@MRex ah yes that's not surprising currently but I def think @hopsalong should request that way if her gp refuses

www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/news/liverpool-news/critical-point-reached-intensive-care-19099993
Critical point reached as intensive care 90% full in Liverpool hospitals
Councillor Paul Brant said intensive care beds are 'filling up very fast'

Slight pinch of salt required as they will expand capacity by taking beds and services from other areas, but that comes at a cost.

Meanwhile Whiston Hospital opened its 4th dedicated covid ward a couple of days ago.

MotherOfDragonite · 14/10/2020 16:12

17,234 today. Depressing. 680 admitted to hospital, 137 deaths.

justchecking1 · 14/10/2020 16:13

17,234 is yesterday's number?

ScatteredMama82 · 14/10/2020 16:13

It's more than that @MotherOfDragonite. 19724 cases.

Beebityboo · 14/10/2020 16:14

Still such high numbers :(

wintertravel1980 · 14/10/2020 16:14

The number for today will be higher.

England on its own is 16,132.

Char2015 · 14/10/2020 16:14

@MotherOfDragonite

17,234 today. Depressing. 680 admitted to hospital, 137 deaths.
That's yesterdays cases. Today is 19,724.
Beebityboo · 14/10/2020 16:14

19,724 Shock

cathyandclare · 14/10/2020 16:14

137 deaths today, so another day over 100. However, looking at the data by date of death, it's not as alarming ( usual caveat about lag particularly over the last few days):
12-10-2020 32
11-10-2020 69
10-10-2020 62
09-10-2020 46
08-10-2020 76
07-10-2020 92
06-10-2020 61
05-10-2020 64
04-10-2020 51
03-10-2020 57
02-10-2020 65
01-10-2020 63

Char2015 · 14/10/2020 16:14

I'm guessing tomorrow we will be in to the 20,000s.

MotherOfDragonite · 14/10/2020 16:15

Weird, sorry! Mine was saying it was for Wednesday but clearly the numbers hadn't updated. The 19s are even worse!

ScatteredMama82 · 14/10/2020 16:17

I wonder if the deaths number is still updated as it was 137 yesterday also

RedToothBrush · 14/10/2020 16:18

Fucking fabulous.

The arcgis.com data which gave you a map by ward, has been 'updated' to give a 'better' source of information.

You now only get data by county not ward so you cant see exactly where the hotspots are.

slow hand clap

knittingaddict · 14/10/2020 16:19
@Reastie back then the prospect of dying at home in pain and without treatment was more commonplace. Now it seems brutal.

For me the prospect of a loved one, or indeed anyone dying a miserable wretched death in pain on a trolley, or at home is something to be avoided at all costs.

I accept that there will be a death toll whatever we do. But I can't accept the prospect of people being denied access to healthcare and dying in that way.
Thank you for your post. This sums it up for me. Back in March my fears were about how I would die, not whether I died and I'm feeling the same way again now. When my husband's colleague ended up in a coma in March due to CV, I remember thinking "thank goodness, I can cope with that". Weird, I know.

Both my husband and I are in the vulnerable (not extremely vulnerable) group and I'm desperately trying to keep my anxiety at bay, while living as normal a life as possible. The idea of either being refused medical aid or dying along in hospital is just so awful. I don't want it for myself or anyone I love or even complete strangers. I would also rather medical staff weren't called upon to make those decisions.

I'm so sorry to be so honest and hope no one is triggered by my post.

cathyandclare · 14/10/2020 16:20

It says it was 143 yesterday on the data chart

Frazzled2207 · 14/10/2020 16:20

well this is all very grim. Except for North West figures which possibly did see a bit of a peak about the 6th/7th

Witchend · 14/10/2020 16:22

Wasn't it 143 deaths yesterday?

It was only 2 weeks ago that 22k looked a huge amount with the ones down the back of the sofa. It looks like we might hit that shortly with genuine cases. Shock

However if we look at the last few weeks, it's increased approximately half as much again each week, so we would be on approximately 150k this week, or roughly 21.5k a day.

cathyandclare · 14/10/2020 16:22

Do you mean the MSOA map RTB or another one? The MSOA one is here in lovely colours!

coronavirus-staging.data.gov.uk/details/interactive-map

Frazzled2207 · 14/10/2020 16:23

Manchester (city not greater) def seems to be declining I think, although I know there was a lot of proactive testing of students which probably messes up the trajectory a bit.

PrayingandHoping · 14/10/2020 16:24

@RedToothBrush do u mean this map?

coronavirus-staging.data.gov.uk/details/interactive-map

You can zoom in and see the ward level, u can even see you street on the map within it

BigChocFrenzy · 14/10/2020 16:26

The UK has the problems of limited NHS capacity, backlog of case and staff maybe being more cautious than elsewhere

I don't know how common it is in other countries for non-Covid services to have been so badly hit and to still be hit,
but in the UK it seems a major cause & fear of lockdown resentment
There needs to be a better service and iirc Van-Tamm was saying this would happen ?

In Germany, all elective surgery and standard checkups were cancelled in early March, but important care continued throughout
e.g. cancer continued and f2f investigation of worrying symptoms

Normal service but with masks was resumed from mid-May, with doctors and dentists eager to resum (well, in my area at least)
Practices & small clinics are privately owned, so if they don't work, they have to rely on govt support

My GP, my eye specialist and dentist all contacted me mid-May to schedule regular - non-urgent - checkups that had been slightly delayed.
They reportedly got through their backlog quite quickly by working extra hours

I've not heard of anyone being asked to have video appointments instead of f2f - maybe we are too old-fashioned, (e.g. it is mostly still cash in restaurants and shops, maybe different in Berlin.)

e.g. When I had my recent flu jab, I just went in as normal and made an appointment for that evening;
the GP & I wore masks and that was the only difference;
I had the last appointment of the day and he was quite chatty afterwards, no obvious precautions, although a chubby middle-aged German Asian MInority Ethnic

@RedToothBrush
Ah, regarding the new website which is now
coronavirus-staging.data.gov.uk/
You can get the MSOA data at least by putting in your postcode under cases and you get the number

BigChocFrenzy · 14/10/2020 16:29

UK today
(yesterday, then last few days in brackets)

Cases 19,724 .... (17,234 13,972, 12,872, 15,166, 13,864)
Deaths 137 ...........( 143, 50, 65, 81, 87)

Ooo must have updated. When i first went on it, i just got white wards with no data. So looked like it was under 'suppressed'

Seems to be working now.
