wakes up with what she describes as a cold.

Wednesday. Slight cough, mostly dry but some mucousy. Headache continues and throat is really sore. DD still has a 'cold' and a very very slight cough. I decide to order a test online- for home testing. We dont really feel ill- this is like a very mild cold.

Thursday. Feel a lot better. Throat hurts, headache continues and light coughing. Sneezing (so it must be a cold) . Regret ordering a test as we are fine. I dont think I have had a fever, had a few moment of feeling hot maybe. DD says she feels a bit hot. We dont have a thermometer to check.

Friday. I wake up with almost no smell. Still got a headache. Throat hurts (but really very mild sore throat). The post comes and no test arrives and so I book drive through test for me and DD. We have to do it ourselves in the car- I am very skeptical that I have managed to swab correctly.

Turns out the home tests had been delivered by amazon and left behind the bin!

Friday evening I feel really cold in bed (but I live in a cold house so not unusual). Still no smell back. Headache has gone

Saturday. Feel a bit tired in the morning. Sore throat has gone. Have a slight cough. Woke up with a bad headache that took hours to go. Saturday pm- feel fine- spend 3 house gardening.

Saturday evening. I receive a text/email with a positive result. 4 hours later my DD gets a positive test result.

Turns out another person who was in the pub with us also developed a 'cold' on Tuesday and is now booked for a test tomorrow. So all 3 people got symptoms on the same day. The 4th person says they may have had a cold last week ??? but they are fine now.

DD symptoms now are: slight irregular cough. Sore throat gone. Can still smell but a bit reduced. Sneezing from time to time. Odd taste in mouth.

My symptoms are now. Low level headache, slight cough, slightly tickly throat. Sneezing from time to time. No smell, reduced taste.

At this point this is like the very mildest of colds. Lets see what happens now.

@CovidClara this is a really interesting thread. Thank you- I hope you are recovered soon. I live and work in a area with high cases, I feel that despite precautions it's only a matter of time until I succumb

Purpleice · 19/10/2020 22:34

It’s an interesting thread. I had a three day headache with a weird runny and blocked nose, sore throat and fatigue but no other symptoms just recently. I work in primary and there were lots of kids off with ‘just a cold’ at the same time.

Fortherosesjoni70 · 19/10/2020 22:39

Please keep posting. Its very very interesting. Hope you and your family get better soon.
I think its very helpful.:) Thank you.

Rowgtfc72 · 19/10/2020 22:57

@selflove Im pretty sure I had it in Feb too.
Some days it still takes effort to get a deep breath in.

OneMoreForExtra · 19/10/2020 23:37

Thank you for starting this current thread OP and please keep posting! Reading with rather a groan as both DC and I have identical 'just a cold' symptoms to yours and I hadn't been worried, but now wondering if I should find a test...

Bool · 20/10/2020 06:28

I’m fairly certain they are aware that all the different legislation & guidelines are nonsense when read together.

Agree. Even my kids laugh at it.

dottycharlotti · 20/10/2020 07:18

Really interesting to hear your story Clara.

I tested positive on Sunday (had a test Friday) - I've been unwell for around 10 days now and it's been a myriad of symptoms of varying strength.
It started with sheer exhaustion - Sunday week I just couldn't get out of bed. It's never happened before. I had a mild cough, but barely noticeable. Monday/Tuesday I was almost back to normal so thought nothing of it, just tiredness and a slight cough every now and then.

Since Tuesday I've been worse - bad cough, chest pain, fever, wheezing, sore throat (that comes and goes!!?!?!?). My fever subsided after 3 days, but my other symptoms come in waves. Now I've got what feels like a bog standard cold - plus chest pain, aka sinus pain, congestion in the nose (which was listed as definitely not COVID), sneezing.....

Throughout though, I've not lost my sense of smell or taste at all. So not always an indication of COVID.

Keep thinking I'm turning the corner, only to relapse.

What a strange thing this is.

AuditAngel · 20/10/2020 07:57

It is really interesting to hear how many have reported a headache. In March I had a dreadful headache for 2 weeks, was taking maximum dose of Paramol (with breaks after each 3 days of taking it) and this barely touched the pain, but did allow me to function.

I was working from home, kids all off school and DH was on furlough.

At that time testing was impossible, but as I had no other symptoms, wouldn’t have qualified anyway!

CovidClara · 20/10/2020 08:24

Day 8. In some countries this would be my last day of isolation if I had no symptoms.

I wake up with a bad taste in my mouth and the very lightest of headaches. I have coughed a couple of times and the cough now has mucus- light but some mucus. It is clear/white.

