Just got the end of Look North and they said Tier 3 is a possibility but far from agreed yet. Hopefully the drop in figures will continue and our local leaders can show that the new measures are working 🤞🏻

doadeer · 23/10/2020 20:08

I just want to give some love for the north east. I'm from north tyneside but live down south. My mum runs a business at the coast now and we are doing a charity raffle for Christmas and we have been OVERWHELMED by the generosity of local businesses. No way would they be as kind where i am 🙄

Very proud to be a Geordie and for the strength and kindness of the local people 💪

Plussizejumpsuit · 23/10/2020 20:51

As they're at the same nursery I'm not sure how my sister will feel about sending the 4 year old now. We haven't spoken yet as she was dealing with that then bed and bath time. I think she isn't feeling great understandably!

I've noticed @PennyDreadfuI hasn't been around for a few days, or maybe I've just missed her? As she was saying her dd saw feeling unwell. Hope everything is OK with you Penny?

MissEWeatherwax · 23/10/2020 21:27

I’m praying we don’t go to tier 3 and I’m not religious, no disrespect.

Dowser · 23/10/2020 23:35

Hi everyone..sorry I haven’t been around much
No excuse
I’ve been doing that rarest of things these days...enjoying myself.
Had our first week in Tenerife
Just 6 days to go as were only having 13 days..better flight times.
The uk with all its misery feels a million miles away, I just hope I don’t get that feeling of dread a couple of days before I go back.
It’s just wonderful to rock up at a restaurant without the palaver at home
So much so, we barely eat out at home..didn’t have one Rishi dinner.

Alls good weather is fabulous
Hope everyone isn’t struggling..too much.

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 24/10/2020 09:43

Dowser that sounds bloody lovely x

Shitfuckoh · 24/10/2020 09:59

So jealous Dowser!

Haha just looking at Christmas food online. Way to cheer me up Grin wanting to stick with the usual turkey crown this year. There's only going to be me & DC but we do like left overs. Just trying to work out where the best place (and weight!) is to get it.

@PennyDreadfuI
I hope you are okay x

gingercat02 · 24/10/2020 13:09

Oh dowser so jealous. We often go away for October half term, my fb memories were full of holiday posts this morning. Sadly can't risk quarantine from work and school 😭

Someaddedsugar · 25/10/2020 12:18

Very jealous @Dowser!

Hope you and DD are ok @PennyDreadfuI! And I hope everyone else is having a lovely weekend.

The Zoe app asked me to go for a CV test on Friday. I went to the Emirates ground at Chester le Street at 11 on the Friday morning and had the result by 6 on the Saturday morning (negative) which amazed me given the number of threads on here and pieces in the news about 7 day waiting times.

We've just come back from PYO pumpkins at Brockbushes - a lovely morning filled and nice to be outdoors. And lovely to be out in the Autumn sunshine! Slightly shocked by the size of the pumpkin we've ended up with. Definitely looked smaller in the field than it does in the kitchen...

I've also just had my notification from Polar Post to say their Christmas book has just been dispatched and really excited to give that to DS. I know not everyone starts their Christmas prep this early but I'm considering sorting DS' advent calendar in early November as something cheery to do. He's got one of the ones that you fill the pockets on so in the middle of considering things to do in December as I like to put activities in for the weekends (just free things like a drive to see the Christmas lights etc). If anyone has any ideas for the Durham area it'd be much appreciated. I'm assuming carol concerts etc won't be happening this year which is a shame as we usually go to the one on the green in Lanchester.

Plussizejumpsuit · 25/10/2020 13:33

@Someaddedsugar I'm sorting Christmas presents earlier this year. I normally do it in Nov. But have bough a few and decide what I'm buying for most people. It's quite nice to do it in a fairly relaxed way.

It's a crisp day where I am but I'm bit out and about. I'm in diy hell. When will the sanding end?!

Hooe everyone is well.

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 25/10/2020 14:09

@someaddedsugar yes I'm wondering about the Christmas stuff too. The kids have been asking about fireworks aswell, we normally go to East Hedley Hope but that's off. Might end up doing what we never do and buying some so we can have a fire in the garden, sparklers and a few bangers.

Christmas we are going to the Ignite at Gibside thing for dd's birthday on the 23rd Dec. Other than that I don't know. The village usually does carols ground the tree in December for the tree lighting followed by mince pies and mulled wine in the hall and the Christmas raffle which is the stuff of legend. Not necessarily for the right reasons!

