BJ to hold press conference with Chris Whitty and Patrick Vallance tomorrow - new restrictions to be announced perhaps?

@herecomesthsun

I see they avoided slipping it in before Bake Off this time Smile
They probably don't want another Matt Lucas special Grin
everythingthelighttouches · 29/09/2020 16:33

No sooner had I got the words out of my mouth!

7143 cases today
71 deaths

SheepandCow · 29/09/2020 16:42

Is there a way of knowing where in the country the deaths are occurring?

poshme · 29/09/2020 16:42

I'll be pissed off if they ban any household mixing nationally.
Our area the numbers are very very low.

dontcallmelen · 29/09/2020 16:43

@RafaIsTheKingOfClay

Pointing the finger at vallance, who doesn’t actually make the decisions, while ignoring the £3.8 billion that went into ‘companies’ run by close contacts of the government is rather missing the point. Even for critics of vallance.

If we’re going to get rid of vallance, then we should get rid of Cummings, Johnson & almost the entire cabinet as well. And Dido Harding.

This thousand times over, appears as though no one gives a fuck about this & as for Dido I have no words that could possibly convey the contempt. Testing capacity for London, was shifted to other hotspot areas in the country that’s why the numbers are no wear near a true reflection of what’s going on here in London, yy February & March all over again.
herecomesthsun · 29/09/2020 16:46

@dumbeddown

its most probably just to announce another new sloganHmm
Face Space Testing's a Disgrace?
HeyMacarona · 29/09/2020 16:47

Out of the 74 deaths today

21 NE
24 NW

BarefootHippieChick · 29/09/2020 16:47

everything today is supposedly the highest number of cases since the outbreak began...

kirinm · 29/09/2020 16:49

@BarefootHippieChick

everything today is supposedly the highest number of cases since the outbreak began...
Only because of testing. They think there were c100k cases per day during the peak but obviously they were only carrying out testing in hospitals then.
SheepandCow · 29/09/2020 16:50

@poshme

How do you know? Given the testing shambles.

Even if you're right, don't you want to keep it that way? Or would you prefer to wait until you have high numbers. Shutting the stable door after the horse has bolted.

We had 71 deaths announced today. One month ago (around the time most would've caught it) the numbers might have officially been 'very very low' where those poor people lived.

everythingthelighttouches · 29/09/2020 16:50

barefoot highest number of recorded Cases

BarefootHippieChick · 29/09/2020 16:53

Ah thank you, I'll admit I only scanned the headline!

PhilCornwall1 · 29/09/2020 17:02

Whatever is said, you can guarantee it'll be another load of bollocks.

PhilCornwall1 · 29/09/2020 17:04

Fwiw I don't think it's especially such a big deal re Vallance and his shares. It's no surprising a scientist holds shares in a pharmaceutical company. He'll know these companies are generally good investments.

And the absolutely massive salary he earned from the company too.

kittensarecute · 29/09/2020 17:09

Unless it's announcing that a vaccine is going to be rolled out from Thursday so we can get back to normal life with no silly restrictions, I'm really not interested.

alreadytaken · 29/09/2020 17:28

The percentage of tests that are positive is so high in parts of the country (Liverpool as an example) that it's likely lots of cases are being missed now. There probably are not as many as in March/April but the daily figures for infections is much higher than the number being reported. The Zoe ap has been suggesting much higher figures.

ifonly4 · 29/09/2020 18:25

I think it's a review and general talking to, or a complete social lockdown for a while. If it's only for a particular area, then they'd do what they've done for the north east.

mxjones · 29/09/2020 18:37

Face Space Testing's a Disgrace?

Covid, you're a virus, make a big noise
Spreading in the street, gonna be a big pandemic someday
You got mud on your face, you big disgrace
Kicking your bugs all over the place, singin'
Face, space, testings a disgrace
We will, we will lock you down
We will, we will lock you down
Covid, you're a young bug, hard bug
Shouting in the street, gonna take on the world someday
You got blood on your face, you big disgrace
Waving your banner all over the place
We will, we will lock you down, sing it!
We will, we will lock you down, yeah
Boris, you're an old man, poor man
Pleading with your eyes, gonna get you some peace someday
You got mud on your face, big disgrace
Somebody better put you back into your place, do it!
We will, we will lock you, yeah, yeah, come on
We will, we will lock you, alright, louder!
We will, we will lock you, one more time
We will, we will lock you
Yeah

Jourdain11 · 29/09/2020 18:40

*London lockdown to include:

No mixing at all with other households*

Unless your going to work, or school, or spending money.

Seriously? It's a total piss-take and I just won't and can't do it.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 29/09/2020 18:43

Face Space Testing's a Disgrace?

Too many words. Got to keep it to 3. ‘Testing’s a disgrace’ would work.

Concerned7777 · 29/09/2020 18:47

Surely they cant be announcing more restrictions already without chance to see if the latest restrictions make a difference first

Ihatemyseleffordoingthis · 29/09/2020 18:54

As I said upthread, CEO of local council and Leader have tweeted today to expect additional restrictions where we are, which is Liverpool-ish.

I doubt there will be any national restrictions tomorrow, hopefully, but possibly socusers/general North being used as object lesson for everyone else?

Sallycinnamum · 29/09/2020 19:07

As @Hullabaloo31 said the government were quite emphatic in saying that additional restrictions won't be announced tomorrow.

Suki2 · 29/09/2020 19:50

SummerHouse (p2) your post made me laugh; you're spot on.

kittensarecute · 29/09/2020 19:53

@Sallycinnamum

As *@Hullabaloo31* said the government were quite emphatic in saying that additional restrictions won't be announced tomorrow.
If they do, that'll be my mental health completely fucked.