Last night just before bed was the only time I have had what could be called a bout of coughing. Otherwise it is single coughs.

@CovidClara how are you today?
My second test came back negative yesterday but my DH has come back positive, he's got a lung condition and is feeling really poorly, can't stop coughing

When I asked T&T about how another positive test might affect our isolation period ending on Friday they said it wouldn't and we could all go back to work and school despite having another positive case in the house, surely that can't be right? Surely we could catch it from DH now while he's positive. I've had two negative tests despite symptoms so I can go out on Saturday apparently although it doesn't seem right

Hi I am fine. The dog is going ballistic

I am sorry that you had a negative test when your DH was positive- seems odd.

I'm waiting for test results, I feel sure it must be negative but the awful headache and aching prompted me to do a test. My friend (who I haven't seen) feels exactly the same with the terrible headache and tiredness so she has requested a test too.

If I don't have it then there's a very odd winter bug doing the rounds that's just awful headache, aches and tiredness.

MissSmiley · 20/10/2020 21:36

@CovidClara
Glad you're doing well, DH is struggling with breathlessness this evening, his GP phoned him earlier and told him if he has any more chest pains to go to A&E, not sure if I should sleep or keep an eye on him, did I mention he's my STBXH? Separated nearly four years and I'm still looking after him, he doesn't actually live here but is staying since Saturday when he got ill

NeurotrashWarrior · 21/10/2020 09:40

@Aragog

Oh my goodness how scary for you! I hope you are beginning to feel better?

Your symptoms are so concerning. From one teacher to another, also the lack of SD; I teach sen. I'm furious we don't have more, quicker and easier testing.

Lazysundayafternoons · 22/10/2020 06:44

Hope you are ok today @CovidClara

@CovidClara

Glad to hear you woke up feeling better today

Wankerchief · 22/10/2020 19:19

Been thinking about you OP, glad today has been better.

I reAlly appreciate this thread and everyone's experience with covid. Reading about you guys is a bit like putting a name to the monster if you get what I mean?
We hear so much about it but not the day to day of actually having it and I'm finding it helpful in making it make sense

Not sure how much sense that made thoughGrin

Bizzywater · 22/10/2020 20:20

Just wanted to thank you for this OP. I am on day 4. Like you started with sneezing, sore throat and a mild headache and COVID didn't cross my mind until I lost my sense of taste and smell on Monday which I am counting as day 1. Tested Monday 1.30pm and results 9am Tuesday. Test and trace came through very quickly but only asked me about the 48 hours pre symptoms for contacts but asked about the 5 days prior to that to see where I caught it. The gym or the Post Office it would seem.

It has felt like flu so far with an odd bunged up nose feeling but no mucus. Joint pain especially in hands. Started getting out of breath going upstairs today and upper chest pain this evening.

MyWedding · 22/10/2020 20:42

@Bizzywater i have tested positive and have joint pain in my fingers it's such a strange feeling. Also aching body and chest. I'm feeling very anxious tonight in case it gets any worse

Bizzywater · 22/10/2020 20:51

@MyWedding yes I'm feeling anxious too which I am sure won't help. The joint pin is very weird, kind of like I imagine arthritis to be with occasional shooting pain

VitreousHumour · 22/10/2020 23:33

Can I ask, has anyone who has tested positive had long-lasting but mild joint pain subsequently?

In mid-March I had a cold with no runny nose (but felt blocked), fits of sneezing, and a sore throat. It lasted about four days. About a week later I noticed a weird joint pain in both of my elbows that hasn't gone away.

VitreousHumour · 22/10/2020 23:33

Ah - massive cross post..

LemonDrizzle44 · 23/10/2020 06:46

My DP developed a stuffy nose over the weekend and was sneezing lots. By Tuesday he had no smell. No other cough or fever and felt well. He booked a test. Tuesday evening I had a slight cough (which seemed to be a usual cough I get with reflux) and slight headache.

Wednesday morning I develop a raging headache and cough is slightly worse. I went for a test.

By Thursday I woke up feeling a little achy, cough is better but still a raging headache. I took my temperature which was 38.6. It was a shock, I didn't feel hot/feverish. Besides the headache I felt well. DP mum develops lose of smell with no other symptoms and now she is being tested!

We are all still awaiting our results. Hoping I get mine back today.

SomethingM1ss1ng · 23/10/2020 10:44

@LemonDrizzle44 hope you all feel better soon and the test turns out negative. Do you have an inkling where you might have caught this from?
