Who is buying all the bog roll, again!? Why? Why do people fear running out of bog roll so much. Now need to waste the day trying to buy some 🤬

@Bwlch

Get cloth wipes and then you'll never have to worry again

I would worry about getting them clean. Yuk.

We use cloth wipes for urine and paper wipes for anything else. A tiny swipe of wee is mainly water and washes out easily.
romeolovedjulliet · 03/10/2020 10:51

preppers, bulk buyers, panic buyers, horders all those translate into selfish people in my book. some people need to stock i.e for medical reasons and i understand that but the rest of you...everyone else suffers as a result.

islockdownoveryet · 03/10/2020 10:58

Unless you live on a remote island with no access to the shops there is absolutely no need to bulk buy . We can all get to the shops minimum once a week and even if the whole family have to isolate get ill . I'm sure you know someone who can drop some toilet roll off for you .
I buy a pack of 9 they last me 2 weeks for a family of 4 so unless you are the Walton's I doubt you don't need to buy no more than 2 packs to last you a couple of weeks .
Of course someone will come on and say they do but if you have some condition that you use 2 toilet rolls a day then your toilet roll consumption won't be any different pre COVID or during so the quantity you buy shouldn't of changed .

Titterofwit · 03/10/2020 11:27

I am always bemused by the amount of toilet rolls sold by the Farmfoods shop in our town. They do deals of 3 packs of 18 for about £11 . Its reasonable quality and I buy it myself but dont really have space for more than 1 pack of 18 -although that isnt a problem as when DD is away from home we only use about 1 a week .
But it seems that every time I am in the shop there is someone with 2 trollies both loaded with toilet rolls and cans of coke . I hasten to add that this is a permanent feature of this shop and not confined to this year only. I often wonder why they need so much all at once since the shop has seemingly permanent offers of this sort so no need to hoard.

TheQueef · 03/10/2020 11:31

Regarding Amazon the bulk packs of Andrex are great BUT it isn't normal Andrex it's two ply.
Amazon own brand rolls are excellent, the eco ones included.

I often wonder why they need so much all at once since the shop has seemingly permanent offers of this sort so no need to hoard. People who don't do the weekly shop there so just stock up on certain things once a month or less? I do that at Aldi.

RedskyAtnight · 03/10/2020 11:34

@Rushjob

Cue the “I’m not a panic buyer, I’m a prepper” brigade.
The point of being a prepper is that you don't buy loo roll when everyone else is buying it. Preppers will have built up a stash of loo roll slowly (probably over a year or more) so no one noticed them buying it. This means they can use their stash at times like this, thereby reducing the pressure on scarce supply items so there is more for everyone else. If you're buying loo roll at the moment, or buying it in large quantities all at once, you are not a prepper.
SpookyNoise · 03/10/2020 11:34

I went to Lidl yesterday and the loo roll aisle was full of loo roll. No panic buying going on here.

AviceCaro · 03/10/2020 11:37

I use cut up old face cloths for wees, store the used ones in a small lidded bucket in the bathroom and wash them on a hot wash with Napisan - it's fab stuff.

MrsFezziwig · 03/10/2020 11:38

So instead of quietly trying another shop (I use several shops for different things and haven’t been in a single shop over the past week that was out of toilet roll, B & M in particular was piled to the rafters) you’ve posted on here so actually made the situation worse, so way to go OP.

I often wonder if threads like these are started by toilet roll manufacturers who need to shift surplus stock.

SeekingAnswers3 · 03/10/2020 11:42

In my area I went shopping at Aldi last night at 9pm. They had loads of everything. Either they had restocked or people aren’t panic buying here

MrsFezziwig · 03/10/2020 11:44

preppers, bulk buyers, panic buyers, horders all those translate into selfish people in my book.

Selfish people in my book are those who make no preparation for a situation where they might potentially have to isolate for 2-3 weeks but expect other people to bale them out.

Dim people are those who don’t understand the difference between the terms you have referenced.

OverTheRainbow88 · 03/10/2020 11:45

I wonder if it depends on areas as I’m going shopping twice a week, once for a big weekly shop and the second for a top up of milk etc and I’ve not noticed any shortage of anything in the big supermarket I do the big shop in and out local corner shop.

beachedwhales · 03/10/2020 11:48

@SnuggyBuggy

We get that who gives a crap paper that comes in huge boxes, not sure if that counts as panic buying or prepping.
We get that as well, it's cheaper and more cost effective.
Yesterdayforgotten · 03/10/2020 11:49

It's so annoying as if people just bought what they normally do there wouldnt be shortages of anything! When we were in Costco acouple of weeks ago they had bulk toilet rolls on offer (the offer was put on just before the second wave) One package of rolls is more than enough to last an average family a good year or so and the member of staff was telling people to get 2 before they run out!Angry

bathsh3ba · 03/10/2020 11:50

The supermarket I went to yesterday only had 18 roll packs left.

valtandsinegar · 03/10/2020 11:51

Aldi had loads when I went yesterday at around 12pm. All the different size packs and qualities.

OohThatCat · 03/10/2020 11:54

Just use Who Gives a Crap, straight to your door, no fuss and lasts ages. I haven't bought loo roll from a supermarket at all since I started with it.

OohThatCat · 03/10/2020 11:55

I am seeing an advert for Who Gives a Crap right next to this thread as well :D

JonHammIsMyJamm · 03/10/2020 12:03

After the last panic buyers fiasco, I moved over to bulk packs on subscribe and save too. Kitchen roll & loo roll. I wouldn’t describe myself as a prepper or a panic buyer. We don’t have a stock of other food or products ‘just in case’ and I don’t stockpile the rolls, it is timed so that the next lot comes as we are down to the final pack of the previous delivery.

Buying more when it's on offer is cheaper in the long run. Many people buy enough of certain non perishables to last until the next time it's on offer. The shops are to blame if they are encouraging people to buy more and then there are shortages.
movingonup20 · 03/10/2020 12:08

Plenty on the shelves yesterday. There was not a shortage of anything but Dijon mustard yesterday (well it had run out!)

Ariela · 03/10/2020 12:10

I blame social media. Round here the local Facebook pages have banned all posts about shortages and deliveries. All 3 supermarkets I might visit all have excellent stocks of everything and don't run out.

Ihatemyseleffordoingthis · 03/10/2020 12:14

there's no issue with shortages round here.
slightly rough north liverpool.
we get WGAC though, because Eco/cheaper/don't have to keep thinking about it

Haribo1985 · 03/10/2020 12:14

Very much hoping the picture attaches... possibly the best advert placement I've ever seen! Grin
