I'm presuming you can still spread Covid via hands even if you've had the vaccine?

3 work colleagues (non of which are in my class bubble) and 3 children in 2 classes have tested positive since Thursday.

I went for a test yesterday (just waiting for results)

So I’ve been offered the vaccine today. Feel really guilty about unblinding so early but work with vulnerable elderly and we need as many of us to be vaccinated as possible to give them a better chance of normal. Has anyone else unblinded? I sent an email earlier asking so not sure how long it takes but I’m not having the vaccine until first week of January so no rush to find out whether I need to attend.

BG2015 · 21/12/2020 18:56

Pennee wow that's quick then for you. Please keep us informed about the time scale.

Will do. Was very surprised it would be this quick but have to take the chance now it’s offered. Hope to god I’ve already had it 😁

I'm sure I was told at my first appt that we couldn't spread the virus. There was a boy who was worried about shielding parents.

Wow pennee
I had my third appointment today. Next one in March.

PivotPivotPivottt · 22/12/2020 18:28

I haven't read the full thread but has this vaccine finished the trials and being produced now? My mum sent me a message to say my step dad received a phone call today to go for the vaccine tomorrow she says it was called something like new movax. All I can think of is Novavax but when I googled I could only see reports from trials.

MrsChristmasHamlet · 22/12/2020 18:39

Not yet. I think they're expecting the trial data to be ready in February

pennee · 22/12/2020 18:42

The unblinding can only be done maximum of 48 hours in advance! Spoke to them today and had to forward proof of my appointment and said to wait to hear now.
My next appointment was due end of February

Oh I can't think what vaccine it could be then 🤔

As in 48h before your vaccine? That doesn't give you long to make a decision if you have had the active Novavax already, does it? Assume it's to keep you in the trial as long as possible though.
pennee · 22/12/2020 19:31

@andadietcoke must admit I was very surprised as I will feel guilty for cancelling so late in the day have I had the real one with novavax. I was thinking if I could sort it this week then someone else gets an opportunity of my slot if I didn’t need it.
I’m wondering now if I will still go back for antibody blood tests if I’ve had the real thing as those results wouldn’t be affected would they? I suppose it will just be a case of trial over for me though regardless of the unblinding.

Daftapath · 22/12/2020 19:59

The trouble with being offered the Pfizer vaccine now is that even if you unblind and find out you have the Novavax, without the results we don't know how effective it is.

If the Novavax vaccine is shown to be less effective, should we still have the Pfizer (or others) if offered?

I guess getting an antibodies test would help the decision.

MrsChristmasHamlet · 22/12/2020 20:18

It won't happen to me - but if we're offered the vaccine and unblind, and discover we've already had one, do we still get offered the other one?

ginnybag · 22/12/2020 20:59

No, I don't think so. They answered this question at my 2nd appointment. The general just is that if you have had an active vaccine, its possibly not safe to have another so they're recommending against having any of the others if you've had Novavax.

The saving grace is that they do think its got effectiveness in the same range as the Pfizer.

ramblingsonthego · 23/12/2020 07:52

I am off for my day 35 appt blood test. Hope I will be in and out and not hanging around for long.

andadietcoke · 23/12/2020 10:09

Good luck ramblings! I was in and out in about 25 minutes

ramblingsonthego · 23/12/2020 10:54

20 minutes and done. Really good. Not there till March now.

ramblingsonthego · 28/12/2020 09:10

I woke up the poor vaccine trial Dr this morning! Grin I do not have the 3 main symptoms but after suffering insomnia for months and months (thank you menopause) yesterday I became so tired and exhausted, like I could fall asleep standing up, I slept on and off all day and still shattered this morning. Also been nauseous and food has tasted funny. I can taste food but it all taste really weird and like its off, also its like my sense of taste has been heightened and everything tastes way way stronger than it should.

My husband said to call the vaccine trial so at 8.30am I did and have to test for 3 days and start filling in the app diary.

I would have no clue where I could have possibly caught it from as we were isolating for 10 days until Xmas eve and then I have only seen my mum (in our support bubble) and she has been shielding since March. It would only be that our daughter actually did have covid, despite 2 negative tests and I would have caught it that way.

MrsChristmasHamlet · 28/12/2020 09:37

Oh blimey, ramblings Hope you start to feel better soon.

ramblingsonthego · 28/12/2020 10:01

Thank you mrschristmas I am pretty sure I will get a negative result. I have realised I did go to the hospital on Wednesday for the blood test on day 35 so that could be a source if positive but that is the only place I have been for 2 weeks. Its all so weird.

I put all the symptoms yesterday to a change in HRT and I'm convinced it will still be that.

Daftapath · 28/12/2020 18:34

Fingers crossed it is 'nothing' Ramblings or if it is covid, it is short lived!

ramblingsonthego · 28/12/2020 19:22

Thank you daft I have to do the 3 days of the postal tests which is a pain. I assume then I have to go to the hospital to pick up more of the tests? Does anyone know?

Daftapath · 28/12/2020 20:41

They would need to give you three more but presume they could post them? At least with 3 consecutive tests, you will be firm in the knowledge of your result!

ramblingsonthego · 28/12/2020 20:53

Very true. This evening I have started with a streaming nose and a lot of sneezing. So maybe it was a cold brewing. The on call trial Dr did say the hospital would call me tomorrow, so I will feedback what they say. I really hope I am negative as we move house on the 8th.
