Anyone haven’t/not been on uk holiday this year at all?

If not, what are the reasons?

We went away in early January but no more holidays for us this year. The concept of travelling around the country or even abroad during a pandemic is ridiculous obviously, irrespective of what’s been ‘allowed’.

Good grief. We haven't been on holiday for 5 years, let alone this year.
Not everyone can afford it.

Giggorata · 27/09/2020 13:56

No, and I'm a bit worried about not going up to our cottage for ages, but we don't want to get stuck there in a lockdown situation.

Pangwin · 27/09/2020 14:03

No we haven't been on holiday this year, and we're not planning anything for next year either. We decided not to go anywhere because 1) we didn't want to spend money on a holiday where there were restrictions on where we could go and what we could do 2) we didn't want to be close to hoards of other people 3) we didn't want to potentially spread our germs to other areas around the country 4) we didn't want to bring the virus back to our area which has always had a very low virus rates 5) it's the height of stupidity and selfishness to go on holiday during a pandemic. I don't care who takes objection to my opinion in point 5. If you went on holiday this summer either in this country or abroad then your are selfish through and through and have contributed to the massive rise in cases we're starting to see now. Dimwits.

SparklingLime · 27/09/2020 14:06

Haven’t been anywhere on holiday in 4 years.

MagpieSong · 27/09/2020 14:11

We haven’t. We don’t want to spread/get covid. We don’t have a car so would have to do public transport. We’d have to find a friend (hours away, no one here we know yet) to feed and care for animals while away. We’d rather wait until things are safer, I’m not pregnant and we can rely on it being more likely to happen when booking without extra restrictions (on us or a friend) making it impossible. We love swimming holidays, but I’m not comfortable with that at the moment, so we’re making the most of being at home and doing fun things here. We did camp in the garden for ages in the summer, which was good.

Tangfastica · 27/09/2020 14:12

We haven't. Spending money on doing up the house and baby on the way.

Abracadabra12345 · 27/09/2020 14:14

Obviously lots of people haven’t had a holiday though most people I know irl have, and all have made sensible, responsible choices of where to stay. I’ve been away several times and it’s been wonderful and uplifting but there again, I enjoy UK holidays as well as our annual one abroad. We too made sensible, responsible choices of where to stay and how to spend that time.

It’s been bloody lovely actually.

sunglasses123 · 27/09/2020 14:18

Rip off prices especially in Devon and Cornwall. Don’t want tourists but if we want to come they will massively increase prices. So went abroad with guaranteed sunshine. Prices and weather did it for me.

Sooverthemill · 27/09/2020 14:18

I haven't been on holiday since 2013. I wouldn't have gone this year even if there had been no restrictions. I care 24/7 for a very sick DD. It's just not feasible. It's shit but that's just the way life has worked out

Ylvamoon · 27/09/2020 14:23

Not yet, but we have a weekend booked in the Lake district for October.
All other holidays were cancelled and never really booked. We don't like crowds at the best of times... So we do everything possible to avoid!

TeaStory · 27/09/2020 14:26

We haven’t. I very rarely go on holidays anyway, it’s not a “normal” thing to me & it wasn’t something that my family did when I was growing up. It doesn’t really occur to me to book one.

amieejust · 27/09/2020 14:32

Both unemployed and also because of a global pandemic.

Even if we were earning, still wouldn't go away on holiday at the moment, not even in the UK.

unmarkedbythat · 27/09/2020 14:33

We haven't. We were going to a family wedding instead, but that obviously got cancelled due to covid. Then DH lost his job due to covid. So we have no money for extras. It is what it is, I've had worse times and at least I can meet our essential expenses. Holidays are not essential as much as people insist they are!

ihearttc · 27/09/2020 14:34

I usually go on at least 2 holidays abroad a year (DH worked in the ME until January) and a couple of U.K. breaks. We haven’t been anywhere this year because quite honestly I begrudge spending money on something which doesn’t feel much like a holiday. We had planned to perhaps go to Portugal over October half term when they removed the quarantine, DH and DS2 play golf and I thought it would be nice to have some sunshine but clearly not going now. We’d planned Florida again next Summer after DS1 did his GCSE’s next year but I can’t see that happening either.

LadyPenelope68 · 27/09/2020 14:38

No because I don’t think people should be travelling, plus I’m in the Clinically Vulnerable group so I don’t see the point of risking my health for a holiday.

Tappering · 27/09/2020 14:38

We haven't. Firstly, I don't want to go anywhere whilst local rules are changing so frequently. I don't want to stay in a strange cottage where I'll worry about how clean it is and whether the people there before us are infected with covid or not. I enjoy eating out rather than self catering - and we aren't eating out at the moment because it's not enjoyable at all. So it makes no sense for us to spend money to sit in someone else's house for a week. I'd rather stay at home and have my own bed and furniture, kitchen equipment etc.

Secondly DH lost his job at the start of lockdown. Luckily my wage covers everything but we're watching the pennies as it's tight. We could scrape together enough for a UK staycation if we wanted, but for reason one above, I don't see the point.

Jenasaurus · 27/09/2020 14:39

I cancelled my holiday to Croatia with my DD in June. I had booked it over a year ago and paid in full, but cancelled before Lockdown as I suspected it may not be cancelled but didnt fancy being at an airport as things were getting worse. I lost £400 but not the full amount as I cancelled before the just lose the deposit stage.

I am looking forward to when I can travel again, but part of the holiday is the anticipation of a relaxing fun time and at the moment any holiday I book, I will be anxious about so waiting for this to pass

Bollss · 27/09/2020 14:40

We haven't. Both our UK holidays were cancelled. Didn't bother re booking. Wouldn't enjoy having to pre book everything and be masked everywhere or be shamed for daring to go to a beach.

Bupkis · 27/09/2020 14:41

No holiday anywhere
Ds was shielding
Dh has been working throughout apart from self isolating and a few days after my mum died
Hoping we will be able to go somewhere next Summer.

randomsabreuse · 27/09/2020 14:45

We relocated so it's like being on holiday but with all the comforts of home. I'm not that sold on going on holiday for holiday's sake since we had the kids because mostly it's same shit, different location, less useful stuff, smaller accommodation...

Going skiing, walking, activity holiday makes sense, just going "somewhere" else not so much.

Ariela · 27/09/2020 14:49

We haven't, but we have so many animals we never do. Last went about 15 years ago. We do have the odd night or two away but that's it. And none of those in the last year.

thatonesmine · 27/09/2020 14:53

We had a week booked in a cottage in Suffolk in July but cancelled due to all the ongoing. Vaguely thought we might try and get something last minute in the autumn but won't be bothering given the current situation. We live adjacent to a national park so have been having lots of days out locally.

OohKittens · 27/09/2020 14:58

We usually do five 7 night butlins break (13yr old with asd is obsessed and luckily everyone else has come to love the place). But we were shielding because he has brittle asthma and he luckily understands the reasons we couldn't go.
