Bloody toilet roll buying twats

Who is buying all the bog roll, again!? Why? Why do people fear running out of bog roll so much. Now need to waste the day trying to buy some 🤬

OP posts:
dementedpixie · 03/10/2020 14:25

It is psychological. I had to stop myself buying some as the shelf was nearly empty. It only takes a few people to take an extra pack or 2 and thats the shelf emptied

1forAll74 · 03/10/2020 14:28

I have only got a 4 roll pack now, that will have to last until 2021 if they have all sold out everywhere.!! I might have to get some of that shiny IZAL stuff on the net. Ordinary nose tissues always block my loo up, as they don't break down like loo roll.

In the war years, we just used newspaper, it was my job to cut up the radio times into squares, thread them onto some string, to hang on a nail in the outside toilet ha ha.

CoronaIsWatching · 03/10/2020 14:30

I've never panic bought anything. If I don't have toilet paper I would simply take a shit then have a shower straight after, which is actually more hygienic than using paper anyway.

Ariela · 03/10/2020 14:33

*Earlier I the week all I could have purchased was packs of 24. Yesterday, same shop, packs of 12.

Thats normal, white, unscented paper. Plenty of coloured, scented or quilted paper. Appears the panic buyers are discerning here.*

Or is the cynic in me thinking the supermarkets would make more on premium paper so have stopped stocking the cheap stuff temporarily?

AlwaysLatte · 03/10/2020 14:37

I use cut up old face cloths for wees, store the used ones in a small lidded bucket in the bathroom and wash them on a hot wash with Napisan - it's fab stuff.
That's a step too far for me.. don't you get a horrid whiff of wee when you open the lid? And visitors, eek is that not embarrassing? And surely it's not that much better for the environment once you've washed it all in presumably a very hot, half empty wash (a full machine load would be several days of smelly wipes?) and bleached out the bin?

FubsyRambler · 03/10/2020 14:40

@SnuggyBuggy

We get that who gives a crap paper that comes in huge boxes, not sure if that counts as panic buying or prepping.
Prepping. I get one every 3 months and have done for a couple of years. No shelf-stripping here.
dementedpixie · 03/10/2020 14:41

I got some cheeky panda bamboo stuff on an offer on Groupon. I'd had it from Tesco before but it then disappeared from their shelves

AlwaysLatte · 03/10/2020 14:45

I've always just made sure all the bathrooms have a full drawer of loo rolls, so I still just buy what I need but it's about replenishing stocks rather 'stocking up'. Same with the food cupboards. They're always full because I've always kept them that way, and my shopping habits are unchanged, ie I just buy what I need that week, unless there's something I use regularly on offer - eg I always buy Method and Ecover products but they're periodically on offer so I stock up then (last time it wasn't on offer during the panic buying time).

gamerchick · 03/10/2020 14:45

Have they started doing 2 ply yet. My stupid pipes can't cope with 3.

Scaraffito · 03/10/2020 14:47

I always order from Groupon as it's a load cheaper, at a guess though it's something everyone uses, they don't keep as much in the stock room as it takes up a lot of room, and despite how much people say you can just use something else if you run out; who really wants to be wiping their arse on random items?

islockdownoveryet · 03/10/2020 15:27

I've just been out to the supermarket and there was plenty but last weekend was empty .

I am the proud owner of a Muslim Tap from Amazon.
Game changer.
Paid for itself the first two weeks.

Soubriquet · 03/10/2020 16:31

See I don’t like the idea of a bidet

It’s such a faff to have to wash your bits and then fully dry before getting dressed again. I mean at least with toilet roll it’s a quick wipe. Though I can see the allure during my fertile period

Scaraffito · 03/10/2020 16:37

I wouldn't mind one if it was just me and DH, but honestly, I can imagine the mess with DC trying to use one!

LolaSmiles · 03/10/2020 16:40

Cue the “I’m not a panic buyer, I’m a prepper” brigade
I'm neither but there's a fairly obvious difference between someone who, over time, ensures their cupboards are stocked to a given level and someone who senses a big event and rushes around the place trying to buy as much as possible.

For years I've always made sure that I have spares of our store cupboard staples just in case. Nobody's found themselves running short of tinned tomatoes or bread flour over the last 10 years because I buy the same amount every fortnight and I assume the supermarkets manage their stock based on demand.

If I heard a local lockdown was coming, went to Tesco and bought 4 bags of bread flour, 2 packs of toilet roll and several bags of pasta 'just in case' then that's going to cause shortages because the demand for stock won't have accounted for hundreds of people having a run on things.

TheQueef · 03/10/2020 16:40

I've narrow pipes Soub and the amount we flushed had to drop.
It connects to the sink so all hidden you just have a little showerhead next to the cistern. Lovely warm water wash with a two square pat dry only now Wink mine reaches the sink so I can wash my hair with it Grin makes cleaning the lav easier too.

Lalanbaba · 03/10/2020 17:03

Been yesterday in 2 supermarkets, both fully stocked, no shortages.

jcyclops · 03/10/2020 17:09

It's wrong to label toilet-roll hoarders as twats - surely you should be calling them arseholes.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 03/10/2020 18:12

I did buy a Lota a few years ago in an effort to be greener but couldnt be bothered to use it Blush
It's currently used to water the houseplants but I would be prepared to use it for its proper purpose if we run out of toilet roll

I do a short rinse of just wipes and then wash them in with towels or other things which dont require fabric conditioner. So it's not any worse for the environment as I wouldve been washing the towels anyway.

I got into them when my baby was in washable nappies. If you can wash a nappy then you can wash a wipe. And I dont know how much wee you think is on each wipe but it's a tiny amount, you're just drying off. Presumably your toilet roll isnt sopping wet after you wipe?

ChasingRainbows19 · 03/10/2020 21:29

Just been to aldi this evening. Well
Stocked with everything including toilet roll and pasta.
In fact I’ve not seen it low on stock at all recently.

Gymmummy1234 · 03/10/2020 22:18

Until I saw this post I didn't even realise I didn't find toilet rolls in the boot from OH collecting our Asda order earlier. Just looked online and they took them off the order and then looked and none in stock to collect from local Asda.
One toilet roll to last until we can pop to shops tomorrow.

Jenasaurus · 03/10/2020 22:21

I have IBS, so always like extra in stock but not more than an extra packet of 9, its worrying if people are stockiling again as others also with bowel conditions will be the ones to suffer, people are so selfish.

ISBN111 · 03/10/2020 22:44

We had to self isolate recently.
It was so expensive!
Normally we do a few shops per week and pick up reduced price items and know where to go for cheaper prices.
We were stuck with supermarket deliveries and it was so much more expensive!

For this reason we have done a certain amount of STOCKING UP, which is not the same as panic buying, but is a sensible course of action if you are on a budget and the extra costs of self isolating will be a strain.
