Anyone haven’t/not been on uk holiday this year at all?

If not, what are the reasons?

OP posts:

we where away for the weekend at new year and after lockdown lifted we went for a week away (desperately needed) and we had our minimoon after our legal wedding which was 5 days in a cabin

I NEED to get away, I work from home normally... my entire life is staring at these 4 walls day in day out and a lick of paint doesnt fix the monotony

we havent gone far though just the next county over - as much as we are over due an abroad holiday I wouldnt go abroad right now, we are from a small village with low rates and ruled out going to scotland/wales due to different regulations and we avoid big cities or hotspots

We haven’t, we didn’t have a holiday last year due to finances. This year we had a family holiday to France planned for May but that was obviously cancelled. Decluttering the house, hiring a skip and buying some new furniture seemed a better use of the money. Restrictions have taken the enjoyment out of trying to have fun but I’m comfortable in my misery in my new bed!

BlusteryShowers · 28/09/2020 14:38

We haven't as we've had a baby and I'm not remotely interested in taking her on holiday until she's older.

We were talking about staying over at a theme park for one midweek term time night with our three year old son but they're operating reduced opening so it wasn't going to work. We didn't want to go when it would be busy.

wheresmymojo · 28/09/2020 15:59

Nope.

Both lost our jobs - have set up new businesses over lockdown but we don't have consistent income yet...

Flev · 28/09/2020 16:35

We have a week booked in October to finally see my family who are 200 miles away, and we've not seen them since last Christmas - an absolute eternity when you have a toddler! Not been able to go sooner as I let other colleagues with school age children have time off in the summer holidays rather than take it myself. Now it looks more and more likely we're not going to get that break if things lock down further.

slidingdrawers · 28/09/2020 16:44

No holiday here either.

Why? Because a holiday is a want not a need. It's a small sacrifice to make when we are living with a highly infectious virus spread by us.

AuntieMarys · 28/09/2020 16:48

No.
6 holidays/breaks cancelled.

ragged · 28/09/2020 18:34

Funny thingi s we normally don't do UK hols, I go see my family far overseas instead mostly. So this was novel, to go somewhere within 200 miles. So glad we went. I am an anti-homebody & WFT is tough.

Gillian1980 · 28/09/2020 19:07

Nope, we’ve not been anywhere.

I’d not find it relaxing at all so it’d feel like a waste of time and money to me. I’d rather chill out at home.

But I am really looking forward to having some kind of holiday when it feels worth it.

LolaLollypop · 28/09/2020 19:45

We’ve been to Cornwall for a week and camping twice. All great breaks even with Covid restrictions. We’re also booked to go to Snowdonia on Saturday. Hoping the rest of Wales doesn’t get locked down!
I’ve really enjoyed my UK breaks this summer. Hasn’t done much for my tan though Grin

Suzi888 · 28/09/2020 19:46

Nope, we booked to go abroad and it got cancelled. Didn’t want to risk the disappointment again.

NameChange84 · 28/09/2020 19:49

Nope.

I don’t generally “holiday” in the U.K. but I would typically have been on a couple of weekend trips that usually involve a concert or west end show. Obviously they aren’t on.

I was also in the Shielding category and I’m in a local lockdown area. Tourist areas are overrun and don’t feel safe. Holidays can wait. My health comes first.

CousinKrispy · 28/09/2020 20:27

I haven't, I don't drive and haven't felt comfortable taking public transport for a holiday under the circumstances. But I've enjoyed having some quiet time at home.

WokesFromHome · 28/09/2020 20:30

No, not been on holiday since July 1999. We had a holiday booed at Easter and would have gone away in summer but both not possible. We have a holiday that looks unlikely this Christmas too,. Getting massively fed up with cancelling, but can also see why going would be pointless.

OrangeSamphire · 28/09/2020 20:34

We haven't. Because we live in Cornwall and we would normally go on holiday locally camping in May and June - because we love Cornwall and because both our children have disabilities so it's easier to stay close to home. But May and June was still lockdown.

And my DD was in hospital for 9 weeks.

When lockdown ended, and DD finally was discharged, Cornwall was over-run with tourists and there were no camp sites left to book.

So that's that until 2021.

SallySeven · 28/09/2020 20:37

No.
Self catering is not a holiday imo and I couldn't see much alternative to that.

sansou · 28/09/2020 23:44

Weekend glamping was our one opportunity to see close family in the last 9 mths! We basically stayed on a farmer’s field in an expensive tent but at least, we were able to meet other family members outdoors. Hoping our Oct HT break will go ahead (just over an hr away by the sea). SC is fine - just want a different set of walls and a different daily walk even if we have gales. The holiday let is completely booked up for every school holiday date next year so any deferment would have to be for 2022!

Mosasaur · 28/09/2020 23:52

We haven’t. We can’t afford to lose money if it’s cancelled. We can’t afford to catch Covid and be off work. And it isn’t exactly enjoyable, what with having to wear masks and repeatedly sanitise hands and mile long queues everywhere. Also no breakfast buffets which is the best bit of staying in a hotel!

BritWifeinUSA · 29/09/2020 03:57

Currently in Mexico. Our trip to Hawaii (which is the same country as where we live) was cancelled but we can go to Mexico with no restrictions. That doesn’t make any sense to me but enjoying the holiday.

Crunchymum · 29/09/2020 08:06

We had 5 days away (UK seaside) in early September. Wouldn't have gone with the current restrictions in place.

We ate out a few times (weather was nice enough for outdoor tables) but mainly just did our own thing - beaches, walks, rockpooling)

Was first family break in many, many years but I only booked as kids school opened a few days later than planned so we managed to avoid the busy period (went 31st Aug - 6th Sept and they went back on 7th!!)
