Will you be getting the track and trace app? If not, why not?

I've downloaded it. The only info I had to give was the first half of my postcode. I'm happy to use it, I have nothing to hide! However, I know there will be people who are unhappy to use it. If you are one of them, please tell me why. Is it a civil liberties issue?

according to Will Guyatt on LBC
( twitter.com/willguyatt?lang=en )
the app is crap, a joke, mickey mouse app that's not fit for purpose
just like the gvt

and thank you daisychain01
kind of you to take the time to explain the difference between Zoe and the NHS app

islockdownoveryet · 26/09/2020 17:18

You don't need to download the app to do track and trace you can do track and trace with you camera on your phone it works the same way .
But it's handy to use ,
The app doesn't know where you are only if you track and traced then you can turn it off in fact I'm doing that as I think it's draining my battery .
Tbh those saying they don't like the idea or have this conspiracy the government is tracking our every move , we have gps on your phone anyway so if the government wanted to track us and I doubt they do they can anyway . Hmm

islockdownoveryet · 26/09/2020 17:22

It's voluntary to download the app but you must provide track and trace details so if you have a old phone or don't want to then you have to give name and number so you may as well downloaded the app if you can .
Also if you don't like it a bit like masks don't go out , unlike the whole masks debate where people are exempt , I doubt there is no medical reason someone can't download a app Hmm.

Itsokthanks · 26/09/2020 17:22

I downloaded it but as it requires you to have location and Bluetooth on all the time which drain my battery it's pointless so deleted it.

amymel2016 · 26/09/2020 17:25

I’ve got it and have encouraged all my family to do the same

Deciding whether or not to download an app that doesn't appear to be fit for purpose is nothing like the mask debate! I'm happy to give my details when I go somewhere but I don't want the app at least until I know it actually works (which will probably mean I never have it) so what's the problem with that?

@Heffalooomia

and thank you daisychain01 kind of you to take the time to explain the difference between Zoe and the NHS app
My pleasure! The Zoe App is really worth doing because they actually use all the data dynamically and report back on the app any new discoveries. Today there is a list of different symptoms, according to offering age spans, and one new discovery is that high temperature isn't reported as being a prominent symptom, in about half of the data they've collected. So the temperature 'gun' to test for elevated temperature isn't always relevant. It's a sneaky little devil, coronavirus!

I'm sitting here with my head in my hands listening to a radio discussion on LBC about some of the deficiencies in the NHS App. They do need to fix it so people can use it for the purpose it was designed.

I will still try using it for a while and see how it goes, any data they collect is better than no data and if it saves a life it's worth it. I live in hope!

daisychain01 · 26/09/2020 17:51

Offering = different

MiddlesexGirl · 26/09/2020 17:58

I've downloaded it.
Nice easy to use app.
Doesn't seem to be draining battery significantly as left the tracing function on overnight and no obvious difference in battery drainage.
The app links to further info on gov.uk and is very clear that location details are not used in any way than to track proximity to other users and that personal details are not collected in any way.

Yes, it's reported to have some bugs which is surprisingly common with new apps. But the more people use it the better and I shall certainly be doing all I can to help reduce the spread of and hopefully eventually eliminate coronavirus.

islockdownoveryet · 26/09/2020 18:00

Not at all @PinkSparklyPussyCat I said in my post you don't need to download the app .
You do have to give your details though for track and trace so be it by app or by pen and paper it's the same thing . The app is to make it's easier for everyone but entirely your choice .

Splodgetastic · 26/09/2020 18:01

What a surprise. As soon as Sercroney and Crapita get involved in anything.

Bagadverts · 26/09/2020 18:05

If I have the app can I just turn on Bluetooth when I go out or does it always have to be on for it to work? (I’m not out very often)

Baaaahhhhh · 26/09/2020 18:07

I think it's really interesting psychology to say:

"I am willing to give me details to a restaurant/shop etc" details which will be passed on to the "government" if there is a positive case.

Versus:

"I am not willing to download this app due to government tracking" when the government doesn't get any personal information from the app at all.

Makes no sense.......

Sertchgi123 · 26/09/2020 18:08

Got it.

NHS Covid-19: App users unable to input negative tests

People in England who test negative for Covid-19 are unable to share the result with the new NHS app for England and Wales if they did not book the test through it in the first place.

The app asks for a code to register a test result but a code is only received if the test is positive.

Those who enter that they have symptoms without entering a result find a self-isolation countdown begins.

There are also some positive results which cannot be uploaded.

Wow. Just wow.

The "I've nothing to hide" argument always falls done on the assumption that the data on you is correct.

This app has failed immediately on this score.

This 'bug' in the system means that people trying to do the right thing, and testing negative could find themselves put 'into isolation' by the app. So barred from accessing things through no fault of their own.

They also could trigger a bunch of 'false positive' results for people who end up pinging them.

Just to point out that in most places over 90% of tests results come back negative, so if you enter you have symptoms but can't enter you have tested negative, this is a little bit of an issue.

It makes the whole system completely unusable and likely to cause problems and undermine trust in the system which it should be because if the app is doing this, its not just got 'a few teething issues that all new apps get', its an app which hasn't been properly tested and any good developer will tell you, that if they released an app this fundamentally flawed to their customers, they'd be lucky to keep their job!

Heffalooomia · 26/09/2020 18:34

why did the gvt release the app, surely they knew this, is confusion and distrust helpful to their agenda?

Baaaahhhhh · 26/09/2020 18:41

But RedToothBrush the whole point is regardless of whether you get a negative test or not, you still have to isolate for the 14 days. Getting a test is not a get out of jail card.

I agree, the app is not as flexible/detailed as we would wish it to be, and is not linked to any NHS services, the original one was, but that was deemed too intrusive. We got what we asked for.

Quite.
Snog · 26/09/2020 18:45

No. I don't trust the government not to gather information about me and then to use it against my interests or without my permission.

Figgygal · 26/09/2020 18:45

If anyone think thats its feasible to still isolate for 14 days after testing negative they are on glue.

All you would end up doing is increasing non-compliance rates for situations where it is appropriate to isolate, because there is such a break down in faith in the system being effective and workable in the real world.

Afterall all these laws and restrictions are only viable if there is sufficient public support for them. If it gets to a point where the public collectively sticks their finger up to them, then the whole thing collapses. Tbh I fear we are already more perilously close to that point than many people realise.
