I'm isolating, keep me company

Today I heard that a 'close contact' (work) has tested positive and I need to isolate for 2 weeks.

So I've separated myself from the family and am hiding out while I wait and hope not to develop symptoms.

Anyone else in the same boat?

Its 2 weeks from last contact with them so might be a bit less than 2 weeks now depending when that was. Hope time passes quickly for you

My DH had a test yesterday and we're awaiting the results. I'm avoiding him. I have terribly bad anxiety and not coping well at all.

MiraWard77 · 10/10/2020 13:18

You're right, I'm in till next Tuesday.

Not keen on the waiting to develop symptoms though.

I feel your pain, I'm 48 hours in waiting for a test result for DC and feel really claustrophobic already.

My sympathies. In Lockdown, when it was just DH going out to shop etc, I got really worried about sharing a bed with him and him breathing all over me. (I'm 'clinically vulnerable').

Now that I'm officially isolating, I'm confined to my bedroom away from the rest of the family.

We are now day 10 isolating with 2 year old dd who obviously can't stay away from us in another room. Thankfully we seem to have been lucky & we are all ok, I'm hoping the worse chances have passed and it's more than likely we will all be ok this time. I hope it goes quickly for you & you don't develop any symptoms!

MiraWard77 · 10/10/2020 13:39

Well done, @EdmundElephantIsACleverClogs, how did you find the waiting for symptoms?

The low level anxiety and time to think are not going to be a good combo, I think!

Although I will probably have plenty of work to do from home!

userxx · 10/10/2020 13:48

Can I ask what will happen with work? Will you be paid only SSP?

EdmundElephantIsACleverClogs · 10/10/2020 13:51

@MiraWard77 it was quite awful. I've been taking temperatures 3 times a day and my anxiety has been through the roof, it doesn't help that dd thinks she's funny when she pretends to cough ( she started this pre covid, has been doing it for about a year) so that's probably made me worse 😂

Can you work from home? If you can I suppose it'll at least keep your mind busy.

psychomath · 10/10/2020 13:54

I'm isolating while I wait for the results from a test I took this morning - got a dry cough, sore throat, metallic taste in my mouth and a slight temperature, plus I live in one of the worst hit areas and work in a secondary school! So it's not looking great for me. Not too worried about possibly having it, but having to stay inside for ten days would be a bit rubbish - I actually wish it could have been over half term as I love my job and don't want to be off.

I believe I'm on full pay and working from home. Since I'm not actually sick.

Oh, the fake-coughing stage 🤦‍♀️

I can sort-of work from home, though the extent to which I can remains to be seen.

Right, DH has gone out with the kids. I'm going to mask-up and venture down to the kitchen to get some lunch. And then bleach everything behind me.

Sorry to jump in on this thread too , but if any one you have had a home kit, can I ask how you had to wait for results? Ours was posted back Weds lunch time. Haven't heard anything yet. Any ideas if over three dats is the norm?
Would it great if they could confirm that the test had been received by the processing lab

MiraWard77 · 10/10/2020 14:28

Sorry I can't help with that one.

But the more the merrier. I'm 3 hours in and bored already.

I'm waiting for the results of a test I had on Thursday (first test on Tuesday 'couldn't be read'). I've just phoned the helpline to escalate it as it's been over 48 hours. I've been self-isolating since Sunday and just really hope I've not passed it onto DD.

I can't concentrate on anything and my anxiety is through the roof. Does the anxiety get any better if you actually have a positive result? Waiting for the result is just hideous.

Jrobhatch29 · 10/10/2020 14:40

I'm waiting too but only had test yesterday. Mine was postal so hoping to get them tomorrow. Waiting is the worst

Chickenqueen · 10/10/2020 14:50

Also isolating here, live in a shared house and a flatmate rested positive. The rest of us don’t have symptoms. Sorry to hijack a bit but for people isolating in a household with a positive case, are you keeping away from eachother in the house? We are finding it quite hard to due to shared kitchen ect. Is there even any point?

I waited six days for home kit result so you may have to wait a little longer.
CatsCereal · 10/10/2020 14:59

@Chickenqueen On some of the other Corona threads, there are lots of examples of people in families/shared houses not all catching it. My friend has tested positive, her husband didn't even though they'd been sharing a bed.

MiraWard77 · 10/10/2020 15:01

I'm on Day 1, but I'm hiding away from my family.

I waited till they went out, and wore a mask to go down to the kitchen and bleached around behind myself.

Could you organise different time slots to use the kitchen?

NORA, that's disgusting !! DC are actually desperate to get back to school. I can wfh, but ugh. Not being able to get out for a walk is horrible. I want to go out...
Chin up everyone. We are in a 'low level' area but numbers are on the rise.

EdmundElephantIsACleverClogs · 10/10/2020 16:34

The letter we had for dd from test and trace advised she couldn't go out for 14 days, even if she had a negative test because she could still be incubating it (she doesn't have symptoms just was in contact with someone who is positive) so we haven't had her tested. We didn't see the point as she doesn't have symptoms and it wouldn't mean she could go out anyway?

Chickenqueen · 10/10/2020 17:45

Yeah I think that’s the solution, just a bit miserable to all be away from eachother. Are you watching anything good to keep you occupied Smile

Yep, I can hear my children downstairs. The littlest doesn't really understand. It's not ideal.

Today I've watched The Intern, Cobra Kai and I'm onto The Haunting of Hill House. I'll probably regret that one later.

Trying to work out how to keep moving in such a small space.
