Who thinks the new tier systems will actually work

Just wondering if people think they will work and help bring the cases down enough where we might go lower down in tiers or is it not enough.

Not sure really. They might do in time but will people comply?

GirlCrush · 17/10/2020 19:52

no i doubt it

the schools, in my opinion, are a big part of the problem

ResplendentAutumn · 17/10/2020 19:54

Unfortunately not because I think it's too confusing for people.. Inspite of covid people are busy with their own lives and this covid noise is going on in the background...

nottodaytomorrow · 17/10/2020 19:56

Not while schools and colleges are open as normal no.

Pelleas · 17/10/2020 19:58

No - too many people are ignoring any restrictions.

LiveFromHome · 17/10/2020 19:59

Nope.

I've just seen on Facebook some friends that have gone into Manchester to watch the Liverpool/Everton match, travelling out of Lancs (who are the highest tier) to do so.

I've seen a local bar advertising that they're still open, they've teamed up with a local takeaway to "serve meals" Hmm i.e. the takeaway will deliver your order to the bar - so they are staying open.

People still wearing masks as chum supports or not quite understating that we breathe through our noses too - so they should be covered.

And whilst schools and colleges remain open - and don't even get me started on the university fiasco - no.

Above all everyone is just sick of it, sick of rules, sick of hearing about covid, incredulous that just 2 months ago we were urged and being given discount to "eat out to help out" and now we're being told to stay in.

The whole thing is a total fuck up.

OpheliasCrayon · 17/10/2020 20:01

Nope. I don't think it will and test and trace is already a joke.

monkeytennis97 · 17/10/2020 20:01

No. Schools are the virus breeding ground.

Family1st2020 · 17/10/2020 20:06

Nope.
Too confusing.
Not whilst schools are open unfortunately.

ResplendentAutumn · 17/10/2020 20:08

And yes, now it's got a firm hold in schools.

Oaktree55 · 17/10/2020 20:09

Nope won’t work scientists say it won’t. Boris being weak and another Cummings plan to delay till majority of public begging for harsher measures as hospitals fill up.

Cycle of circuit breakers through till Spring

Fishfingersandwichplease · 17/10/2020 20:11

I live in a tier 2 area (since midnight) on a county border and have been told people are just going to go to the next county to eat out etc which is 5 miles up the road as they are in tier 1. So already, people are flouting the rules. Really don't know what the solution is.

ResplendentAutumn · 17/10/2020 20:11

Re the eat out, it was over summer, rates had massively dropped, we had to get out to support business... It gave business a boost, it gave us a break...

I'm not sure what people expected?

Lolaloveslemonade · 17/10/2020 20:12

Have the restrictions started yet?
We are in a tier 2 area. I went out for lunch with my DH and DCs today.
There was a group of 6 on the table next to us - 3 elderly couples. On the other side another table of 6 - all women in their 40s/50s.
I thought households weren’t allowed to mix inside restaurants?

Lolaloveslemonade · 17/10/2020 20:13

We were eating in a tier2area btw.

YeOldeTrout · 17/10/2020 20:21

Leicester & Manchester seem to be frozen. Not getting better but at least not getting worse (?) Not getting worse might be as good as we dare hope for.

Malachite234 · 17/10/2020 20:58

No, they need to close schools.

No, I'm in tier 2 and I don't know anyone who hasn't seen friends or family today, pub full and mixed tables, kids playing on the street together etc.

I have also noticed that when someone posts a pic on Facebook of a selfie with friend/relatives that they no longer get comments about breaking rules which makes me think it's the norm

ChristmasinJune · 17/10/2020 22:00

This sort of carry on will get all restaurants in tier 3 closed down within a couple of weeks I expect.

Plus people going to pubs in a different area that's in a lower tier will push more areas into more severe levels.

I'm beginning to get slightly irritated with people claiming the rules are "confusing" when what they actually mean is that they don't want to follow them.

Restrictions have started and your right, not allowed to mix households indoors, including restaurants and pubs. So they are all breaking the rules.
HarryLimeFoxtrot · 17/10/2020 22:09

No. It’s a virus. It’s virulent. It’s endemic in the population. It’s obviously going to spread. Blaming people for the inevitability of biology is crazy. (And don’t get me started on “it’ll be over quicker if everyone obeys the rules” - just no. That’s not how it works, it really isn’t).

TheMostHappy · 17/10/2020 22:09

Nah. Not whilst schools are still open.

Family1st2020 · 17/10/2020 22:11

We had a couple of pubs independent little backstreet ones here that didn't even close in lockdown. Regulars using the back doors. Windows covered and curtains drawn. Walking past one, one day and it was so noisy.
And one 5 min away i know did the same as a relatives partner went in daily.!

milkysmum · 17/10/2020 22:17

No. I'm in tier 3. I don't know anyone who has really been sticking to guidance fully, or who plans to either. So much of it doesn't make sense and people have had enough I think. People just say they are from sane households when going out, and people are still visiting family and having friends over.

herethereandeverywhere · 17/10/2020 22:21

Where's the evidence for the multiple claims that schools are the problem? I have many friends with school age kids and don't know any at schools with cases. Seems harsh to close my kids school when no one has COVID.
