It seems like it's on the cards but 🤷‍♀️

I think the other issue is people not following rules and am not entirely sure they would for a lockdown either. We live in a tier 1 area but aren't really mixing other than for school as we're a household of 6 so can't have anyone over. And yet keep being asked if we want to meet over half term.

Can make all the rules you want, but if people won't follow them, they're pretty pointless.

ResplendentAutumn · 18/10/2020 08:53

Arf, you can't get an ocado slot like that, it's realeased one day at a time!

In Germany during their lock down another pp has said, getting out into the sun was encouraged! Sitting on a bench wasn't a crime!

toptreeroots1 · 18/10/2020 09:01

Meh. Fed up off the speculation. If it happens it happens.

Letseatgrandma · 18/10/2020 09:05

England following suit wouldn’t surprise me in the slightest.

Lockdownfatigue · 18/10/2020 10:03

Schools aren’t closing in Wales though? Only secondary? Most secondary pupils can stay home by themselves so people can still work.

The circuit breaker won’t make much difference to most people I know. We already can’t leave the county and most counties around us are locked down. So we can’t see family or meet others indoors.

Primary schools aren’t closing. All it will mean for us us a secondary age dc learning online for one week.

Berline · 18/10/2020 10:20

The ride is turning with these lockdowns.
My previous post about searching for loopholes so my mental health would not suffer again was not meant as goady - more a get it off my chest vent- nevertheless, 6 months ago I'd have been flamed here.
People are waking up to the damage now and are sick of hearing about zoom, saving the NHS etc.
I'm not going to socialise for 'fun' but I'm damned if I'm not going to see a small number of people to maintain my sanity.
And I will find loopholes.

Remmy123 · 18/10/2020 10:32

@Berline I'm with you on that!!

thetoughhaveleft · 18/10/2020 10:36

And I will find loopholes

Speaking as a teacher, risking my own health on a daily basis teaching large groups in small spaces with no PPE, thanks for that.

WishIWasSomewhereElse · 18/10/2020 11:02

@MrsTravers you must be in Bucks, same as us. Very scary times.

TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 18/10/2020 11:06

‘And l will find loopholes’Confused

Hope you’re proud of yourself.

‘Loopholes’ are what contribute to the spread.

RoseAndRose · 18/10/2020 11:09

I think they've left it too late.

English half terms are starting this week, and so I think a lockdown should have already been announced to start on Monday, so that even if your half term is the week after, for most people it would have overlapped with the week schools were off anyhow

IlsaLund · 18/10/2020 11:12

@mumonthehill

In wales here and we are already having a 2 week half term as we went on at school a week longer before the summer break. We have also had info that National tests will be held when they go back at the beginning of November, so will be a pain if these are cancelled again.
The National Test date is determined at school level now that they are online. Confusing with them being called National! But that will be the Headteacher’s decision to schedule them for November rather than WG.
MrsTravers · 18/10/2020 11:16

Spot on @WishIWasSomewhereElse . Just seems to be dragging on forever!

RedComb · 18/10/2020 11:47

@Pinkflipflop85

We've been given some extra ppa time in school next week to get online learning ready for the first week of November

Make of that what you will...

Given that the law comes in on 22nd Oct, I would make of that that your school are too late!
Berline · 18/10/2020 12:01

Not proud no.
I stated quite clearly that the reason I will find loopholes is to maintain my sanity
Not to party, not to socialise, not to go raves, not to have dinner parties, not to go to pubs, not to go to restaurants but just a little human interaction outside household with one or two people.
But hey covid trumps everything and nothing else matters.

cantkeepawayforever · 18/10/2020 12:10

Berline, if you are a single person household, you can bubble with one household for your own support, within the law.

Just do that. No need for loopholes.

DdraigGoch · 18/10/2020 12:29

I'm in a village in North Wales. Unfortunately the WG seems intent on using a sledgehammer to crack a nut so the entire county have been put under travel restrictions, despite not releasing the ward or postcode data that would indicate which areas actually have cases.

Frankly if it gets to December and there is still a travel ban, I will be sticking two fingers up at Drakeford and I will go down to London to one of the Christmas concerts. Masks are worn and it's all socially-distanced so there's bugger all risk. I won't put my life on hold forever. It's not like I've been in and out of everyone's house anyway, I've been antisocial for years.

If Drakeford thinks that he can stop me seeing my parents (extended household bubble prior to local lockdown) for Christmas, he can get knotted.

@NRJ688

I hope so, I’d like to get my Ocado slot booked and delivered for my cottage, we had a lovely lockdown last April / May , lockdown is what you make of it
So the cottage is your second home that you escaped to for lockdown? Wasn't that against the rules? Or a stealth boast about how lovely your home is Vs say a 2 bed flat with damp? Also curious how many children you adequately home schooled and their ages whilst all the adults worked from home full time and the size of the garden? And if you were furloughed how much of your wage you received and for how long / your risk of being made redundant?

It's so incredibly ignorant of what life is like for so many people to come and fish about how amazing lockdown is for you and how you hope we can keep doing lockdowns because they're such jolly good fun. When you don't have kids with SEN having massive meltdowns because their routine is ruined;your not able to go under financially because you lost your job / not getting paid fully /business is about to collapse; your not stuck in a small house with no garden / neighbours from hell; aren't experiencing domestic violence with no way to escape etc.

Mynameidontremember · 18/10/2020 12:53

Judging by all the kids at the skatepark and up the woods, there's not a lot of point closing the high schools in Wales cos they're all crossing bubbles and mixing anyway.

Completely agree, we're using common sense. My parents are wraparound childcare for my children so spend time with them in close contact. I can't see the difference it would make if I saw them in their house given that my children spend time there in close contact with them.

Same here @Berline

Fortunately I think there could be enough people who can't do lockdown again for it not to be a realistic proposition.

Berline · 18/10/2020 14:32

Thanks for replies but I am in a local lockdown and the person I want to bubble with does in fact live alone but not in my area! It's driving me nuts. I am not a rulebreaker by nature but I've got to find a way past this.
My hope is that at least if there is a circuit breaker we 'll all be under same rules and be able to have a bubble with anyone within Wales who lives alone but I doubt it. For example, Cardiff household with Powys person who lived alone.
It'll still be harsher in some areas than others.

Pinkflipflop85 · 18/10/2020 14:34

@RedComb we've been providing online learning for anyone isolating since term started.

The extra time has been given to us to get additional online learning ready for full closure and to develop enough paper packs for all of the children we teach who don't have access to the tech needed.

cologne4711 · 18/10/2020 16:42

@JustMeG

Leaked documents for us in Wales suggests primary schools will stay open after half term but the secondary schools will stay closed for 2-3 weeks.
That bodes even better for GCSEs and A levels next year...March to September lost, numerous kids and staff self-isolating/off sick and now saying they're going to close schools again for a few weeks (and we know it won't be just a few weeks).

Yep that is all going to go really well.
