Are you cleaning Shopping?

As the title says are you cleaning shopping from the supermarket?

I've been going over shopping with an antibacterial wipe but some of my friends don't bother and was wondering what everyone else is doing?

OP posts:

No

grey12 · 24/09/2020 18:02

We wash our fruit in water with white vinegar. 2 small kids have full access to fruit bowl and can't really be relied upon to wash every piece very well.

My mum used to put the groceries in quarantine for a few days Grin but then she has the space for that

lljkk · 24/09/2020 18:05

No, never did. Life is too short to pretend I can control tiny risks.

RegularHumanBartender · 24/09/2020 18:07

Absolutely not, no!!

Jourdain11 · 24/09/2020 18:08

Oh my God, remember the people washing their eggs in bleach? And quarantining shopping in a spare room for 72 hours!

I started another thread on the broader subject of "hygiene theatre" A heresy to some MNetters but seemingly wise words nevertheless in this article from The Atlantic. I did back in March.....

"..........Instead, many of these establishments are boasting about their cleaning practices while inviting strangers into unventilated indoor spaces to share one another’s microbial exhalations. This logic is warped. It completely misrepresents the nature of an airborne threat. It’s as if an oceanside town stalked by a frenzy of ravenous sharks urged people to return to the beach by saying, We care about your health and safety, so we’ve reinforced the boardwalk with concrete. Lovely. Now people can sturdily walk into the ocean and be separated from their limbs.

By funneling our anxieties into empty cleaning rituals, we lose focus on the more common modes of COVID-19 transmission and the most crucial policies to stop this plague. “My point is not to relax, but rather to focus on what matters and what works,” Goldman said. “Masks, social distancing, and moving activities outdoors. That’s it. That’s how we protect ourselves. That’s how we beat this thing.”

Yes.

Get delivery, wipe with Miltons, use it afterwards to wipe bins as it’s bin day, and then pour down loo so 3 in 1 usage.

WhiteChocTwix · 24/09/2020 18:30

I put all the food shopping bags in the garage when I get home. Give the fridge and freezer stuff a quick wipe over with washing up liquid and hot water and put it away. The rest of it I just put away when I can be bothered after a day or two.

cologne4711 · 24/09/2020 18:31

No, there is zero point. And all you're doing is breeding antibiotic resistance.

People need to stop it.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 24/09/2020 18:35

Nope, haven't washed, wiped or quarantined anything and certainly won't be starting now.

QuantamBaby · 24/09/2020 18:35

Nope - that way madness lies....

Justmuddlingalong · 24/09/2020 18:35

Nope. I just wash my hands when I get home from the supermarket/butcher's and again after unloading and putting it away.

Bernardstolemywatch · 24/09/2020 18:40

No, never did. I simply can’t be bothered.

I used to but stopped when I read this. New evidence is coming out all the time.

That's pretty much what we do. I understand the risk is low, but I'd rather be safe than sorry.

In what way is it breeding antibiotic resistance?
Batshitbeautycosmeticsltd · 24/09/2020 18:45

Never have and never will.

HowFastIsTooFast · 24/09/2020 18:55

Never have and unlikely I ever will.

PinkPiranha11 · 24/09/2020 18:59

Oh FGS not this again. The Loons ate back...

Tangledtresses · 24/09/2020 19:00

Didn't do it in height of corona or wear a mask! So not going to do it now 😀

Deux · 24/09/2020 19:01

No and never. The effort involved is disproportionate to the the threat.

I realise it gives people a sense of control though.

AlwaysLatte · 24/09/2020 19:03

Yes, and the colour of the water afterwards means I'll always do it now!

Browneyesbigbum · 24/09/2020 19:04

How silly and a waste of precious time...some people appear to have little to do

Itsabeautifuldayheyhey · 24/09/2020 19:08

No. I never have done but I don't ridicule anyone else who feels more comfortable doing it.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 24/09/2020 19:21

No. I never did it anyway but the advice now is that it's not necessary, the virus is airborne so mask wearing is the best thing you can do.
