Anyone haven’t/not been on uk holiday this year at all?

If not, what are the reasons?

We haven't, not willing to spend money on something where there are restrictions. We've spent the money on renovating the house instead.

Atomsaway · 27/09/2020 11:55

No, there’s no point. Places locking down here, there and everywhere.
CV has taken the joy out of everything.

exiledfromcornwall · 27/09/2020 11:55

We haven't been anywhere this year, and I speak as someone who loves my holidays and breaks. The main reason is obviously covid. It's not so much that I am worried about catching it, I just can't see the pleasure of going away with the way everything is now. We are not the type to rent a cottage in the middle of nowhere and self-cater, we like discovering the local pubs and restaurants, and it is such a pain to have to keep booking everywhere, ditto attractions. There's no spontaneity, covid has sucked the joy out of everything. So I am using this year to catch up on my mountain of books, watch loads of stuff on streaming iplayer, Netflix etc. However I am damned if I am going to spend another year like this.

Flaunch · 27/09/2020 11:56

Haven’t been anywhere. Can’t see the point of going away and not being able to do anything.

Freshprincess · 27/09/2020 12:00

Me
Mostly begin cautious about spending money as I was furloughed for all of the summer, then made redundant.

Just started a new job, so don’t have holidays.

1990shopefulftm · 27/09/2020 12:03

we haven't, I'm pregnant and at the point we originally planned to go somewhere it was just after hotels were opening up and i knew i wouldn't forgive myself if we got ill from going somewhere we didn't need to.

DoTheNextRightThing · 27/09/2020 12:03

Nope. No holiday of any description. I went to London at the end of last year, and thank god because otherwise it'd be well over a year since I went anywhere.

DoTheNextRightThing · 27/09/2020 12:04

The reason is that I don’t want my holiday cancelled at the last minute due to lockdown.

PolarBearStrength · 27/09/2020 12:04

I’d imagine the majority haven’t. Holidays are a luxury, not a given.

We had three (non-uk) trips planned for races this spring/summer and they all got cancelled. We didn’t organise anything else because of all of the uncertainty and DH behind furloughed making money a bit tight.

trappedsincesundaymorn · 27/09/2020 12:06

Nope. Redundancy has a side effect of not having any money for luxuries.

Viv0321 · 27/09/2020 12:07

Sorry for everyone that’s been furloughed or made redundant.

I'm in Leicester, it's only in the last few weeks that we've been allowed to leave the city for anything other than 'essential' reasons and we're still classed as a lockdown city so lots of places don't want us to visit.

We'd usually book a long weekend for between Xmas and New Years but it's just not worth booking at the moment as in all likelihood it will be cancelled or local restrictions would mean we can't do anything.

Toothsil · 27/09/2020 12:08

We haven't - we cancelled our summer UK holiday because it was when things were just opening back up again and a lot of what we wanted to do wouldn't have been open yet, plus we were nervous. We have another UK self catering holiday booked at half term, which has been booked for a year, but I can't see it happening.

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 27/09/2020 12:09

We had one booked for May, the park was closed so had to defer to next year. Might go away in October if work commitments allow.

Ginfilledcats · 27/09/2020 12:10

Was pregnant during main part of pandemic, had holiday booked to Spanish islands this week but was cancelled, so booked a big house in the lakes, but cancelled due to rule of 6, so booked centre parcs but cancelled due to mixing of households.

BeyondMyWits · 27/09/2020 12:12

Not going away anywhere that is less inviting than home. Less to do activity wise, restaurants/pubs need booking, masks, etc etc.

Why pay good money to be less comfortable than at home.

SisyphusAndTheRockOfUntidiness · 27/09/2020 12:14

No. We didn't actually plan to go on holiday this year as we were forced to move house, the landlord made us move out as they wanted to sell, we'd known for a few months but hadn't been able to find anything as I'm disabled & we're on a low income. We were homeless for a while but now in HA housing (woohoo - much more stable!) Moved into the house barely before lockdown happened.

Ironically the old house didn't sell, went back on the rental market with a perfunctory paint job (I bet they still didn't sort the mould or window frames though) & it's still empty. Probably because they hiked the rent by 50%. It's massively overpriced compared to anything else locally. Things were pretty crap for a while - we had to cope with no oven, fridge, freezer, washing machine or carpets for the first few weeks - but we're ok now. Although the gas hob still doesn't work! Grin And we still need to pay the outstanding rent for the shelter but no-one will get back to me about it.

I get a bit peeved when I see people moaning about how they "need" a holiday. That's in the category of Things That Are Nice To Have.

NeverForgetYourDreams · 27/09/2020 12:14

Me. We've done nothing this year apart from one day trip. It's pants. All holidays cancelled to 2021. Fingers crossed

DamitJanet · 27/09/2020 12:14

No. Live in a beautiful area with consistently low COVID rates so far so no reason to go anywhere. Wouldn’t travel abroad at the moment either.

Pelleas · 27/09/2020 12:15

No. We normally go in July and book the holiday in May. When May came around it wasn't certain holidays would be possible. By the time lockdown was lifted to allow them, it was too late for us to book - I did look but everything was getting snapped up and prices were sky high - I wasn't going to pay 5 x what I normally pay for accommodation when lots of things we'd normally use would be closed anyway.

Note - that's not a dig at holiday accommodation owners - I understand the laws of supply and demand and the need to make up for lost revenue over lockdown.

amusedtodeath1 · 27/09/2020 12:15

We haven't, I just didn't think it would be enjoyable, better to save the money just in case, I thought.

LilyLongJohn · 27/09/2020 12:18

We haven't, we had two weeks in Scotland booked in April but had to reschedule that for October. Now with the lockdown looming again this is in question. I've been working flat out all through, as has my dh so any time off has been few and far between. I had a week off in June as I 'had' to take time off work, but we stayed at home.

If we don't manage to go away in October we'll look at going away for two weeks over xmas

Wherearefoxssocks · 27/09/2020 12:19

We're due to go to the Lakes next weekend. Was originally booked for April. Really hoping we can still go!

felineflutter · 27/09/2020 12:23

I have had a couple of weekend breaks. We usually have a nice UK cottage holiday but didn't bother this year. We have spent the money making the house and garden nice for winter.
