BJ to hold press conference with Chris Whitty and Patrick Vallance tomorrow - new restrictions to be announced perhaps?

Yes, that is what we understand.

London lockdown to include:

No mixing at all with other households
Essential use of public transport
Closure of pubs and restaurants

2 weeks initially.

Liverpool and other cities could also included.

BrazenlyDefying · 29/09/2020 14:32

If Nicola Sturgeon can spin the statistics and rules out for 45 minutes, 5 times a week, I'm sure between the three of them they can manage a weekly press conference no bother.

Part of being a politician is the ability to speak lots, but actually say very little.

Friendsoftheearth · 29/09/2020 14:34

I am in the wrong job!

BIWI · 29/09/2020 14:35

@Rushjob

That job needs to be done by someone neutral, Whitty isn’t

What do you mean?

Sallycinnamum · 29/09/2020 14:38

@Friendsoftheearth we had a crisis meeting at work this morning and were told that all indications are that London will not be going into lockdown anytime soon and the rule of 6 is likely to be remaining for at least the next two weeks.

pussycatinboots · 29/09/2020 14:38

@herecomesthsun

I see they avoided slipping it in before Bake Off this time Smile
That was sublime last week! I haven't laughed so much for a very long time.

As long as BJ is in No 10, Matt Lucas will have gainful employment 🤣🤣

SummerHouse · 29/09/2020 14:40

Whitty looks like a deeply ashamed parent.

DumplingsAndStew · 29/09/2020 14:41

Hopefully no mixing of households like has been forced upon others with lower case levels.

Lurkingforawhile · 29/09/2020 14:45

I completely missed this - what time tomorrow is the presser? I have no idea what will be said but really hope we’re allowed to visit our relatives in Devon this weekend, just looking forward to seeing someone else!

kirinm · 29/09/2020 15:03

The numbers in London aren't that bad - certainly can't see how they can justify shutting anything else down.

Fyzz · 29/09/2020 15:05

i can't find it now but I did read somewhere there was a plan to re-instate the regular Downing Street briefings.

I think this would be a good idea if done weekly instead of daily.

Fyzz · 29/09/2020 15:06

Actually just before Bake Off might capture the maximum audience. Grin

18eggs · 29/09/2020 15:06

It’s a two week review of the Rule of 6, isn’t it?

hamstersarse · 29/09/2020 15:10

Unbalance and Whitless lost all credibility at their last outing

They probably want to deliver some 'good' news but once trust is broken.....it's hard to repair.

Friendsoftheearth · 29/09/2020 15:10

sally That is interesting, as we have been told the opposite! Our return to the office cancelled, colleagues moving here from Paris cancelled and our understanding is a London lockdown (of sorts) is imminent.

Fyzz · 29/09/2020 15:12

Why on earth would they lock London down when there are many, many parts of the UK with much higher rates that are not locked down?

Sallycinnamum · 29/09/2020 15:18

@Friendsoftheearth tbh the advice is changing so frequently i take it all with a pinch of salt!

Friendsoftheearth · 29/09/2020 15:20

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-54324244

I am assuming because the cases are rising rapidly in East London especially (68 cases per 100,000) the boroughs should be under 20 cases per 100,000 for the virus to be considered under control.

The number of 111 calls, internet searches and other means in London, along with the positive cases rising now and hospital admissions going up is causing some alarm.

Given our transport network and density, I imagine they are keen to get the virus under control in London whilst they still can. If we manage to contain it now, we can avoid a nasty second wave.

Friendsoftheearth · 29/09/2020 15:22

sally Quite! I have just been sent my office covid pack all organised for the return!! So fat lot of use that will be now.

Very very much hope they keep restaurants open at least, even if they close the bars. Although word on the street is that London hotels have been told to hold off on bookings, so maybe not.

Ihatemyseleffordoingthis · 29/09/2020 15:24

I'm in Merseyside (so currently under restrictions) and local council leader has jsut put out a statement saying to expect further measures

Could be full "circuit break" or no mixing/pubs
Ridiculous situation with schools needs sorting to p/t Covid in all three of my kid's schools ATM
Expect London to be put into restrictions as well

KatherineJaneway · 29/09/2020 15:29

@Fyzz

Why on earth would they lock London down when there are many, many parts of the UK with much higher rates that are not locked down?
I assume to stop it getting that far. Rates in my borough are rising rapidly over the past few weeks.
ILikeTrains · 29/09/2020 15:30

I know this is all speculative but what is likely to happen with the transport system in London if they do go into lockdown? Did it still run during the last lockdown?

Frazzled2207 · 29/09/2020 15:32

cases seem to be levelling off a bit so I don't think any new restrictions. I would hope he is taking the time to clarify/discuss the restrictions as they are as even he is currently confused by them given his tweets earlier.
They should return to weekly IMO.
