Have just had the call and am going tomorrow. Very excited. Anyone else doing this?

I was asked about symptoms at my third appointment as I said upthread. Not everyone is doing the extra symptom study, we are doing other sub studies. So it makes sense that some are asked more than others.

Had my flu jab yesterday so another sore arm to add to my bruise from the blood test the day before!

@CardinalCat the consultant told me that initial results would be out end of Feb/early March.

Frazzled2207 · 10/12/2020 09:35

indeed I am under the impression there will be news in late feb/march but that doesn't suggest that it could be approved by then does it? That would likely be somewhat later.
Generally very impressed by the speed they're all going at though.

@Frazzled2207 no, it seems very much just initial findings to be published then. When I say published, I do hope that they are made public

MrsHamlet · 10/12/2020 10:41

Strangely my injection site has just become really hot and swollen

Daftapath · 10/12/2020 15:12

@MrsHamlet had the arm settled down before this? How strange. Strong placebo? Grin

MrsHamlet · 10/12/2020 16:10

I had a sore arm on Tuesday night and achy joints in that arm on weds but it's just flared up today 🤷‍♀️

Vargas · 10/12/2020 16:24

@CardinalCat
I’m not using the app, which would explain the close questioning. But I didn’t get any kind of an examination, just a blood test and an escort out the door.

Seasiderabbit · 10/12/2020 17:36

I went for my second appointment today. I noticed a greeny-yellow liquid in the syringe. I was only there for 1 hour 40 minutes this time. Luxury compared to the 3.5 hours for the first visit! This was Hexham. I feel for the women on reception - they have such a busy job with so many people asking them questions, the doctors coming for files and all the other jobs they have to do. Hats off to them!

MrsHamlet · 11/12/2020 06:55

I'll ring the clinic later but does anyone know where/whether I'm meant to report stuff. Is it the app? Do I do it now? Or are weird things in the first week post stabbing just ignored?

andadietcoke · 11/12/2020 07:00

@MrsHamlet I think 'weird things in the first seven days' are expected. I just noted them down and let them know at my next appointment.

Daftapath · 11/12/2020 07:35

@MrsHamlet I was told that the app is only if you have symptoms after 7 days. Also, I think, if you get cv symptoms (after 7 days too).

From what was said upthread, I think some people may be doing a more in depth symptom study so may be using it?

indeed what I was told. I've never had anything to report whatsoever so never used the app. When I played around with it it seemed quite annoying. I've turned off the notifications now.

I always know that it's 10am when my notification comes through! Grin

We're part of the Salford trial. Had our 2nd jab yesterday - wow, does my arm hurt today. :-)

I had an achy arm after the 1st jab, bit of a headache and an 'off feeling'. Jab two yesterday - headache within an hour and this time my arm is really sore, right down to my hand, and warm at the jab site. The 'off' feeling is back, as well.

I normally get a little bit of an ache with things like the flu jab, and round one was about that level - there but mostly ignorable, nothing to mither about. This, on the other hand, is as my grandma would have put it, 'properly uncomfortable'. Both times my blood pressure did weird things afterward, as well.

My husband, injected at the same two appointments, has had nothing at all both times. He's determined that this means I've had it and he hasn't - I'm not ruling out the placebo effect, personally.

Our syringes were identical, clear with and labelled for both active/placebo, so no clue there.

We were both antibody negative before hand, although our 10 year old was positive (different testing thing a few weeks ago.)

Woventabby · 14/12/2020 15:55

I had my 3rd appointment. The doctor noted, with interest, the twinges I had in the arm of the first injection, after the second jab, and wrote it down.

I have something to tell you today. DS tested positive for Covid (London, secondary school), then passed it onto my DH, who also tested positive later. We are a family of three. We were blasted with DS's sneezing (his main symptom) the whole weekend, and that was a week after my 2nd jab. I haven't developed any symptoms, and my self isolation finished at the weekend. I am guessing I had the real vaccine, and it worked for me! What a timing that was, though! I didn't ask the doctor today if I had the real thing, which they cannot tell us anyway, but she was very pleased with my story. Of course, I won't know for certain until unblinded at some point. If it was a placebo, this would be the greatest placebo effect on earth! And I would be grateful for that, too. Blush

Covid didn't trouble DS, though his sneezing was loud and annoying. DH suffered more, as you would expect from a high-middle-aged man, but he is OK now.)

Daftapath · 14/12/2020 16:08

Ooh, @Woventabby, interesting!

I see that a new variant of covid has been identified and it is being suggested this could explain the high numbers in the south of England. Wonder what this means for vaccines?

So we move in to Tier 3 on Wednesday and dd's school moves to remote learning for the rest of the week. Hoping this helps us all to remain healthy in the lead up to and over Christmas! 🤞🏻

Frazzled2207 · 14/12/2020 16:14

I have just been sent an email update from my hospital
As you know we recruited our 15,000th participant just over 2 weeks ago nationally, so thank you for your involvement. Having this number of study participants has proven very valuable for 2 reasons:

  • First, it looks very likely that a preliminary efficacy analysis will take place at the end of January 2021 and so we should have a good idea about how effective Novavax might be.
  • Secondly, our initial guidance about side effects was related to local injection site reactions (40-50%), redness, swelling, tenderness and pain, and systemic reactions (50-60%) are myalgia, arthralgia, and fatigue. Headaches and fever were not as common. This was based on the Phase 1 and Phase 2 studies undertaken prior to this Phase 3 study. We are pleased to advise that on the basis of the much larger numbers in our UK study, those side effects have not changed, and indeed they have been no serious adverse events as yet identified.

@Woventabby
That's brilliant!

@Daftapath
whilst that's worrying MH did say that there is nothing to suggest it won't react to a vaccine in the normal way

Woventabby · 14/12/2020 16:17

I saw the news about the new variant just now. I wonder what versions of Covid DS and DH had. Their symptoms didn't include any of the 3 official symptoms. (If Covid hadn't been spread like wildfires at school, I wouldn't have got him tested in the first place.) Fingers crossed that all the vaccine progress won't be affected by this new variant...

Thanks for that. Very interesting and good news.
Woventabby · 14/12/2020 17:00

@Frazzled2207 Thank you for the information. Preliminary analysis at the end of January! That's really excellent. Can't wait!

BG2015 · 14/12/2020 17:07

Woventabby did you not have a test? Or did you and it came back negative?

Woventabby · 14/12/2020 17:57

@BG2015 I didn't take a test, as I didn't develop any symptoms. When I contacted the doctor when DS tested positive, she didn't advise me to take a test, either. It makes me wonder if I was asymptomatic, or I didn't get it.

andadietcoke · 14/12/2020 17:57

I still haven't received my pregnancy test!! Daft as anything - I could just tell them it's negative.
