Who is buying all the bog roll, again!? Why? Why do people fear running out of bog roll so much. Now need to waste the day trying to buy some 🤬

I don't get how some people are supposed to prepared for a 14 day quarantine at any time without a degree of stocking up. We don't all have someone to shop for us or reliable deliveries

barbites · 04/10/2020 10:16

@SnuggyBuggy but that's always been a possibility and I've managed to get 9 loo rolls every week for a while now! Now suddenly they are out of stock in my Tesco...and I live in the south!

I never bought a single excess toilet roll last time. I'm considering doing it now because it looks like I'm going to be looking at empty shelves again.

I think that's why people do it.

vera99 · 04/10/2020 10:46

Get one of these fitted and you will never look back. Can't be doing with too much loo roll now. Just a couple of sheets to dry off and you are baby bottom clean. Good for haemorrhoids as well.

Oh dear not again! I have to go shopping for the week today. Let's see the state they left the place in. Las time I could not find toilet roll, kitchen roll, pasta, flour, tinned food!

Bloody preppers. Grin

@Tomatoesneedtoripen

we had plenty in the spring but it was awful in the retirement home i visited. think of others
Retirement homes shouldn't be buying it from retail stores anyway & there was no problem with production.
Tomatoesneedtoripen · 04/10/2020 11:56

retirement homes, the residents buy their own,
this is retirement living, rather than residential

i believe

@MrsFezziwig

preppers, bulk buyers, panic buyers, horders all those translate into selfish people in my book.

Selfish people in my book are those who make no preparation for a situation where they might potentially have to isolate for 2-3 weeks but expect other people to bale them out.

Dim people are those who don’t understand the difference between the terms you have referenced.

Exactly!!
GarlicSoup · 04/10/2020 13:19

@Rushjob

Cue the “I’m not a panic buyer, I’m a prepper” brigade.
Cue all the ‘I don’t understand the difference between panic buying and prepping’ brigade.
Aridane · 04/10/2020 14:03

(the degree of self righteousness, I would suggest )

By next week you won't be able to move for the stuff with supermarket aisles filled to the rafters with double-ply full-on quilted luxury 96 packs.

DeliciouslyFemale · 04/10/2020 15:07

I only read these threads in order to laugh at the stupidity of people not knowing the difference between preppers and panic buyers. 😁 Before the pandemic the same people were probably laughing at the preppers (they used to visit the prepper threads just to tell us we were all ‘nutters’), now many of the same posters are directing their anger towards us because we had plenty of supplies in.

Before Pandemic, preppers were ‘nutters’, surrounded by food they’d never eat.

During pandemic, preppers are now selfish because they’re organised, but somehow it’s still their fault that none preppers are now panic buying. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Buy on the dips - boom and bust. How did my late mum and dad (god rest their souls) ever get through the ww2 I'll never know. One censored letter back to his mum for 6 years whilst he was away on active service at the age of 22. Wink

Plenty in my Tesco yesterday

ancientgran · 04/10/2020 16:40

I normally get a weekly delivery from Sainsburys, haven't needed loo roll lately as I have 3 loos and normally buy 9 or 12 packs and have one in each loo so they last ages. I had to go to Lidl yesterday as I ran out of bread, yes GS who seems to eat half a loaf at a time was here, and I noticed they had plenty of loo roll, pasta and flour. I didn't need loo roll or pasta but I did grab a bag of flour as I am running low. Not panic buying as I just won't add it to my list for Tuesday delivery as the last time I had it delivered the bag was torn and when I lifted it I got covered so it seemed sensible to just pick one up.

They didn't seem to be out of anything but the kitchen rolls looked a bit low.

ancientgran · 04/10/2020 16:53

I would love to know why toilet roll is the item of choice though. Why toilet roll?! For me it is tea bags, I couldn't cope with lockdown without tea. I bought an extra box of 480 tea bags this week, I don't mind if people shout at me they can have my share of toilet rolls, meat, alcohol, cigarettes, anything they want but I need tea.

Yesterdayforgotten · 04/10/2020 16:54

'possibility and I've managed to get 9 loo rolls every week for a while now! Now suddenly they are out of stock in my Tesco...and I live in the south!'

Probably because of people 'stocking up.'

giantangryrooster · 04/10/2020 17:02

Mumsnetters' obsession with who is buying loo roll the correct way in the correct amounts is starting to get a little old, don't you think? Smile

JanewaysBun · 04/10/2020 19:20

@gamerchick me too! I've got either copper or iron and basicslly plumbers hate them. So when I'm shopping I need the thin stuff! I wish WGAC would do 2 ply!

suziesue45 · 04/10/2020 19:29

I was in tesco yesterday, they had loads so I managed to get my usual pack of 9, that will last us a month. They had a good selection of most things so I was quite lucky to get everything i went for.
