Who is buying all the bog roll, again!? Why? Why do people fear running out of bog roll so much. Now need to waste the day trying to buy some 🤬

Oh it's driving me mad. I have a medical condition so I need more than the usual. I've bought 2 x9 packs to keep in stock (but then I always have that due to having ibd) but other than that I refuse to by any more than my usual. Panic buying helps no one. People need to stop making a situation worse.

Itsabeautifuldayheyhey · 03/10/2020 08:46

Maybe parents, worrying about having to self-isolate multiple times are making sure they have stocks in, just in case?

Witchend · 03/10/2020 08:48

Why are you worrying about running out so much? 😁 You can always use newspaper.

I think it's the crowd effect. People are buying it because people are buying it.
You are low, see only 3 packets left so you buy one even though you have enough for another week.

OrangeGinLemonFanta · 03/10/2020 08:51

Amazon sell 48 roll packs of Andrex, or 45 packs of sustainable toilet rolls for delivery tomorrow if you can afford a bulk purchase.

MoonJelly · 03/10/2020 09:01

You shouldn't have to waste the day if you go out early. Supermarkets tend to stock up overnight.

barbites · 03/10/2020 09:01

@OrangeGinLemonFanta 👌 thanks

Pasta too. It's like we haven't ever done this before!!!

Stockpiling is pointless as it causes the problem. All the whatifery doesn't change that!

TabbyStar · 03/10/2020 09:03

I read the paper on my iPad.... ConfusedGrin

barbites · 03/10/2020 09:05

@TabbyStar 😂 we don't bother with a paper. I don't want to stockpile it, just what I usually buy for a family of 4.

Admittedly I haven't been in the big Sainsbury lately but marks and spencer and the local Tesco and local coop all have plenty of loo rolls so personally Im not seeing the panic buying?

But even at the height of the panic buying marks and Spencers was all very civilised and calm with plenty of produce 🤣

Noidea2114 · 03/10/2020 09:18

Try a corner shop that's where I got some from in the great panic at the start of covid.

Rushjob · 03/10/2020 09:29

Cue the “I’m not a panic buyer, I’m a prepper” brigade.

SnuggyBuggy · 03/10/2020 09:34

We get that who gives a crap paper that comes in huge boxes, not sure if that counts as panic buying or prepping.

Tomatoesneedtoripen · 03/10/2020 09:40

we had plenty in the spring but it was awful in the retirement home i visited.
think of others

olderthanyouthink · 03/10/2020 09:41

Get cloth wipes and then you'll never have to worry again Wink

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 03/10/2020 09:43

Earlier I the week all I could have purchased was packs of 24. Yesterday, same shop, packs of 12.

Thats normal, white, unscented paper. Plenty of coloured, scented or quilted paper. Appears the panic buyers are discerning here.

Pasta was 2for1. Stocks depleted majorly in the week. (And yes, I got 2 packs rather than the 1 I needed).

Wine is buy 6, save 25%. Maybe for parents of schoolchild stockpiling..

EmmaGrundyForPM · 03/10/2020 09:46

I wasn't surprised in the spring when people did this, even though there was no need, as people were panicking. But I am surprised this time as I would have thought the spring experience would have reassured people that the supply chains work as long as no one starts panic buying.

Velvetpeel · 03/10/2020 10:18

Amazon has loads in stock. Put their packs on repeat order and it comes to your door. They also have bulk buy 90 and 120 packs if you really don’t want to be without. I don’t think there’s a shortage nationally. Last time Amazon sold out (apart from stupid price stuff) but there’s still loads on there to choose from.

KitKatastrophe · 03/10/2020 10:20

Our asda was out of stock of most loo roll on line last week. People seemed to think they would be announcing a second lockdown. Now that they have in fact announced a 10pl curfew and not much else, the stocks are back up. People really are ridiculous.

Laaalaaaa · 03/10/2020 10:23

Can’t say I’ve noticed shortages of anything yet. Toilet roll piled high in shops I’ve been in. It’s not happening everywhere.

Bwlch · 03/10/2020 10:25

I would worry about getting them clean. Yuk.

RedToothBrush · 03/10/2020 10:26

Laat time it happened the places that sold out last were corner shops, discount shops (places like b & m and wilko) and supermarkets in areas which are particularly deprived (where there are lots of people can't afford to stockpile).

For things like pasta if you are desperate look at high(er) end specialist delis or supermarkets if you can afford it.

It was possible to get toilet roll around here throughout the panic buying if you knew where to look and had the means to travel (which i appreciate not everyone does).

For various reasons we were all over the place shopping and it was fascinating to see where queues were, where sold out first and where there were acute shortages and where retainef stock. It definitely wasn't evenly distributed.

IrmaFayLear · 03/10/2020 10:29

I honestly believe people enjoy the drama. Look at the threads on here of people gleefully wondering what to “prep” next, as if it’s a game.

The media stoke it up too. They were “joking” about turkey panic buying on the radio the other day. It puts the idea in people’s heads, gets spread around on social media/word of mouth and then it’s the domino effect of people fearing they’ve been left behind.

mrsrobin · 03/10/2020 10:29

Maybe one of you panic buyers could kindly explain to us non panic buyers why you think it is a good idea and needs to be done please? And also why you don't mind that it causes unnecessary hassle and shortages of stock?

Soubriquet · 03/10/2020 10:30

I work in a supermarket

At the beginning of the first lockdown we had no handsoap, no antibac, no bleach, no pasta, no flour, no tinned tomatoes and no toilet rolls.

We’ve run low on some the last week or so, but we’ve haven’t run out of all of it yet. So hopefully people are learning.
