This is what I heard when I turned on the news just a minute ago...by demonstrators in London today...I'm actually really shocked. Do people really think this?? There were A LOT of people at the demonstration...

Gwendolyn, yes it seems all the conflicting governments of different political persuasions have carried on their disputes while competently participating in a global conspiracy. In the UK, there's an amusing contrast between the competence of the conspiracy and arguably incompetence of COVID measures and Brexit.

BoudiccasBoudoir · 26/09/2020 21:29

It's the usual battle between "freedom to" and "freedom from." Do we want freedom to live as normal despite the global pandemic? Or do we want freedom not to die from covid whatever the cost? I think most people are somewhere in the middle. Everybody has a limit. And for the pot addled conspiracy theorists, the shit has obviously hit the fan. They ain't taking no more of this shit.

I mean, I follow the guidelines as best I can, but I'm not sterilising my food shopping. I had to make peace with the idea that I would get covid and what the actual likelihood was and adjust my life accordingly. And if they decide to close the schools again I might lose my shit too because I can't cope with WFH with my kids here indefinitely, the lockdown nearly broke me and I'm hardly catching up with the housework and work work as is. We all have our break point

PermanentMarkerSniffer · 26/09/2020 21:30

I agree - I was being sarcastic. He looks like a shell of a man and I suspect the only reason he hasn't already resigned is because doing so in the middle of a crisis isn't a good look.

CatAndHisKit · 26/09/2020 21:31

I have a friend who died in an accident and was classed as having covid. No tests as far as I'm aware.

Someome entioned a similar thing to me saying that it's smth to do with life insurance - though that was for elderly people dying of other causes, not accidents. Not sure if insurance operates that way, but who knows!

CatAndHisKit · 26/09/2020 21:31

*Someone mentioned, that is!

SurferRona · 26/09/2020 21:31

@Sarahpaula

They had the right to protest.

I think that how the government is handling things is really bad.

My 70 year old mother was not able to access healthcare that she needed.
All of her support groups and her retirement groups have been cancelled.
She has been told to stay at home and isolate for nearly a year now, which is a form of torture. Her mental health is slipping away very badly.

The government need to be held accountable for all the damage that they are doing,

How does it make sense to take care of coronavirus, but to not take care of ALL other aspects of mental and physical well being

How was your mother told to isolate for nearly a year?

Nee naw nee naw is the sound of the hyperbole police

Cornettoninja · 26/09/2020 21:34

He’s just protecting his biography and after dinner speech circuit now. He was desperate for his Churchill moment but clearly that’s not as appealing now he’s had a taste of what circumstances lead to those opportunities.

I can’t call whether he’ll just throw in the towel or stick it out until he can half-respectably bow out. Brexit negotiations might be his last chance to try and claw back some credibility. It’s a shame for us he’s so fond of a high stakes gamble.

SheepandCow · 26/09/2020 21:36

Sorry @PermanentMarkerSniffer
Yes agree. I suspect he's desperate to do a Cameron.

Do we want freedom to live as normal despite the global pandemic?
Australia and New Zealand chose that option.

Sarahpaula · 26/09/2020 21:38

@SurferRona because she has been told to isolate for eight months now

She is in the republic of Ireland. I visited her two weeks ago , and she is still being told to shield and stay at home as she is over 70. All of her support groups, and all of her retirement groups are still cancelled now, and have been for eight months, because they don't want the elderly mixing with each other.

ZoeCM · 26/09/2020 21:38

I once had a conversation with a creationist who believed that everyone who works in science - up to and including high school biology teachers - is part of a global conspiracy to discredit God. Apparently they all secretly know the evidence makes it clear that the earth was created in six days six thousand years ago, but none of them want the world to realise that the Bible is true, so they all dedicate their lives to covering up the evidence. And not a single scientist has EVER broken rank and exposed this conspiracy.

I also know someone who smoked during pregnancy and insists that it's perfectly safe, all the doctors and scientists are just lying because they want to guilt-trip mothers Confused

Bollss · 26/09/2020 21:39

Sorry *@PermanentMarkerSniffer* Yes agree. I suspect he's desperate to do a Cameron.

Australia and New Zealand chose that option.

