Worrying about 2nd national lockdown

qwertyqwerty1 · 11/10/2020 22:06

I’m extremely worried that we’ll end up in a 2nd national lockdown and the 1st one has delayed my things enough, it’s done enough damage as it is. I was sick of it, everyday was the same boring crap bull. I’m trying to sort my life out and if this second one happens it’s going to ruin it for a 2nd time. I haven’t slept for a few nights because I have just been stressed and worried that they’ll be a second national lockdown. If you understood what I was going through then you would understand. 2020 is over nearly and the majority of the year we have had this lockdown. I mean it’s just one thing after another.

I know how you feel.
All of my cousins, one brother and one sister had their birthdays ruined by lockdowns, I really thought by the end of october I would actually get to enjoy mine.
Its the feeling of not knowing when this will ever end that is so depressing and scary.
I work in hospitality and as much as I'd love a week off I'm wondering if its time to retrain.
In what i have no idea, i love my job and im good at it. Ive never done anything else but its just not sustainable in this climate.
My whole life is up in the air, im mid 30s and single. Things should be getting easier and more settled for me but its the opposite.
My mental health is on the edge to be honest and im a strong resiliant person, I feel for all the people with less supoort and security than I've got.

If you read the treads most people appear to be ignoring the advice and carrying on as normal.

It won’t work if people don’t make it work. That’s the choice.

That's because most people are idiotic fools.
onedayinthefuture · 11/10/2020 22:46

I am worrying too, although I don't know if they can possibly get away with a second national lockdown. No other country in Europe have done it a second time and Madrid even took it to court and won. There's just not public will for a second one because the virus didn't go away like so many people thought it would.....

MoonPomme · 11/10/2020 22:48

Its not that most people are idiotic fools. Most are actually but how long can you expect people to not meet their family or friends?
People are not carrying on as normal but they are mixing more than is advised.

echt · 11/10/2020 22:49

People are not carrying on as normal but they are mixing more than is advised

Which is why there'll be more lockdowns.

MoonPomme · 11/10/2020 23:03

More than advised where I am in leicester is anyone outside of your bubble.
My bubble, im a single parent, is my mum and my 2 sisters who all live together.
Me, my mum and my sister all work 40 hours a week each.
So some weeks if i stick to the rules i cant see anyone.
How long is it ok for me to not see my brothers?
For my brothers to not see me or my child?
Thats before we even consider friends.
This is no life and I dont blame anyone for bending or breaking the rules to see and interact with people they love and care about.
Humans are social beings, we need these interactions. Im an introvert so i need them much less than some other people, my mental health is still suffering.
Ive never felt sorry for extroverts before.

GetRid · 11/10/2020 23:08

There won't be a second national lockdown. Just lots of local ones. Try not to worry too much, although I know that's easier said than done. This will all be over at some point. We've just got to get through it somehow.

Buckwheat80 · 11/10/2020 23:35

I'd be surprised if there's another national lockdown.

The idea that most people are flagrantly rule breaking is nonsense. Most people are, broadly speaking, following the guidance.

The people who want to see their families aren't "idiotic". They're normal. The rules that are being imposed on people in that regard are unreasonable and cruel.

maybe most people have now realised that if they catch coronavirus they will almost certainly suffer either none or only mild symptoms - and even if they are in the most vulnerable demographic they are way more likely to survive than not.

What happened in Madrid ?

And hang the consequences for those that suffer.

AlecTrevelyan006 · 11/10/2020 23:54

we're all suffering in one way or another

Torvean32 · 12/10/2020 01:59

Ppl will stop carrying on like normal when fines are given and actually enforced.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 12/10/2020 05:10

I can't see it happening. There can't be a second national lockdown without offering financial support again, I can't see the government wanting to do that.

PhilCornwall1 · 12/10/2020 05:35

Which has hardly happened, the Police aren't doing it.

When you watch the Police drive past a group of 10+ people and they do nothing, it tells you all you need to know.

Bowerbird5 · 12/10/2020 05:46

MoonPomme
I haven’t seen my daughter and DP since last October and I am not likely to for a while as they are in NZ as they went travelling. They have had to get another visa because they can’t get out. At least they are safe there.
Isn’t that more important? These days you can FaceTime which is great. It is hard but if that is what it takes to keep us safe then that is what we need to do.
Alec We’re not dead though. I have a friend who has long term damage. He is struggling to walk a short distance. He was a healthy, fit, family man in his forties. He is in a support group of other people suffering.

FromEden · 12/10/2020 05:48

Even the WHO are now saying that lockdowns are not the answer and shouldn't be used as the primary means to control the virus because they dont work and only cause more problems

I'm stunned at people who are happy to facetime their closest family for over a year to "keep safe"
Waxonwaxoff0 · 12/10/2020 05:56

@Bowerbird5 I don't feel safe and it's not Covid that is making me feel that way. If I lose my job and home then my DS won't be safe. But who cares about poverty, job losses, depression, other health problems because nothing else matters but Covid, right? Hmm

JamminDoughnuts · 12/10/2020 06:00

but a local lockdown affects people just as much surely? if you are the one in lockdown.

Calledyoulastnightfromglasgow · 12/10/2020 06:00

I’m in central Scotland and it’s shit. Bars shut again, no one in houses.

I think legal action is planned and I would support that.

StealthPolarBear · 12/10/2020 06:11

Yes I don't understand why local lockdown is better than national.

ukgift2016 · 12/10/2020 06:13

I think it was be national lockdown soon and I'm worried about it!

Christmas is ruined. I hope people start to revolt and take legal action. This is inexcusable we are all being punished for a small minority of the country. I can't even bear to think about the people with cancer etc who are being left on the shelf.

KitKatastrophe · 12/10/2020 06:24

You could say the same for lockdowns, there are many many people who would suffer due to the restrictions e.g. job losses, poverty, mental illness, suicide, homelessness, loss of education.