Justsaynoclowns · 25/10/2020 15:07

Went Newcastle today, was not busy. But the street marking are confusing. Pleased it’s a nice crisp day. Time to wear my woolly hat again.
Hopefully Fenwicks window is going ahead.
The figures in Durham city are coming down, so feeling more positive.

PickAChew · 25/10/2020 16:18

I feel foul of the Newcastle Street markings trying to get to Northumberland Street. Some tosser in a high vi's jacket took great pleasure in yelling at me for not transporting myself from correct arrows to correct arrows without crossing the incorrect arrows, even though it was bloody impossible.

PickAChew · 25/10/2020 16:19

From Blackett Street, that is.

gingercat02 · 25/10/2020 17:44

Us to Oakley fire pit, pulled pork, some sort of toffee apple pud and a few very small firworks (once the cats are securely locked in out of sight) Halloween old school 🧙‍♀️🎃✨🎆

Someaddedsugar · 25/10/2020 17:49

@Justsaynoclowns pleased to hear Durham numbers are going down! It's about time!!

@OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea I'm intrigued by the raffle and Christmas festivities.

We're also going to Ignite but I think it's on the 18th (will have to double check tickets).

Wheelbirks (the ice cream place near Corbridge just off the A68) are putting on Santa events on the Sundays in December. Tickets aren't on sale yet but worth keeping an eye on their social media as that's where there events are advertised.

PickAChew · 25/10/2020 20:17

Yeah, the rate for Durham City was reported as over 5000, a week ago. Reported as 2700, today. Newcastle City Centre is now out of the red, too. But teesside! Wtf? Stockton is particularly bad. No key on the enlarged version of the new map. Mid blue is hmm, dark blue is eek and maroon is oh shit.

InTheLongGrass · 25/10/2020 21:18

Stockton has also reported a drop in daily numbers over the past few days. Both kids schools have closed bubbles in the past few days (and DS1 is at home for 2 weeks). Its pretty dire and we (well, DS2 and I) basically are going to wide open spaces and tesco once a week over half term.
But we have well and truly overtaken Boro and Hartlepool- who were put on local lockdown a few weeks before the tiers came in. I guess it shows the restrictions do some damage limitation.

Let's hope numbers keep falling everywhere 🤞

MissEWeatherwax · 25/10/2020 21:57

I think that is the web site I’ve been going on. I like putting my postcode in and checking my local figures. Then clicking on Durham city, then I click my workplace. I think I have problem.

Someaddedsugar · 26/10/2020 08:25

@MissEWeatherwax I do the same - where I live, Durham city centre, where my parents live and then where DP works!

PickAChew · 26/10/2020 08:38

I see the Metrocentre finally has a buyer.

Dh's office is on Teesside though he's been working from home, since March. We're lucky to have the space for his set up, though that means I have to sew in the dining room. They'd just started to open the office, 2 days a week, as there are some things they can't do very effectively over teams, then we went into local lockdown!

MissEWeatherwax · 26/10/2020 11:18

@Someaddedsugar, glad I’m not the only one. I enjoyed going to work during lockdown, as I left the house and saw other people.
PickAChew I haven’t been able to use my sewing machine, because it’s too noisy. And the children complain and with blended learning, they are home the same time as me.
Ah to be home alone.

MissEWeatherwax · 26/10/2020 11:49

Re Christmas , Tanfield Railway is doing Santa express. And Beamish is always good even without Santa. I know a cafe I follow on a Facebook is doing Santa afternoon tea. They also do takeaway. We bought one for Father’s Day. It was lovely and it between C-L-S and Durham. Mums in Durham on Facebook is good to ask questions on.

PickAChew · 26/10/2020 12:36

I saw that broom house farm have their woodland adventure open (prebooked tickets) for anyone with kids who don't mind getting muddy, this week.

I discovered that Ds2 keeps his distance when I'm using my sewing machine. I pulled it out to hem a pyjama top, yesterday and he came down from his stinking pit to investigate, looked at me like I was murdering something, then slunk away in (unusual for him) silence! I've only recently gone back to sewing clothes after about 20 years and I'm enjoying t immensely. I spent a lot of money at jelly facrics, at the weekend!

MissEWeatherwax · 26/10/2020 12:53

Yes, Broom house adventure is open. We go to farm shop regularly. The coffee house is open. It has been very busy if car park anything to go by.
I want to try and made clothes, before COVID I was going to book a session at a sewing cafe called Goldstitch.
