I can't see the issue here either, she's a new mum, born in a pandemic, she nealry lost its dad whilst pregnant, she had covid herself, I imagine she needs a break... I'm no fan either but I don't see what she's done wrong.

notimagain · 24/09/2020 17:47

Of course it's a lovely place. But when you are the partner of the person who broadcast to the nation two days ago to tell the public there were sacrifices to be made, and that people are going to lose their jobs and their lives and that we must all pull together it's a bit rich to see yet another of his inner circle buggering off on a foreign holiday.

Well one thing is for sure, lots more people in the travel industry will be losing their jobs if people get hounded out of going on perfectly legit, legal and allowable foreign holidays.

Yetiyoga · 24/09/2020 17:54

@deflationexasperation she is not social distancing from her friends. It is fine though- I guess it means i can hug mine now too!

Mumratheevergiving · 24/09/2020 17:56

@notimagain I hardly think Mr & Mrs Smith from Swindon's holidays are going to make the papers! It's the fact that it's Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson's partner, the man who instructed the public to rein ourselves in just 2 days ago.

ZarasHouse · 24/09/2020 18:00

@redolent

I didn't know babies legs had buttons. Seems it's me who's been doing it wrong. Would make nappy changes easier

Unsure33 · 24/09/2020 18:08

She has had covid and she is not breaking the law .

notimagain · 24/09/2020 18:10

I read it as rein in= stick to the rules.

Travel (either domestically or internationally) is not banned.
Travel to/from Italy is not banned.
The rule of 6 doesn't apply on any form of transport...

I have no time for Mr Johnson or any of his fellow travellers but I do think it's unfair that some people here are giving his gf a heck of a lot of the stick simply because she is doing what other Brits are continuing to do..

It would also help debate if some people actually read the relevant rules in full and tried to understand them before acting as judge and jury. executioner.

Yetiyoga · 24/09/2020 18:10

@Unsure33 is it law to social distance or just guidance? Genuinely interested.

StarCat2020 · 24/09/2020 18:14

And are the laws and / or guidance the same in Italy as they are in the UK?

shinynewapple2020 · 24/09/2020 18:15

But cases in Italy are lower than in UK

Friendsoftheearth · 24/09/2020 18:19

I would have a problem with this if it had not been for that hideous camping holiday she endured in the middle of Scotland, that was cut short because the farmer was so aggressive. Sodden, exhausted and stuck in No10 day in and day out, I really can't blame her!! I am not sure I would bother to come back, the pressure she has been under has been immense. I hope she has a lovely time, and comes back rested.

Yetiyoga · 24/09/2020 18:20

@StarCat2020 but with that surely if you are from the UK you would still need to follow social distancing rules?

TheSeedsOfADream · 24/09/2020 18:21

No. No rules of random numbers but she'll have to wear a mask between the hours of 6pm and 6am where SD isn't possible.
TheSeedsOfADream · 24/09/2020 18:22

That's pretty much the only rules there are in Italy.

TheFairyCaravan · 24/09/2020 18:27

I loathe Boris Johnson however I can't get worked up about this. We came back from Kos last night. We had a wonderful 12 days where we felt really safe and very relaxed. It was much better than here. If it wasn't for the fact I'm waiting for 3 hospital procedures and DH is busy at work we'd book again for a couple of weeks time.

We've followed all the rules to the letter. Going on holiday was still with the rules.

StarCat2020 · 24/09/2020 18:36

I sound like I am being awkward but it all depends on the laws or guidance where you are, I suppose.

Like other posters have posted in Italy rules are different to the UK.

Luckily as I have zero chance of going on holiday any time, I won't have to make this decision. (Lucky me)

megletthesecond · 24/09/2020 18:41

yy @starcat2020 I'm trying to recall the details in an old popbitch article about how to read between the lines on apparently dull tabloid articles.

Mumratheevergiving · 24/09/2020 18:45

Carrie was the head of communications for the Tory party she is well aware what will be written about this jaunt but blatantly doesn't give a fig!

Of course it is within the law to travel but not yet 48hrs ago her partner was televised with his message to suck up the winter of doom (life losses & job losses) as she was packing her cossie & swanning off to a £600 a night hotel. Not really the spirit of 'we're all in this together'.

tenlittlecygnets · 24/09/2020 18:47

She and Boris are both crap at baby wearing. Looks like poor Wilf's head is going to fall off in one photo.

Yetiyoga · 24/09/2020 18:51

@StarCat2020 no you arent being awkward at all, don't worry! Just trying to get my head around it. I find the rules all confusing!

MandosHatHair · 24/09/2020 18:56

She’s got the bugaboo wheels on backwards - the big ones are at the front. Makes steering very difficult

I thought pushing it that way makes it easier to go over sandy beaches?

If I was her I would want a holiday away from Boris too (but then I wouldn't be daft enough to sleep with Boris in the first place)

OpenlyGayExOlympicFencer · 24/09/2020 18:57

I've found myself feeling quite sorry for her recently. People will say she knew what she was signing up for, and that's true of the press attention and the cheating/inaccurate cheating rumours. But the other stuff, no. It must have been very hard knowing your partner couldn't be arsed prioritising your safety in a pandemic enough to social distance. I'd find that very hard to forgive. And having covid whilst so heavily pregnant too.
MsTSwift · 24/09/2020 19:01

I agree. If you go camping in Scotland with a 4 month old baby you have earned yourself a trip to sodding Italy.

Mumratheevergiving · 24/09/2020 19:11

Oh yes the ‘camping trip’ with a cottage attached.

emptyshelvesagain · 24/09/2020 19:30

@enyemaka

I’m a teacher and if I went away in the October half term, and then needed to quarantine, I wouldn’t be paid.

But if you went to Italy you wouldn't have to quarantine Confused
