Anyone haven’t/not been on uk holiday this year at all?

If not, what are the reasons?

OP posts:
User82517 · 27/09/2020 15:01

Nope, didn't go last year either. DHs children started living with us 2.5 years ago so we can't really afford to go away any more.

Okaro · 27/09/2020 15:04

We haven’t! Sad we had many holidays booked this year most were cancelled and the others we have cancelled. Not going anywhere while there is so many restrictions in place.

luckylavender · 27/09/2020 15:11

Are you a journalist OP? The reasons don't need spelling out do they?

MayFayre · 27/09/2020 15:11

Us.

Couldn’t decide where to go in the summer so hadn’t got round to booking anything when Covid kicked off.

Had a long weekend in Berlin booked for the Easter holidays which was cancelled.

Underhisi · 27/09/2020 15:12

We live close to a national park and prefer day trips to there so rarely go on holiday. We usually do a few days near my parents but this year I went on my own on a day trip when the cases were lower and probably won't do the trip again until next summer

ginsparkles · 27/09/2020 15:14

Not been on a holiday at all this year. Too much uncertainty, the rules can tighten in an instant. Happier being at home and doing days out.

Marmaladey · 27/09/2020 16:09

It didn't really seem worth it. Didn't want to go abroad as I've got kids who struggle to wear masks so the plane would have been a no go. Going somewhere in the UK seemed like it would just be a hassle. Having to book everything in advance. Thinking about where to eat out. It was just easier to stay at home and do some nice days out. At least then we could come back to our house with our stuff.

I haven't missed it that much, to be honest.

KateF · 27/09/2020 16:17

I haven't been on holiday for 8 years. I can't afford it, hate crowds at airports, on trains etc and have a dog who would be miserable in kennels. I don't miss it at all.

HeyMacarona · 27/09/2020 16:27

No holiday here. Usually do a couple of cruises and Cornwall, no chance of cruises. Could have done Cornwall but wasn’t prepared to pay out the money when it would be jam packed and restricted plus worried too much about staying in accommodation that had lots of other people in before me.

AuditAngel · 27/09/2020 16:31

We had 2 holidays booked abroad which were cancelled. My sister lives in the West Country, we visited her, but it wasn’t what I would all a holiday

EternalOptimist7 · 27/09/2020 16:32

We booked a mini glamping trip but cancelled as DD11 refused to go. Didn’t even do daytrips this year. Holidays are tricky anyway with DD. Our first foreign holiday with her turned out to be incredibly difficult & DH was ready to fly home halfway through the week!

deflationexasperation · 27/09/2020 16:34

We got away for 3 nights. It was joyful, oh to be bedside the sea, fresh sea air, dc paddling, running wild.

dementedma · 27/09/2020 16:35

Long weekend in France (to visit very sick friend) and short break in Poland both cancelled.
Work trips to London, Orkney and Outer Hebrides all cancelled.
No trips to Liverpool for the menfolk as not allowed in to watch the footy.

So no, no holidays or breaks for fairly obvious reasons.

Bernardstolemywatch · 27/09/2020 17:30

Nope, I had 16 forced weeks off due to Covid and I’m on maternity leave in Nov. I’m self employed and just can’t take the time off during the short window I’m back.

NeedWineNow · 27/09/2020 17:43

We had holidays cancelled this year. We had a couple of days away last week for our anniversary but even then that was only about 30mins away for a lovely lunch out and a break. We've both decided that we'd like to retire at the end of next year so we're reining in our spending to enable us to do that.

vanillandhoney · 27/09/2020 17:46

We haven't.

We're both self-employed and we decided it wasn't worth the risk. We already don't get paid if we take holiday, but the additional risk of getting our accommodation or flight cancelled, plus the risk of having to isolate on top is just too risky for us. We can't afford for us both to take several weeks off work, unpaid.

We've done local days out instead and both have two weeks booked off for Christmas as well, but we won't be travelling anywhere or staying away overnight.

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 27/09/2020 17:56

Didn’t seem any point to booking one. I’d rather stay home and save the money towards one when it’s much safer. We like to do no cooking etc on holiday but eating out is too risky at the moment we feel so no point going away.

coronafiona · 27/09/2020 18:03

Us. Weather was good enough to stay home, everything was closed in hol destinations, and it was eye wateringly expensive- over £1500 for a poxy caravan! No way am I paying that

Skyechasemarshalontheway · 27/09/2020 18:03

We had 3 holidays booked this year pre covid appearing but moved them all to next year hoping this eases.
My husband is still furloughed although job is secure we still didn't want to spend money until things settle.

whiteroseredrose · 27/09/2020 18:07

We went to Iceland this summer, rearranged from Easter. Nothing in the UK though. We're now in a local restricted area and take our rules with us so it's not worth it.

Frouby · 27/09/2020 18:13

We haven't. We usually go to Tenerife just before Christmas but won't be bothering this year. Did wonder about booking a UK caravan holiday but everything was horrendously expensive and didn't want the faff of booking etc and the weather wasn't brilliant in August which is when we would have gone.

We've had a nice 6 months exploring our local area tho, walks, we ate out a good few times, we have an allotment, and ponies (kept on a yard not on the allotment) and do watersports so have had lots of wholesome outdoors activities anyway.

Chaotic45 · 27/09/2020 18:23

I'm currently in a beautiful part of Wales. It's not a holiday as such- I'm here to sort a loved ones Estate and need to be here to sort things.

It's wonderful to get a change of scene, and I've had some fantastic walks, but I'm finding staying in a hotel extremely strange and quite stressful. I wanted an air bnb but everything was booked up, so am paying extortionate prices for a very average hotel. I'd usually be fine here, but I'd rather be at home tbh.

Itsabeautifuldayheyhey · 27/09/2020 18:28

I haven't. I have some time off in both October and November and would like to go to Scottish Highlands. Worried about Nicola banning Sassenachs or not being able to eat anywhere.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 27/09/2020 18:30

No holidays at all this year.

JamieLeeCurtains · 27/09/2020 18:35

I got kidnapped by aliens, OP, so didn't quite manage it.
