Anyone haven’t/not been on uk holiday this year at all?

If not, what are the reasons?

OP posts:
shesellsseashells99 · 27/09/2020 18:37

Nope, not even a night away...

Waxonwaxoff0 · 27/09/2020 18:38

I haven't because the holiday I had booked was during lockdown (easter) and moved to next year and I can't get any more time off work until after Christmas.

TheSunIsStillShining · 27/09/2020 18:40

no holiday, weekend away or just a few days in or out of the country.
Reason: well, you could say there is a pandemic going on.....

And yet our family is mentally okay, physically healthy and generally okay. Go figure you can live without a holiday.. who'd have thought?

Southernsoftie76 · 27/09/2020 18:42

No, we went away last year in the U.K. and decided to give it a miss this year anyway, the beach is at the end of our road so was going to enjoy ourselves for a couple of weeks at home which we did. Have paid a deposit on a cottage in Devon for next July though.

PickAChew · 27/09/2020 18:42

We haven't. We generally don't. 2 autistic teens and it's not in the least bit relaxing.

bigchris · 27/09/2020 18:43

We just aren't bothered about going on holiday

Lockdownfatigue · 27/09/2020 18:54

We haven’t. Didn’t think it was safe, everywhere was too busy, and the prices of UK holidays were astronomical once it became clear nobody could really go abroad.

cissyandbessy · 27/09/2020 18:56

No, often go away in my own but didn't feel Confident this year in case I got stuck somewhere. Flying makes me feel a bit icky coz of the ventilation issue and also zero proper time off work since March. Annual leave had to be taken in dribs and drabs. Am knackered tbh!

ancientgran · 27/09/2020 21:35

I live in South Devon, low cases here so doesn't seem sensible to go somewhere with a higher risk and we are a five minute drive to a nice beach so couldn't see the point.

starfish4 · 27/09/2020 21:59

No, Easter holiday cancelled before lockdown. A window of four days end May, no chance of anything half resembling a break then. Another window if 3/4days end Oct/early Nov - rumours of a circuit break around that time so haven't got around to booking - will just have to hope we can do something last minute.

Hormonecrazyhell · 27/09/2020 22:14

No I haven’t. Trying to plan ahead and overpay everything while I can

CornflakeMum · 27/09/2020 22:18

We haven't. Didn't have anything booked. Plan was to do something last minute with DS after A levels, then well, obviously, it didn't seem possible/ like a good idea.

Itisbetter · 27/09/2020 22:20

Nah. I like home. Holidays are far away and hot for me, I’m not bothered otherwise.

doubleshotespresso · 27/09/2020 22:21

We haven't . Just seemed like a ridiculous risk for absolutely no gain.

Thanksitsgotpockets · 27/09/2020 22:22

Nope. Experiences of cafés and restaurants are so hit and miss. Some follow the guidelines well but with minimal disruption and others manage to make it the most miserable experience possible.
Eating out times 5 needs to be really worth it, not a second rate experience with additional risk of being caught up in track and trace.
Many of the places we'd usually stay at have too many restrictions on pool etc use and require timetabling and lack of spontaneity, which isn't conducive to a relaxing holiday.

We've had a recommendation from a friend who feels very much the same as us, so may manage a short break eventually.

LaurieFairyCake · 27/09/2020 22:27

Nope. Going in October half term.

planningaheadtoday · 27/09/2020 22:30

Not been further than 5 mins drive to exercise. Too risky to do much else as I'm highly vulnerable and the stress of being exposed to covid makes my hair fall out.
Shopping delivered. WFH. Not ventured into a shop or public place yet.

I've concentrated on my garden this year and I've really enjoyed it.

Wishing the day to come when we can holiday again.

tobee · 28/09/2020 01:49

No. Dh shielding. Fortunately hadn't booked anywhere so no decisions needed to be made or anything.

Enrico · 28/09/2020 02:12

We don't generally holiday in the UK anyway due to comparative cost/benefit of going abroad, and now this year the cost is even higher and with local lockdowns happening all over the place at short notice potentially lots of hassle also, so, no. Could have done with a break as not been a great year and continues to be stressful as am a key worker woh by public transport half the week, but it is what it is. We have saved money though and I'm using it for driving lessons and hopefully buying a car so at least I can get to work a bit more safely. #lifegoals 🤷

motherofdxughters · 28/09/2020 02:22

We haven't.

Glenthebattleostrich · 28/09/2020 02:38

We went away for 4 nights staying near family. I'm really glad we did otherwise there's a good chance I wouldn't have seen my mum this year.

mxjones · 28/09/2020 03:13

@Flaunch

Haven’t been anywhere. Can’t see the point of going away and not being able to do anything.
We have, lovely short breaks and lots of country walks. We had a better summer than we'd have had otherwise.
lovelemoncurd · 28/09/2020 03:55

We had a couple of nights away in Northumbria to visit my brother but otherwise zilch. We've saved the money and buying a van to self convert to a campervan. It will hopefully be ready for when the world becomes more accessible again.

Monty27 · 28/09/2020 04:12

Yes me. So I have treated myself to plantation shutters for my front room bay window. 👍

Tumbleweed101 · 28/09/2020 07:53

No. My annual leave was in May half term in the middle of lockdown. I do potentially have a break in November so keeping fingers crossed that the restrictions don’t tighten before then.

Have only even been on a couple of day trips this year. Not so much worried about catching it but it’s difficult to be spontaneous right now as places need prebooking and I find it hard with masks as can’t get the misting up problem eradicated so tend to avoid going anywhere that needs them, except for ten mins here and there when I pop into a shop.