Aren't people being forcibly quarantined in New Zealand when they test positive? And, not so long ago a tower block was it in Australia was being guarded by police to stop anyone entering and leaving. That doesn't sound very normal to me!
Sarahpaula · 26/09/2020 21:39

@somewhereovertherainbutt control? To see how much they can control the masses

Sarahpaula · 26/09/2020 21:40

I still have bad memories about patrols of police roaming around Ireland a couple of months ago, shouting at people in parks

1questionshootout · 26/09/2020 21:40

Australia and New Zealand had really strenuous lockdowns, some parts are still ongoing!

Orangeblossom7777 · 26/09/2020 21:42

Care home deaths are being recorded as Covid-19 related even if the victim has not had a positive test or shown any symptoms, it has emerged.

After weeks of widespread concern about the under reporting of coronavirus deaths in the social care sector, there are now fears that GPs are under pressure to link all naturally occurring fatalities to the pandemic.

Relatives who have lost vulnerable loved ones recently have expressed unease at the inclusion of “suspected coronavirus” on the death certificates, when there was no evidence of the disease.

www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2020/05/01/care-homes/

this was well publicised. Surprised it is under debate

raddledoldmisanthropist · 26/09/2020 21:42

They are supporters of the Magna Carta.

So they support the divine right of kinds, but want to limit the fees payable on estate inheritance, institute and advisory council of Barons and reduce the size of the royal forests?

Each to their own, I suppose.

Concerned7777 · 26/09/2020 21:45

@CuppaZa

The stupidest in society were at this protest today. Dangerous fuckers, the lot of them
Only the stupidest of society protests about anything at all during a pandemic.....end of!
CatAndHisKit · 26/09/2020 21:45

New Zealand had completely shut its borders, hardly freedom! (not sure if they can travel now or not).

Roowig2020 · 26/09/2020 21:45

@Unsure33
@alreadytaken

Shows the inconsistency within the system. Believe what you want to believe. It was widely reported that Matt Hancock has asked for a PHE review due to over exaggeration.

This was after all the 'anecdotal' reports I'd personally heard from colleagues within the nhs who have no reason to lie.

The doctors are all being paid to say the diagnosis is covid - it doesn't exist
raddledoldmisanthropist · 26/09/2020 21:46

Not so long ago you had to believe the earth was flat and the royal family were secretly reptiles to earn the title conspiracy theorist but these days it seems that if you question anything at all to do with covid and the handling of it then you are dismissed as a conspiracy theorist.

David Icke does literally believe the royal family are lizard people. I imagine that is one of reasons that people attending the rally are being compared with such views.

Bollss · 26/09/2020 21:47

Only the stupidest of society protests about anything at all during a pandemic.....end of!

Really? So all the people protesting for blm are stupid too then are they?

Sarahpaula · 26/09/2020 21:47

I don't know why some people think that all the governments of the world are seperate, either.

All of the Governments are connected. They make decisions together. As was proven in Coronavirus.

raddledoldmisanthropist · 26/09/2020 21:49

Yes. Those figures were corrected for and removed from the numbers counted so far. We've made several retrospective alterations to the esitimates, as have most countries.

Those overestimates pale next to the numbers we missed early on due to lack of testing. You can tell this by analysing the early excess death figures.

SheepandCow · 26/09/2020 21:50

@TrustTheGeneGenie
A pandemic isn't normal circumstances full stop.

You think people should be able to do whatever they want consequences be damned? You want all laws abolished? Anarchy?

A very small minority of people are quarantined - because they've hardly any cases, and small outbreaks are swiftly dealt with. Almost everyone is willing to do it. The extremely tiny number who don't want to abide by the sensible economy and life protecting rules can be made to. Just as people are 'forcibly' locked up in a police cell if they drink drive or commit any other dangerous crime.

The vast majority of Australians and Kiwis strongly support their preventative measures.

Life is a lot closer to normal in Australia and New Zealand. Schools, offices, restaurants, pubs all open. Cancer and mental health appointments running normally too.

BarbarAnna · 26/09/2020 21:51

So all the governments of the world are connected together... ok.

So they are making decisions together... ok.

To achieve what?
